Hi, I am 'home' for 3 months now. My husband and I will make it 6 months in a non-designated time. I grew up in San Anton, Houston & El Paso. I am now in WI. in a Fargirl chapter. I would very much like to stay attached to a virtual TX. chapter. I'll keep wtching to see what develops.

Hi Jill,

I am just Northeast of Boerne and Canyon Lake is just down the road. I grew up in El Paso but my husband and I have lived in Kentucky, Alaska, Oregon and New Mexico. Where in El Paso did you grow up?

I went to your web site, using the link in the post above, and I couldn't figure out how to contact you. So, I am not sure how to let you know that I want to help with the Friendship Quilt. Is there some other way to reach you without the web site?

Hotties, Depending on Hurricane Gustavs' path,we may have to evacuate. Already our town is calling for a mandatory evacuation tomorrow. I'll let you know if we do have to leave here.

Dear Hotties, as of this morning we are ready to evacuate, but still at home for now. We will watch the storm for a little longer. Right now it looks like we may not need to evacuate, the storm is heading more toward our east. Thank you for your prayers. I'll let you know if we change our minds and leave today. Please pray for those who are in the direct path of this storm! It looks bad!
Thank you Heather, for your offer, I really appreciate it!

Good Morning Hotties, here in my town things are good. I must admit with most of the town gone, it sure is peaceful and quiet! But I expect some to arrive back home tonight and most of the rest tomorrow. School is out for Tuesday and Wednesday, but most businesses will be back open tomorrow.
Today is September 1. September is Sewing Month so it's fitting our chapter project for this month is the Friendship Quilt!
Hope you have a great Labor Day!

I'm glad it sounds like everyone is okay. Phew! Our prayers worked, I believe!

I'm sorry, girls, I have decided not to partake of the friendship quilt because of so many projects I must do. I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to get to it like I want. I'd rather not commit to it then fall back later on it. I hope you understand!

Brooke, are any of your projects a sewing or craft project? If so, you are good because for those Hotties who don't want to do the Friendship Quilt, it was suggested to do some other project.

Nothing of a sewing sort yet. lol. I am hoping to get a sewing machine either from mom or my mom-in-law... This is another thing. I have hand problems (arthritis like) so I worry it would hurt my hands. I'm not trying to make an excuse.

My projects right now (which I have to do) involve getting my online store up and running more, and also my healing thing going more too.
I really have to do those two things foremost cause I feel like it's taking me forever -- and this is what I am trying to get started to eventual make more of my living from! Next thing is getting my music cd available!

Hey there....So glad and thankful you are ok, Caron. That storm looks bad.

With September being sewing month, I am dedicating this month to getting a handle on some of the projects that I have around here. I want to make a shoe rack to hang on the closet door, and finish a "prairie" type dress that I started. I plan to sell it on ebay. There is also a few quilt blocks for a friend of a friend that is in the hospital with cancer.

Brooke...I really understand what you struggle with...my real pain is at the opposite end...my ankles. Walking is not much fun most days.

Angikay, what was the finished size of the Friendship block again?? Did we decide on a color scheme? Let me know when you can.

Well, it is almost two a.m. I think maybe I can sleep now.
Blessings on you all

Hotties,
There has been a slight change of plans for our Friendship Quilt. We are going to delay starting it until possibly next month. So if you signed on to do the quilt, we'll be keeping the list of names, and we will begin on that next month or so. In the meantime, in honor of Sewing Month, our September focus is going to be on handmade items. Your assignment, if you choose to accept it, (LOL!) is to make a handmade item that you will give to a family member or friend for Christmas. The item can be any handmade thing you want, but we'd love to hear what you're making and we love if you'd post progress reports throughout the month of September!

Thanks Hotties!

For Septembers' project I will be cross-stitching some pillows (tops). The pattern is a dutch tulip design. They will be for my in-laws to put on their bed. My mother-in-law loves soft, pastel shades of blue. So I'll do them in that, with just a touch of either yellow or pink in them.

