hotels are booked solid all through the south. My mom was supposed to be heading that way, but they have put her and others on hold as they get housing together. Last year the upper floor of our office was the dorm. Girls on one side, boys on the other. I arrived without a room, but got lucky since it was a week after Rita. If you don't already have plans, just head north. if you in a coastal parish, please don't stay.

I just went to Wally world here and I saw A LOT of Lousiana license plates and there are Sheriffs, police and medical from Dallas, Fort Worth and El Paso here. WOW!! All the hotel parking lots are full.

Hey girls- didn't see this topic before.
Sounds like everyone down here is well prepared! Especially the chocolate!!!!!
We are staying also- my hubby has to be here quickly to help, he's a communication worker-
We are under mandatory evac. and the town is deserted- talk about strange- no church services anywhere when we ran into town.
Rita tore us up pretty bad so I guess everyone took off thiis time.
I am feeling a little anxious but I think we'll be fine- I just hope it moves along quickly- I dread the LOOONG loud whoosh and cracking!!!
We're in the woods so BIG trees are a real threat.
Keep safe girls!!!

Blessings,
Autumn

Southern Farmgals, I have a dumb question. Seems everytime there is a hurricane, the news shows pickup trucks lined up at Lowes and Home Depot buying plywood. Then they show the business and home owners boarding up their windows with what looks like new plywood. Question: Does everyone buy new plywood for every storm. I know this sounds dumb cause I know what I'd do.

Belle,
The plywood is to protect the windows from shattering from the force of the wind and whatever it is throwing at you. Probably most people don't keep their plywood from year to year as it gets used up for other things that may come up. It seems that prices on everything go up during an approaching storm. Gas, food, plywood, water, you name it! They have it and we need it. :( I think alot of people would store the plywood for the next storm if it wasn't too warped out of shape from being wet or broken. I have seen plywood torn off homes and sent flying to who knows where. There are tons of folks though that cannot afford the cost of plywood for their homes and have to do without. Not a dumb question at all. :)

Governor Jindal has closed all schools in upper portion of the state. The gymnasiums will be needed for shelters. Our church has been contacted to help provide shelter either by opening up private homes or using the family life center as a shelter. The church is cooking hot meals 3x a day as well as providing blankets, toiletries, etc... Buses have been bringing folks into town. Lots of work right now. Thank you for the prayers. :)

I am feeling grateful that my two ambulance delivery kids got home this afternoon. We are still sending LOTS of prayers to the South as a whole because we really have no clue where our daddy is right now. Somewhere between Beaumont Tx and ??? I keep hoping he'll get a moment of cell service or catch a phone to let us know he's ok every once and a while. I pray those of you who are leaving are able to find shelter and those who are staying... be safe!!

I don't ususally come on on Sunday but I so want to add my prayers to you gals and ask God's mercy for everyone in the south area. We have our own devastating weather here as it seems every place has something to dread, but my heart goes out to you there. I pray that the getting out will be in a timely fashion and places to be while waiting it out will be with outstretched arms and hands of compassion...The Lord keep you in the pavillion of His grace...Debbie

All is well here! Linda- we got mostly rain and there is more to come, but we didn't get the heaviest of the wind and rain.
So glad you're safe- emjoy the vacation!!
Rob Robin says we have some serious flooding to look forward to tonight and tomorrow.
Thanks for all the support and encouragement for all our Louisiana girls.
I don't know who might be neared Houma but they got the real wind- also Morgan City.
If any of you girls are there let us know how you are.

Blessings,

I know I may be late in this but if anyone needs a place to stay...Linda? I am only 3 hours north of Little Rock where you are. And I have room, and a yard and a cat and a dog myself so pets are definitely welcome. I was outside the last few days working on a landscape project and wasn't paying attention much. Prayers and thoughts are with all of you!

Monica,
I got your email. I sent you one back.

This storm isn't turning out to be quite as damaging as we were expecting. Louisiana was better prepared this time. Right now, I am just getting some rain and gusty wind, but it has not fully reached me yet either. I just hope it doesn't spawn any tornado's The wind and rain will pick up tonight through tomorrow and my electricity may go out. So if y'all don't hear from me, that is the reason. It seems to do that at the blink of an eye. I don't have many oak trees left and I sure don't want to lose anymore, but the tops of them have been swaying in circle. None are very near the house though thank goodness. Thank you all for your prayers for everyone affected. Good night!
