What are they, Wilma??? And did you see the daylily pic I posted in Garden Gate that I think you need? And do you want me to save you a purple basil? If it goes to seed before Oct., I could just collect all the seeds.

I have a pair of leather pants that my mother bought me one year...but I don't think that's what you're referring to, Miss Wilma :)

I hope not, Wilma! LOL! The largest parts of my anatomy would not be happy in 'leather britches'! :D

I just had to have some fun with this one no they arent to wear in fact if you eat to many of them, you better get your britches off, They are dried green beans sometimes called shucky beans, I am going to string these up with crochet thread like we did in the mountains.Just give me a skillet of cornbread and a kettle of leather britches and you have got one happy gal, unless I get piggy and eat to many

I would have never know that was what "leather britches were". So when you make them after you dried them do you reconstitue them, plump them back up?

miss wilma I know you can get a lttle wild, so I wasn't sure if you might have a pair of leather britches or not. Sterl wouldn't know what to do with himself if he saw you in a pair of those! But I'm with you; I'll take a pot of beans anyday. Love em |

Miss Wilma, I had posted on the food forum asking how to dry beans for the Leather Britches! I love them....do you wash the bean first BEFORE you string them?

Yes you wash them just like for canning then string with crochet thread doubled using a darning needle, and I will hang mine out on the sewing house porch so they can get some sun, You can also break them up and dry on the roof top just like apples, If I can be of more help let me know also white beans are better for drying than colored

Well, I sure learn something from you every day, Miss Wilma! Can you take a picture of them drying on the porch? And I'm really relieved I don't have to try to get my big fat you know what in a pair of leather britches! LOL!!!!!:D

Ohhh come on, now Janice! Leather is fun! Though, admittedly, the leather britches Miss Wilma is talking about sounds a lot more appetizing than what I might look like in leather britches in October!
I'm so anxious to try them...and you're right. I learn something everyday from Wilma--amazing woman!

HAHAHA! I'd go to the farmer's market, Nancy Jo, but I can only make one trip on lunch today, and I've already chosen.....guess what??? A thrift store, of course! I get the old lady discount there and I can walk from my office! YIPPEE!
