Hi, girls, I don't know if I can join right at this time. I know 20 dollars is not alot in the grand scheme of things, but we are holding onto what we can. I just can't do that right now when we don't have alot. I hope you will understand. I don't have Mary Jane's book right now, so I would have to get that as well, even though I want it.. I also see some things I want to do where I'd have to buy things (budget mix, etc) and I just can't (though I want it..LOL!) ... maybe if my little store does well and things pick up here, then I will be able to.... God bless the HOTTIES!!!!!!!!!!

Brooke, you join us in the Henhouse whenever you are able to. In the meantime, you will be able to read the posts there, just not post anything yourself. So keep up with us that way, and post here in Chapter Chatter if you need to post something. I will be checking it as well! And thank you for the blessing!

Hotties, I heard from Jen and they are still having a problem with setting up our Henhouse. For now, we will just stay here and when the Henhouse is set up I'll post a notice here that the Henhouse is ready. Sorry about the delay!

Hi, Caron, thanks so much, I will sometime soon and yes, I'll post here then and keep up watch when it's up... :)
I am actually going to learn how to stitch ... Mom-in-law is going to give me her mother's sewing machine table..it's just about 40 years old, but hey, it's a sewing machine! I want to make those cute lounging pants I keep seeing everywhere... for starters anyway! Hey, for once we didn't have rain here today! We usually get thunderstorms every afternoon!

I am having a tough go with Charlie this past week. I don't know if it is a growth spurt or just being 2, but he is just mean and cranky. I just keep giving kisses and hugs and trying not to bang my head on the wall : )
We are on are normal schedule of rain showers once a day. We really need the rain, so it is nice. I am working on getting ready for the start of college in August. It will sneak up on me fast.
Trying to work on some aprons and a little project for Charlie. Haven't had much time. Still job hunting...really just waiting on people to either contact me or call me back. I hate the waiting game.

Yesterday I went to Hobby Lobby and got a package of Lancaster quilt blocks to embroidery. The package has 6 squares, 18x18 in it. I'm going to make pillows though, instead of a quilt. I have lots of thread from when I was totally into cross stitch, so I just need to choose what colors for each pillow. I mentioned this in another thread but I'm not sure if I mentioned it here, but my husband and I are civil war reenactors. The men have battles, etc. to do when we are at an event, but the women mostly are sitting in the camps (after food is prepared) talking to each other or to visitors who have questions. I thought this would give me something to do while sitting and it will look period correct. I crochet some, so between the two, I'll be set. I would LOVE to learn to knit, so I'm hoping that is in my future!
No rain here, but we do need a little. It's forcast for tomorrow, so we'll see. If not, I'll need to go water some plants!

Brooke, you ought to try a reenactment one day! I didn't realize it would be so much fun, and we'd meet so many nice people. It's just great!

Caron, wish you and the reenactment were closer. I'd go! Where are you located? I don't know if my husband would like to do that (even though he's a history buff), and I don't want to go by myself! lol.

Caron, that sounds awesome! I think that would be a great thing to do while you sit. I love re-inactments!

We go to reenactments in DeRidder, Louisiana, Pleasant Hill Texas, Jefferson Texas, Liendo Plantation near Brenham Texas,Niblett's Bluff Louisiana, and anywhere else we can find in Southeast Texas or Southwest Louisiana. We also put on a small one each May here in Orange at the park and use local students from the 8th grade to help us. They would have studied the civil war for a whole semester, made their own clothing, learned skills like quilting, weaving, cooking, rifle drills, blacksmithing, being in the cavalry or artillery.Other local schools bring their students to tour the camp and hear the presentations from the students working with us. For them this is their final grade, so they work very hard to be authentic! When we start up again in September (July and August is just too hot to wear all those layers of clothing!) I'll post here or in the Henhouse where we will be, just in case any of you Hottie farmgirls can come to one of them!

You know what..I'd actually like to get involved...I keep saying I'm going to but always put it to the way side... I wonder how cheap I can get some material for making a dress... I wonder how much does it cost... Caron, what would I need to get started and involved? How much does it take? That's September... so I have a couple of months or so ...and Liendo is in November... so ...

Brooke, you will need a dress, hairnet or bonnet,a petticoat and/or hoop for under the dress. The dress should be made of cotton (no synthetic blends). We wear boots that look like granny boots and white stockings, cotton knee high socks work well. The dress needs to be long sleeved, unless your under 25 in which case you can wear a short sleeved dress.Use one of the patterns such as the simplicity pattern,if you have that. If it's a skirt and shirt, the shirt should button up the front and both should be made of the same material. The skirt should be quite full if you are wearing a hoop. You'll need enough material to go over the hoop without being too tight. No zippers in the skirt, pleat it and attach it to a waistband, it can fasten with a hook and eye or a button and buttonhole. Important: If you wear a hoop, be sure to wear something underneath like capri's or if you have them, pantaloons. You can get the hoop from a bridal shop, just a plain one not one with ruffles or netting under it. Just a cotton one. Try to keep the dress rather plain and simple for a daydress, save the fancy lace and flowers for a ball gown. Check ebay under "civil war" then find costumes and reenactment clothing and you'll find dresses for sale you can look at to get an idea from. This is the very basics and you can go from there.I started with a green top and skirt, a black bonnet,a hoop, boots I already had and some white socks.

Thanks, Caron, that is VERY helpful! I'm doing some research now. Is there a particular group you're in? I'm looking at the 11th Cavalry here in Houston. I am going to try and get my brother to join. Our roots go back looong and deep in the South/Civil War. Lots of good stories to be told there. lol. Are you in the Daughters of the Confederacy? I've thought about joining. I actually think I have the pattern for pantaloons and all the undergarments I'd ever need. lol. Ah, I knew those granny boots I had would be useful for something. :P

I'm not in the Daughters of the Confederacy, but one of our members is. Our unit is called the 3rd Texas Artillery. They have several cannons they fire at each event, as well as the long rifles. I know the 11th Texas and they are nice people!

Wow Caron, that is cool! I have been to one of the reenactments in Jefferson. I am about 40 minutes from town, so every now and again we shoot on in for the best fried catfish EVER; in a little hole in the wall on the river. How fun!

Hotties, remember we are having a logo/design contest for the Heart of Texas Farmgirl chapter! I saw one of the other chapters took their design and made badges out of them like their sisterhood badges. I think that's a cool idea, so be sure your design will fit into the hex shape the sisterhood badge is in. Contest ends July 31st!
