So that's it! Not sleeping! I too kept asking "how do you DO all this" . Then that little smile! I guess I'm gonna have to give up sleeping. I'm so sorry that we had to leave when we did. My boys were leaving the next morning and wanted to spend the evening with them or we would have stayed longer.

Ok...now I have to go out to the field and get on those beans too. I know they are out there and I'm gonna be hearing them all night and won't be able to sleep. Now you've done it Ms. Wilma

I'll try to get the pics from Alan's camera on here somehow.....And Jonnie please post yours, too.

Luna, we dont know much but will be happy to share anything we know, I will take a picture of the peaches mom canned with the seeds in them, they are to pretty to eat. I had one of the best days of my life, I am going to maker a keeper doll with the wool, Now we have to really plan this thing out because we want all to come that can, I was worried you wouldnt like what I said but honestly the first thing that crossed my mind was how regal and beautiful you were. just like an I ndian princess as I told you all we are just plain old farm folks, but as long as everyone is happy here we want all of you to come

Miss Wilma if y'all dont know much thean I know less than nothing! My peaches are verry small, likw golf balls but have a lot of fuzz and just barely barely starting to blush. I thought they were supposed to get bigger before they blushed. They do not look like the ones in the store at all. I really am a total novice at all this. I have been lucky to have had a good spring and summer of rain and a fertile plot of land among the clay soil. After that last post I ran out to the garden and on a whim started picking tomatoes cause they looke like there might be something boring into a few of them. I wound up picking about 20 pounds mixed red and green! You inspired me! And I am totally flattered

Luna, sounds like you've been crazy busy with the farm since we saw you on Saturday! That's wonderful!!! It's true what I said, neither Miss Wilma nor her parents sleep, and I bet Sterl doesn't even get more than a few winks or two. They are "up with the chickens" as they say!!! I came home and felt immediately inefficient, to say the least :)

I posted a few of the photos I had, Luna in the first couple of pages--but Alan was the smartie who figured out my batteries were dead. Lord knows how many I took without that knowledge!!!! What few I had, though, turned out nicely and (I think) captured the spirit of the day.

Luna, Miss Wilma is right...you're a very elegant, lovely woman, and Alan is a keeper for sure. I guess your momma was a looker, to boot, then ;)!

Luna - I think guys cooking is a GREAT idea! LOL! David really does love to cook, too. And that pre work thing is a good idea, too. I think we'll just have to remember that and remind Wilma when the time gets closer.

I would like to sample some of Dave's dishes, Janice...Justin, not so much. He does a good breakfast (eggs, omlettes, etc...) but other than that, we try to keep him out of the kitchen :) Lately, though, since he's been working at Otto's, he's picked up some "pointers" and he's always in my space when I'm chopping herbs--HE wants to do it like the chefs at Otto's....so I let him.

Can't wait to see what unfolds at Miss Wilma's in the autumn. As lovely as this summer has been, I'm hoping autumn holds as much wonder!

If that boy wants to chop let him. My least favorite thing about cooking is the chopping. I can see a group of chef's in the kitchen, chopping, mixing stirring as the ladies set out the pretty table and keep the dishes safe and out of their hands. Gotta figure out a way to get them to wash the dishes too! Maybe just the pots. Keep those dishes safe, you know....

I know, right? It's sortof cute..he's never taken an interest in the kitchen after the "spagoetta incident"--don't ask, TOTAL failure, but lately he has really been into chopping!

I like the idea of men cooking in the kitchen...a nice glass of wine, some nice music, smells of onions and garlic sauteeing in olive oil--yep, my kindof night :)

If Miss Wilma's momma is at our gathering, we'll probably have to hog-tie her to keep her sitting!!! ;)

Ok..I won't ask about the spaghetti incident...someday you'll tell me. I think men really do like to cook, I've known many in my life (thank goodness!) But many have been brainwashed that they cant or shouldn't. Like me with power tools...can't go near em...no reason why I shouldn't be able to handle it...just blocked about it.

But there is a specialness about a meal cooked by the man in your life. I like your scenario...that one may have to be planned out too. Possibly here in the yard. i just got a great book called Outstanding in the Field about a male chef who cooks right from the local harvest and sets up the table right next to the garden. I just love the idea. i am seriously leaning toward doing something like it here in the fall too. Another event. Men cooking fromt he fruit of the field. A beautiful long table set by the women with all differnt dishes and sparkling glassware and flowers from our gardens... Ahh....where's my wine glass....

Luna, that sounds like my kind of book! Is it written by Michel Nieschaun (butchered that name) by chance? I have a wonderful fresh cook book from him--he's currently the house chef on Victory Garden, and that sounds SOOO much like something he would write.

What a lovely picture you've painted...and it sounds like a perfect event--one I know we'd attend in a heartbeat.

Yes, one day I will tell you about the spagoetta....just be thankful you never had to smell it :)

Miss Wilma, Sterl is the official biscuit maker, then. Justin chops, Sterl makes biscuits, Alan and Dave do it all :)

Wilma you need to correct that....Sterl is the "the big biscuit" maker! haha.

It looks like tomorrow will be a beautiful day for a wedding. :) We'll be heading down there as I'm doing the photos. Can't wait to see family.

Have you girls thought of a good month to meet again for the fall? I can't wait until our next gathering. We keep growing in folks at our gatherings and we all have a grand ole time!

Have fun this weekend, Jessie, and say hello to your grands for me. September is very busy for us, so I was thinking October (what a good birthday gift to me!)...it's up to everyone else, but I don't have a spare second in September :)

Jonni - you describing the man chopping veggies, the wine and the soft music and cooking together, I immediately saw Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep in the movie Bridges of Madison County. Now that was a neat scene.....farm kitchen, screen door, loved to look at that movie. My hubby loves to cook too. He even has a crew of guys at the church who makes biscuits from scratch, grits, eggs and bacon every other Sunday morning for the whole church. They have a good ole time doing it too.

Jeannie, that IS a great scene, isn't it? There's a man who isn't afraid of a little kitchen duty, FOR SURE :) It's nice to hear of men who like the kitchen--my daddy was one. But, being half cajun and half native american, there were times when his food was TOO spicy for momma and I to eat!!!

I really like the sound of the men cooking for the church...I bet there's all kinds of good natured barbs going around that day :)

Jonni - they even cooked on Father's Day because it was their day to cook. Can you imagine women cooking for the whole church on Mother's Day? I do not think that would happen! Everybody comes on the days when they know breakfast is being made.

They have their own grill on wheels they take to Habitat for Humanity and cook lunch for folks. And let me tell you, our church eats well on many occasions. God bless the men's cooking crew.

Sounds like a wonderful blessing, Jeannie...the ladies and in your church and the church community are VERY lucky! Definitely no women cooking on Mother's day...take em out!!!!
