Linda,
I was in Lake Charles and Lafayette working after Rita hit. I arrived when many things were still down. Lake Charles was a mess. It was a sad state of affairs. I hope all of you plan and evacuate if called for. Stuff is not worth loosing you life. It's sad to loose your home, but we don't want to loose any of you. I've been working emergency management long enough now to see many sides of it. I worked with residents of Cameron Parish who showed me their home, their father's, their uncles, their sisters, and nothing was left but the foundation. They had strength to continue working and trying to rebuild. This is an emotional time for all. Keep your heads up, remember other have good thoughts for you, you are all strong. Blessings to each of you down there.

You farm girls are something else. We are heading up to Little Rock, Arkansas. We have supplies and rooms waiting for us up there. Laurie, you are correct, nothing down here is worth risking our life . You volunteers were awesome during that hard time for our state.
Too all of you that think we are remarkable----I lived in Chicago for 3 years and I think you Northern gals are something else....I never saw nor shoveled so much snow in all of my life....Each region has it own "thing" to deal with-----
My prayers are for the poeple in florida...that state has also had it...Remember 4 years ago it was hit my 3-4 hurricanes back to back....I think the word about all of us on the coast of the Gulf and Atlantic is weary...sometimes the job to get out and back in looms too huge to do, but God gives us the grace and here we go again.
We leave Monday morning....I will have my lap top with me so you will hear from us. Each of you in Louisiana, Flordia and anywhere the hurrican may hit, God speed to you. To those of you that are not in harms way, your prayers and kind words are what makes this doable...Thank you once again.
Linda H
PS---Mary Jane might kill me for revealing this, but during Rita she ask what she could send down...How about that for a true blue farm girl...but we know that don't we?

I am sitting in Washington State in a massive state of anxious worry. My 18 yo Dd and 21 yo ds left thursday evening with a convoy of ambulances headed to Texas. There are 6 other FF's from our town with them. My Dh and another FF left last night to fly to Dallas to pick up ambulances and head "somewhere" to evacuate people from hospitals and such. We have another Lt who's already down south helping lead the evacuations. I wanted to go, but needed to be home with the youngest and work my shifts at the fire station.
I just wanted you Gulf States farmgirls to know there are a lot of prayers headed your way, I have three extra special prayers I keep repeating. If you see a "Buckley" Firefighter give 'em a hug from Lt Riggsby. I am praying for safety for all the rescuers and for those of you who have to live through this again and again.

I just got a text that it is to be a category 5 most of the day tomorrow and then weaken a bit before landfall. What a mess this is going to be. My husband is in Tunisia and he has told them if we have damage they will have to get him a flight out. And there are some men he works with who actually live South and East of us so they are really in for it. I think he was going to be sure they got with HR and got some relief so the men could go home and take care of their families. I wont really even have a way to call him if we loose power. Maybe by cell but with Rita I had no cell service either. I suppose we will just have to use our telepathy!!
Please everyone stay safe. Love to each of you.

Lori, What parish are you in??? My gosh! Your gonna stay? Well, in alot of ways I do understand. When I lived in Jefferson Parish growing up, we never evacuated for any of the hurricanes. We always "rode them out." We were always fine. You are very well prepared girlfriend. You are in my prayers. Check in and keep us updated.

Oh how I am praying for everyone! If any of you need a place to stay please do not hesitate to e-mail me! We don't have much but we have a guest cottage and a fifth wheel we have set up for company. I am up in the the Texas Hill country just 30 miles west of San Antonio. The news today said San Antonio hotels were filling up fast. Please be safe and like so many have said, please check in and let us know you are ok.
Hugs,

Here is the latest radar shot of Gustav! It is already at the toe of Louisiana and Mississippi is taking a beating. The worst of it hasn't even got here yet. Has anyone heard from Marly? I am very worried about her!