I'm actually thrilled we have put the quilt project on the back burner on a slow simmer for this month.....because I really wanted to participate, but my plate, like so many others is over-flowing at the moment. I am 3 and 4 weeks into recovery from cataract surgery....and lens implants. The results are not what I dreamed of, but I am thrilled with my newly gained sight without glasses. Still need some "tweaking"...and plans will be made for that when I return to my wonderful doctor...Charles Heaton, on September 11th. Sounds like we will need to do a little laser "zap" to do some "fine tuning". Last week I had 4 injections in my neck (cervical spine) for a pretty severe spinal cord injury I sustained a couple of years ago......and 4 days after that I "inherited" my 2 year old niece for an indefinite time frame. On top of that....several of my family members who live in Vinton and Sulphur, LA came to my house when they were given the mandatory evac notice. One, my Auntie M, brought 7 cats and a very old and blind cocker spaniel. Luckily our garage is large....so the cats got to stay there. Wasn't bad though as my dh set up several fans so there was a good circulation of air. My Ma...who is 85...and lives about 15 miles away ended up with 8 other relatives. Thankfully, the damage to that part of LA was pretty minimal....compared to what was expected....and at 9 am this morning the mandatory evac was lifted....so they immediately started packing and were ready to leave by 10:45 this morning. Man, oh man.....I have just finished cleaning house....changing sheets, vaccuuming, mopping...and all that good stuff and the baby is down for her nap....and hubby won't be home for almost a half hour...so this is my "down time".
I plan on making all the women in the family aprons for Christmas...and I will have pics of my progress. Don't know what to make the guys yet.....but am open for suggestions.
Please don't take this post as me whining.....because I'm not. Just got a full plate.....and was not going to be able to participate in the quilt project, but now I think I will be able to. I know why YOUNG women have the babies.....cause I'm 54 and this little punkin is keeping me busy. She kicks my a$$ on some days.......oh, the energy. Wish I could harvest some of it.
I'm happy that so far everyone has fared well thus far with Gustav. Let's keep our fingers crossed that Ike doesn't sneak through and hit the Gulf....
We certainly don't need that.
Ciao ladies,
Kate

Like Kate, I am making aprons for all my family; nieces (9 of them), sisters and sister-in-law. Along with the aprons I will be making matching potholders. Since I am the cook of the family, my family has requested over the years for me to put together a family cookbook. So this year I am going to surprise them. I have been putting together recipes from grandmas, aunts, uncles, moms & dads etc. I will be printing each of their favorite recipe onto the potholder using the printable cloth you can use in your printer. I have already started the aprons so this will give me incentive to get them done this month! :O)

Alright Hotties! I am excited about all the handmade projects we will be working on this month!
Kate, God bless you for taking on the little one. I know when my great nephew (age 4) and his sisters (ages 8 and 10), and/or my little great niece (almost 1) come over I am exausted when they leave! I know its a lot for you but I know there is much joy also.

Heather, glad you caught the joke!

Hmmmm...a hand project....would the quilt on my quilting frame (one I pieced in the late nineties...and I won't tell you how many times I have had it on and off the frame!!!)...would that count??? I would love to have an incentive to get all the quilting done on it. It is for my son who will be 21 in a few days. He is off to college shortly, and maybe that would be a nice addition to the apartment he will be living in. If this would count for our project this month, I will be spurred on to finish this quilt. Sound good to you hotties???

Not much more going on here...we got just a sprinkling of rain for Gustav....just enough to make it muggy and muddy outside.

Well, off to get my daughter from work, and then hopefully to bed.

Caron...
Thanks for the cudos....but ya know, Lennon (my niece...named after John Lennon) is a blessing! I am having sooooo much fun and actually go to bed TIRED. For months and months I have complained to my doc that I can't sleep....with problems from this and that, and he has been hesitant to give me any sleep aids because of the meds I take for my spinal cord injury. PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!! Get a 2 year old and I guarantee sleep will come easily. At first I resisted the urge to nap with her in the afternoons.....for fear that I would have a difficult time falling asleep at night...WRONG!!!! She keeps me soooo busy that on the few occasions I have napped with her, I still sleep like a log. I have always been very active....my dh counts seconds when I sit down...cause I usually don't sit for a whole minute....and I always go and go till bedtime. And now with Lennon here....I am doubly active, and I actually think it is therapeutic.
It's still raining here....more of a "mist" but nonetheless...too wet to go out and play......so it's off to the livingroom to build blanket forts. I hope all you lovely ladies have a blessed day!
Ciao,
Kate
