I SENT THIS E-MAIL TO MY YA-YA'S ON MY 'TRUE FRIENDS' LIST .. along with the photos .. here's the 'story' but without the pictures .. don't have time to upload right now. xoxoxoxo

we had a fabulously fun COW DAYS festival in Green County, Kentucky this Friday and Saturday.

We had zillions of people attend ... tons of 'booths' filled with treasures to spend your pennies on.
It was wonderful to meet so many former green countians (especially loved meeting a couple members of the very first jewish family to live in green county and hearing their stories). (She is going to stop by our cabins today and share more!) Sooo .. i can't tally long on this machine .. but wanted to tell you what fun we all had!

There were so many fun 'games' ... and 'events'!!! And a PARADE ... Hank and I adored how wholesome the crowd was! And for what was 'tobacco country' .. i only saw THREE people smoking out of about a MILLION that were smoking! (and two of those were at night when we had great MUSIC ... a big crowd all brought their lawn chairs and we gathered around the bandstand in front of our historic courthouse to listen to wonderful musicians (one shot johnny always being our favorite) .. a TALENT show .. and this county has some GREAT talent! and the Wichita Band!)

In the afternoon, I took a little break and ran down to get a hug from sweet Cathy Cobblestone .. and got some cornstalks, mums, and other goodies to decorate 'autumn' here at Freedom Valley! OH ... and i got two of the most adorable APRONS at her shoppe made by friend Ada Mae Handy!!! (i'll take pics of those and post them soon!) ONE had COWS on the pocket .. i wore that for the rest of the afternoon .. WITH ada mae's tag hanging off of it ... AND a CROW tied in my hair! ohhhhh .. i wish i'd thought to have someone take a picture!!! (i looked a little like Minnie Pearl!) WHAT FUN i had!

Saturday morning ... honey-hunk and i arrived early cuz' he wanted to run the 'town race' ... (pictures below) ... afterwards, we walked across our historic foot bridge to the olde train depot for a DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELICIOUS ham breakfast!
Was wonderful sitting and talking with lots of our kentucky friends!

OH! OH! OH! and i jus' gotta' tell you about the absolute CUTEST 'snack meal' i've EVER had! We wandered up to the HOLY CALFE at the Baptist Church .. one of the teen age girls told them about this .. i will be serving these next time i want to serve 'tacos'!!

o.k. .. here's how it goes:

you get some of those small $1.00 size bags of FRITOS (my personal fav!)

you turn it SIDEWAYS .. and slit along the edge of one of the long SIDES!

NOW you have a foil frito 'pocket' full of fritos!

take a small handfull out (for the topping!)

NOW . with the remaining fritos in the bag .. fill it with your favorite 'taco' things .. hamburger/lettuce/tomato/onions/jalapenos/taco seasonings/sauce .. then scatter the 'set-aside' remaining fritos on top .. and a dollop of SOUR CREAM .. and you have a 'taco in a sack' .. it was ADORABLE! and DELICIOUS!

(of course, you can set aside onions/halapenos for people to put in themselves .. OR leave out too!)

i must have had 8 glasses of lemonade WITHOUT any sugar or sweetner .. it was grande just like it plain! (AND the lack of sweet kept the million BEES away too!)

we had maybe 20 some food venders with all manner of wonderful choices!

i especially enjoyed hanging out in the Arts Council Booth with the gurlfrenz meeting and greeting people as they came in and out of the Olde Courthouse. OH .. i only bought two things .. one was an absolutely WONDERFUL necklace with stones (turquoise and others) and a hand-cut silver FEATHER (my totem!) made by dear friend Mary Lou Lingle! AND .. the garden club was selling prints of Mary Lou and Bill's historic home! I got one of those too! I love collecting Green County memorabilia!

OHHHHHH .. i did get some yummy almost-good enough to eat CANDLES from dear friend RITA too! AND .. oh yes! i got EIGHT antique COW BELLS from our very own Glovers' Station Antiques Mall .. which did a BOOMING business yesterday too!

