good morning ... i got this e-mail from a friend this morning and wanted to share it ...

September 28th, 2008
From legendary oilman and billionaire T. Boone Pickens:

"America is in a hole and it's getting deeper every day. We import 70% of our oil at a cost of $700 billion a year - four times the annual cost of the Iraq war."

"I've been an oil man all my life, but this is one emergency we can't drill our way out of. But if we create a new renewable energy network, we can break our addiction to foreign oil."

So, what is one of the world's richest oil men doing about it?

The "Oracle of Oil" has unleashed a $58 million public relations blitz focused on persuading Americans to reduce their dependence on foreign oil by turning increasingly to natural gas and wind.

Called The Pickens Plan, the project calls for an estimated $1 trillion government investment... to displace electricity currently produced with natural gas with clean wind power.

Meantime, he's pouring billions of his own money into each of those profitable sectors. In fact, he's spending $12 billion on what could prove to be the world's biggest wind farm--in Texas.

Another of his ventures, Clean Energy Fuels, is the foremost company in one of the world's fastest-rising industries: building and operating natural gas fueling stations for vehicles.

But that's just the beginning of the story behind wind and natural gas.

With over 50 countries now installing wind turbines, investment in wind energy climbed to $50.2 billion last year. And hundreds of corporate and governmental fleets are converting to vehicles that run on natural gas.

++++++++++++++++++++
I DON'T KNOW A LOT ABOUT THIS .. but watched a short film clip and i sure do love the idea of WIND ENERGY!
*********************

if you want to see the video .. jus' e-mail me .. and i'll send it to you via e-mail. xo

i know that neither halloween or thanksgiving have arrived yet .. but WINTER .. she is indeed on her way. what ways have you heard of (or done yourself) to help those who might feel the chill?

when i worked in Washington, D.C. .. we had many parks .. some were visited quite often by homeless people. (incuding the one right across the street from the White House!) i would often take an extra winter coat, jacket, scarf and gloves .. and an extra LUNCH .. go to the park and have my lunch .. and LEAVE the winter woolies and extra lunch on the bench with a note telling the 'finder' that this was a gift and that i wished them a warm holiday season.

would love to hear YOUR ideas too! xo

another one ... at holiday time .. i would create a 'mitten' tree .. and ask all employees to please leave mittens on it and under it .. and i would deliver them to a children's shelter.

GOOD MORNING SUNSHINES!!!

READ THIS

LET IT REALLY SINK IN - THEN CHOOSE

John is the kind of guy you love to hate. He is always in a good mood and always has something positive to say. When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would reply, 'If I were any better, I would be twins!'

He was a natural motivator

If an employee was having a bad day, John was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.

Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up and asked him, 'I don't get it

You can't be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?'

He replied, 'Each morning I wake up and say to myself, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or ... you can choose to be in a bad mood

I choose to be in a good mood.'

Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or...I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it.

Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or... I can point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life

'Yeah, right, it's not that easy,' I protested.

'Yes, it is,' he said. 'Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people affect your mood.

You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It's your choice how you live your life.'

I reflected on what he said. Soon hereafter, I left the Tower Industry to start my own business. We lost touch, but I often thought about him when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it.

Several years later, I heard that he was involved in a serious accident, falling some 60 feet from a communications tower.

After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, he was released from the hospital with rods placed in his back.

I saw him about six months after the accident.

When I asked him how he was, he replied, 'If I were any better, I'd be twins...Wanna see my scars

I declined to see his wounds, but I did ask him what had gone through his mind as the accident took place.

'The first thing that went through my mind was the well-being of my soon-to-be born daughter,' he replied. 'Then, as I lay on the ground, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live or...I could choose to die. I chose to live.'

'Weren't you scared? Did you lose consciousness?' I asked

He continued, '..the paramedics were great

They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the ER and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read 'he's a dead man'. I knew I needed to take action.'

'What did you do?' I ask

'Well, there was a big burly nurse shouting questions at me,' said John. 'She asked if I was allergic to anything 'Yes', I replied. The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled, 'Gravity'.

Over their laughter, I told them, 'I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead.'

He lived, thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude... I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully.

Attitude, after all, is everything.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.' Matthew 6:34.

After all today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.

You have two choices now:

1. Delete this

2. Forward it to the people you care about.

You know the choice I made.

oh ya-ya's .. i had left candles burning in the tree house .. soooo .. i got my flashlight and ambled down the path .. it is wonderfully and softly illuminated with candles down there. my 'boom box' was still there .. sooo .. i turned it on .. snuggled on a cot .. and listened to soft music ... THEN .. the 'coyotes' began singing along! didn't really scare me at all .. they stay deep in the woods ... (and quite honestly, it might have just been an OWL!) .. the night is gorgeous .. and if i didn't have some things to do this evening and be up early for ART CLASS in town tomorrow morning ... i'd have probably just stayed down there! (honey-man was up here reading a book!) i know we are going to have many delightful nights in the TREE HOUSE!

tomorrow .. we get two new 'potties' installed! gosh! we've done just about everything to our farm that we want to do now that the treehouse is built! always new gardens to grow! and of course, i have to CLEAR OUT that schoolhouse to make a 'bunkhouse' for visiting friends! (we'll look into putting running water and a bathroom in there too). but mostly, we're very satisified with all the changes we have made!

oh gurlz .. if you are coming to the 'gurlfren gathering' .. be sure to pack a FLASHLIGHT in your bag!

picked up a couple more gurlz coming to our gathering ... i'm thinking the treehouse will fit EIGHT comfy .. ten snuggly! ... BRING A TENT if you wish! the screened porch can sleep probably 6 or so (we cleared all the furniture off of it for your visit!) the maryland girls got the 'beds' inside long time ago .. a few are staying at the cabins in town .. we can shove the big table aside on the back porch .. and probably snuggle down about six or eight more there! sooooo .. i think everyone will have a little 'spot' to call their own! i am soooo looking forward to seeing olde friends and meeting new friends. xoxo

love all the pics Frannie! I was wondering if you ever read the book 40 Acres and No Mule by Janice Holt Giles? If not, it is a must read. She tells of her life in Knifely, Kentucky (Taylor county near Campbellsville) after she moved their with her husband (he was from there). Very interesting look at Kentuckians! The library probably has it. If not here is the link to Amazon.

Chris .. i do believe i own and have read every one of her books! She is absolutely my mos' FAV kentucky author! Lots of the people i know in town KNEW her! They were younger than her .. but tell some great stories about her AND about her good friend, Pansy Phillips (Pansy's name must have come up a dozen times in art class yesterday!) Pansy lived right in Greensburg. Janice actually dedicates one of her books to pansy .. can't remember which one.

40 Acres was actually one of the last ones i've read in her series. (i'm loaning THE BELIEVERS to one of our art class students today too .. THANKS for the reminder this morning!) I also read a very good book ABOUT her life!

Janice is the one who introduced me to KENTUCKIANS and helped me understand their 'ways'. I adore the way she writes.

By the way .. THIS COMING WEEKEND is the Janice Holt Giles Festival at their log cabin in Knifley!! I plan to go!

Have you read all of her books yet? I adore the way she writes .. the language, the stories. Honestly makes me feel like i was living each story she told. xo
