Linda-I know you are tired of being displaced- but so glad your safe. This thing is breathing down our necks, huh? We are hunkered down here- we should have some rough stuff but it appears the eye will be just west of us. My 83 yr old dad is in Houston- he's very spry but no power is tough on older folks-that is probably my biggest concern. Also have a brother in law and family in Clear Lake-definitely in harms way. I hope the evacuations are moving along alright. We're not leaving the house-don't want to impede progress for those needing to leave.

Hi, girls... Please, please, please pray for my sister and her boyfriend who are in League City. I am scared immensely over the storm surge. I believe we will be okay but she is in a mandatory evacuation area, and is still in a one-story house 20-25 minutes from Galveston. I'm an hour out from Galveston not in a mandatory evacuation zone. Any prayers would be appreciated.

Praying for everyone as we are glued to the weather channel. MAy the Lord keep you safe, and I pray He would lessen the strength of the storm as it gets near.

I think we are inland enough that the wind wont be as bad- also hopefully the water wont rise as much either. Tks all of you who have expressed concern- Ill check in when I can.

Autumn,
*I wanted to call you and tell you and family to come to my home and leave a key for you, then they started telling everyone to get out and I did not want to offer you a place in harm's way. I am safe and I am praying for you. Sulphur gets rough and you know that so PLEASE be safe. If prayer wil keep you safe, you have them. I am tired of evacuating, but so grateful that I have a place to go and elecricity so that I can Neb when I need it. God has been gracious to me and mine so I can't complain ,,,,let us hear from you

Well, chances are many of us are about to lose contact with the rest of you farmgirls. They are predicting winds/tornadoes/massive rain for here. But the coasts both LA and TX are really going to be beat up and washed out. The pictures coming in of Galveston are just heartbreaking. I imagine SW Louisiana is going to be horrible as well. Take care everyone and we will meet here again as soon as possible. You are all in my thoughts and I hope you all are safe and sound when this has passed.

My prayers are with you and your families as you make the decisions of when to evacuate or where to go, etc. Look forward to seeing you all back here real soon! Please keep safe as you can. It is 8 P.M. here and the winds are picking up some. The sky is eerily pink and has that imminent foul weather look to it. I am just up working on homework and watching the radar. Oh BOY!!!!

It's cranking up here in SW Louisiana! Don't know how long we'll have power. We are near the Sabine River- it is expected to be 17.5 ft above FLOOD level- Record setting history. I'm not real sure what to expect-just waiting it out.

I was talking to my sister in Spring TX, about 30 miles north of Houston, about 7:00. While we were talking, her electricity went off. The wind was not blowing and it was not raining. But bad things are happening. They are far enough from the coast that they will not be effected by the surge but there will be plenty of rain and no power. The storm is supposed to be felt as far norht as OK City and Little Rock. Stay safe, we are praying. |

Yep- we still have power- and the wind is howling around here. It's 3 am and we have 6-7 more hours of rough weather and then we're gonna get to take a look at things. Mostly it seems to be wind but no trees snapping-which was my big fear. Lots of small branches but nothing really big. Brooke I hope all is well with you- Houston is really getting it! Also Clear Lake-

Autumn, glad to hear all is going well. I heard about the Sabine River flooding and got concerned.
Brooke, Hang in there, hopefully you won't go without power long. I'm sure the power trucks from other states are on their way right now to help Houston Electric.

We are getting a lot of wind and some rain band. I guess the bulk of the rain is coming tonight. The whole storm is just sitting east of us but its bands are coming over the top of us. If ANYONE still wants a place to stay, let me know. (((HUGS)))

There is a terrible mess left in Ike’s path. I am sure there will be reports of loss of life as some folks chose not to leave the area around Galveston and Houston, for various reasons. They are expecting 5 million people to be without power before it is all over. Maybe more.
We are hold up at my mom’s house.I suppose I should be so thankful it hasnt sold yet. It is brick and no trees close to the house. It is so well insulated, I have to look outside to see if it is raining. Right now we are under a tornado watch and periodically there are gusts but so far not too strong. We will have great downpours of rain for brief periods and then it will almost stop completely as these storm bands make their way around.
I am seeing pictures on the weather channel and it is just horrible. So much water. So many vehicles that will be of no use when this is over. Not to mention the 10-15 feet of water that is in homes and businesses. And of course, you probably know this, but the majority of gasoline for the US is refined in that area. So I can only imagine what will happen with gasoline prices if they are damaged and down for any length of time.
I sure like seeing daylight this morning. It is much more stressful to go thru bad weather in the dark. We have maintained power but as I said in the title ~ the worst is yet to come for us. South of us if you look on the map, there are red and orange storm cells. I feel like they will extend the tornado warnings for most of today.
Thankfully, the girls don’t have to go into work today. The grocery store they work in is closed due to the weather expectations. I am so glad because a lot of people that work there have to drive a good distance and being on the road is a bad idea at this time.
I just heard on the weather channel that Houston is just now getting much more water coming in - it is 8 a.m. there. I remember my aunt and uncle lived in Houston going thru Alicia in 1983. Of course they rode it out. My uncle went thru WW2 in Germany, France and Italy so it was pretty hard to scare him. In the aftermath and flooding, he got in his fishing boat and trolled up and down the streets of his neighborhood rescuing pets and people taking them to higher ground. At one point they had water 3 ft in their house.
We left the little kitties in the laundry room at our house last night so I think before it gets real bad I will go down and check on them and refill their water and food bowls.
I will check in with you all later if we have power and internet. I hope you are all safe and sound. I know everyone will let us hear how they are as they can.