O.K. i gotta' get off 'la machine' .. have coffee in our tree house with my man .. unload the truck of all the Cobblestone goodies .. put them here and there .. and try to rustle up a snack for the ladies coming to visit today.

Below are a few photos i took .. enjoy them. AND gurlfrenz .. plan to come here NEXT year for COW DAYS .. i'll take you there!

xoxo, frannie

p.s. i'll tell you the story of how 'cow days' came to be in green county in my next e-mail!

SATURDAY MORNING:
the 'race' crowd begins to form at the starting line!

uhhhh .. GENERAL .. can i have a 'time out'??

MACHO MAN!!!

they are OFF and UP the hill!

middle school principal came in a good 5 to 10 minutes
before ANYONE else!

honey man is PUMPIN' it out with a 20-something
headed for the finish line!

FIRST PLACE .. in the LEAD Division (over 65!)

a highlight of COW DAYS is when the kids get to 'milk' an 'almost' real cow!
they used to bring a REAL one ... crowds have gotten waaaay tooo big these days!

the ladies in the background are receiving 'awards' for the
APPLE PEELING CONTEST!

cow calling contest. NOW .. i could only WONDER if this young lady
in curlers didn't have a 'cotillion ball' or 'queen's coronation' to attend
later that evening that she would come out and 'announce' the winners
in her 'up-do'!!! lordy! i didn't know ANYONE wore these anymore!

I JUST LOVED THIS LITTLE GUY'S 'CATTLE CALL'!!!

beautiful! beautiful! baby boy! this is friend Nan's precious grandson!!

well, kiddo's .. those were the only times i pulled out my camera .. was jus' so busy having fun that i didn't often even reach for my camera!

COW DAYS ... last night during the bands playing .. we were sitting next to the owner of our local newspaper .. i knew that if ANYONE knew .. WALT would know .. HOW COW DAYS CAME TO BE!

he did! he said that 36 years ago, our local judge wanted to do something for our merchants, citizens, farmers ... sooo .. he instituted one day a year .. when a COW would be awarded to someone. they simply had to come to town and purchase something from one of our merchants. for EVERY purchase made, they received a ticket to win the cow .. it helped the merchants .. brought business to town (which, of course, included the farmers) and made us more aware of how important farming was to our community.

that tradition continued every year after that .. slowly but surely .. expanding and getting bigger and bigger and became quite a 'town event'.

Ok Frannie....I feel better! I lovve Frannieville. and Oh how snazzy is that denim apron. I have a CUTE pair of boots that would match. I might have to whip me one of them up. I have some pink hankie material--maybe wiht black jeans and some rhinestones?!?! It is so muggy out too. last night DH took me star gazing, and we were down by our pond, and to be honest though, it was a bit nippy. some cider would have made it nice and cozy!

btw...how are you feeling?

Frannie you and I have talked mainly via email. I am so glad that you have so many supporters. Geez I wish I had gotten on here a few days ago. I would have LOVED to have taken the boys out to Green County for all the fun. Did you guys get any of that wind that blew through Louisville last Sunday? We have friends who are 8 days without power! Kids were out of school for a week (and soooooo sad about it too--HA!).
You have been in my thoughts a lot today and here you have established your own little cyber-town. I love to here about Cabin Creek. The pictures are wonderful!!! It looks like you have your own little village there. The fall decor is perfect.

We have to meet in Bardstown sometime for lunch and junk/antique shopping. I never seem to get out there although it is just the cutest town.

You are in my prayers brave lady!

When I was growing up in Oklahoma they would have a "Rattlesnake Roundup" every year. People would go catch them and then they would cook them and have a barbeque. Yes I am serious. I never went. Sounded too gross in so many ways.

finally picked up a copy of the latest MJ magazine at our local Tractor Supply store last evening jus' before we went to the movies (Lakeview something or other .. starring Samuel L. Jackson .. a bit of a thriller .. but surely NOT an academy award winner). From the 'previews' of upcoming shows .. there sure is a lot of 'scary-stupid' movies going to be released soon. i much prefer uplifting stories, comedies and sweet love stories!

when we got home .. i skimmed cover to cover .. stopping to read word for word ... DIGGING IN MY HEELS by Rebekah Teal from Georgia. Hers is ALWAYS the first article i run to ... she is such a delight .. i LOVE her style! And her 'high-heel' style was a fun, fun read!

I can soooooooo relate to all Rebekah writes. She is such a charming combination of what i see in MaryJane .. both country and city girl heart and style. I love the way MaryJane dresses (don't 'cha adore her 'ironing outfit' on page 8 of this issue!)

now i must admit that while living in the mountains in colorado .. i did indeed discover (and LOVE) 'berkies' (birkenstock shoes) ... and being from the 'nawth' .. i loved the sophisticated style of dressing for work and parties (love the suit mj wears on page 4 ) ...

and i created some of my own 'fun' ways of dressing that i have kept to this day! (more of a GYPSY look!) my personal fav for fun .. (summer or winter) .. is Berkies or Tivas with colorful socks and contrasting LEG WARMERS .. worn under rolled-up jeans or calf-length skirts! And YES .. you will find these on my feet in the depths of winter (as long as there is no snow on the ground) when it snows .. i simply trade my heavy sandals for BOOTS .. the Construction Kind being my favs .. you know those mellow-gold or brown ones that lace up the front and are called 'high-toppers'!

i did give up my 'spikey' high heels when i got 'the sugar' .. they just were no longer comfy on my feet .. but i surely do understand what Rebekah is telling us about 'feeling FINE' when wearing them!

I was so pleased to hear that she dances in her stiletto's to the beat of a different sax player and doesn't feel a traitor to 'womanhood' by wearing them. ohhhh .. my dear .. it is JUST the opposite. It is grande to feel FEMALE!

i especially giggled through her article .. as i can see ALREADY ... our own little rebel chile with a feminine spirit .. two year old sofia .. who adores a shoe that has a heel and 'sparkles'. (note .. she is as happy with ONE as she is with TWO!)

wanted to share a few of sofia's STYLES ...

not yet two .. and having just learned to take off on a run .. sofia has her own 'panache' .. with her leg warmers and hat!

here she tries the 'mountain look' .. as her brother laid his shoes carelessly about!

upon inspection .. these simply did not have ENOUGH sparkle and shine!

now THESE are more like it .. but i do believe she is in search of a purse with more 'fripperies' on it!

it feels gooooooooooood to be a princess .. even when preparing a bed-time snack!

p.s. have you noticed she LOVES that 'binky'!!!! that and her 'blankee' .. both glamerous accessories with her 'high heels'!

i saw a pacifier the other day and 'almost' got it for her .. but she is being slowly 'weaned' away from it .. AND .. it cost $28.!!!!!!! it had a 'diamond' crown on it and said: BLING

(i may have to get it for little iszabel though .. because she constantly has her chubby little fists in her mouth .. and we are quite sure she is going to be a big fan of the 'binky' too!)

sofia does not pass iszabel by without giving her a gentle 'pat' .. leans over and gives her a kiss (ONLY after stealthily removing the binky from iszabel's mouth .... you WILL notice that binky in sofia's mouth as she quickly skips away!)

very dear early dolly and clothing sewing kit

how sweet is this .. someone filled out a coupla' lines .. and then just STOPPED!
i do hope it was not a 'sad story'

another pretty dolly and cute dolly 3-D picture!

embroidered linen .. MOTHER book .. cute little dolly picture frame
and .. well .. the dolly having tea with her momma .. that one i'm gonna' KEEP.

everything else is up for adoption!

not sure how i'm going to do it .. will take some to glovers station .. will gather some of the treasures (along with others) and make up little 'treasure packs' of somewhat 'like things' .. for a 'one price' dealie thingie!

and in another BOX .. OH MY!

=============

i also found a big bag of last year's dried herbs ... they are VERY dry and brittle and still smell WONDERFUL!!!
i'm going to use them as
'fire starters' for our campground!!

I want to swan dive into the schoolhouse and just dig through your treasures! I love finding goodies like that. And in that lovely schoolhouse as well.
