I know this will open up a Pandora's Box, but it occurred to me that with everybody selling their goods and wares like mad through her site (from which there is a good readership), it might be nice to give her a little thank you for the opportunity she provides!

I am sure she will say NO! But it might be nice to offer!

Jeannie - you are correct. On here some use this as free ad for their products, but I agree with you that folks should either place an ad in her magazine, or pay for an "online ad" to sell their merchandise. It would give back to her for all that she has done in maintaining this board and her website. I wouldn't mind a bit paying for an advertisement for my photography stuff to get the word out there.

gurlfrenz .. i believe maryjane offers the 'marketplace' for us out of her kindness and a way to help support farmgirls all across america ... (she even spoke of this offering when visiting with the farmgirls here at freedom valley farm). therefore, i have felt very comfortable about offering dolls and treasures here. i hope i have also added my own 'spirit' in conversations in other categories since joining too. with over 5,000 posts, i truly have tried.

i think we have all found it to be fun and a great way to barter or purchase things from other farmgirls to help support our families .. i'd rather buy from a friend than from a stranger .. or a way to exchange goods with one another.

i also 'think' she probably only wants certain types of ads in her magazine to keep the integrity of it.

i believe a major way to show our appreciation is to purchase MaryJane products .. support her business in any way we can. spread the 'good news' of maryjane and her farm. (i rarely meet anyone that i don't rave about MaryJane and show her books to them and encourage them to buy them.)

a 'contribution' from time to time for perhaps a 'building fund' .. or towards her wonderful mill ... from ALL of us .. those who utilize the marketplace and all other categories might be a very nice way to show our appreciation.

i have purchased several dozens of her books for friends. i am not a big cook .. i did buy lots of her food products .. but found .. like 'store-bought' .. i often left them on the shelves for months and months. sooo .. i continue to purchase books for friends.

perhaps maryjane can jump in here and let us know if she thinks we are over-using the 'marketplace'. or some way that would be helpful in compensation. i like to think that those of us who do use the marketplace .. also post information in other categories and don't JUST use it to make some pennies. my other forums that i am on also offer a 'sales' area .. i think it is something that women are interested in .. and when we have conversations with friends .. 'shopping' from each other often comes up.

maybe only advertizing 'hand-dids' (made in rural america!) might be something she would like for us to do???

sweet maryjane .. can you give us all some wisdom and guidance here.

i have a list of over 300 women who are on my 'treasure seekers' list that i also send my postings to. i tried the 'blog' thingie for them .. but it took FOREVER to upload the photos. i have an antiques shoppe in greensburg where most of my treasures are sold .. and another one where i put dolls from time to time. but i'd so much rather that the things i have created and loved go to my friends rather than strangers.

we are all very grateful to sweet maryjane for offering a 'forum' for us in all the categories listed. we are all very thankful to her and her farmgirls for the 'forum' .. of bringing like-minded and like-hearted women from all across the country together .. helping us in our 'home-based' businesses ..

maryjane .. what can we do for you?? xoxo, frannie

Nick and I just got back from a long walk in the dark. Even though I carry a flashlight, I like to keep it turned off to see if, or to let, my other senses kick in--I know a horse can "see" with its feet. I also think better when I walk in the dark because the rest of the world is tucked in for the night. Alee alerted me to this precious thread of yours but I'd like to sleep on it first before I fully respond. Miss Wilma, Frannnie, Shirley Jean, Jessica--I love your presence on this forum and in my life. Not to worry! It makes me happy to see you here selling your wares and jabbering away. A system of reciprocity, well the kind I was schooled in, is a ticklish thing that works only when people are diplomatic, trusting, and giving. I have much in my heart about this very topic, almost too much. I might not find the words.

Please believe me when I say I started this thread with a desire to present it in a positive and good way. I so agree that buying products from MaryJane is a great way to keep a balance alive. I love to buy things on this site, and from MaryJanesFarm, and I have bought many wonderful and handmade items, and have found great services too!

I have found everyone to be trusting, and diplomatic and giving, and I loved your initial response above, MaryJane! I hope you know how much I thank you for having this place for us to be a part of.

dear maryjane .. whatever words your heart comes up with will all be jus' perfect!

gurlz .. i know that we all know that maryjane is a sweetheart first and foremost .. and a 'business owner' is on that list too! businesses thrive because they are supported by loyal customers .. and it is important that each and every one of us who participate in her forum .. support maryjane's business .. not only to 'give back' as a way of saying thank you .. but to let her know that her products are important to us .. her ideas and ideals about this 'ole earth of ours and her striving to help keep us all healthy is important to us (and GOOD for us too!!)

hugs to everyone .. now .. back to chatting! xo, frannie

MaryJane has a wonderful philosophy on business. She encouraged me when I was dealing with someone not handling competition in a very kind way. She said she fully believes in what she termed "coopetition" which is combining the words cooperation with competition . . . meaning we help each other even when we may be involved in similar things. For example she is very into organic farming, but rather than acting like she should be the "only organic farmer" she encourages others to come walk beside her in their endeavors. She has been a huge encourager to me with my endeavors in antiques and other creative venues. I think embracing one another in our talents and abilities is something she encourages and she truly likes seeing other women succeed. I think this thought process is what has helped us to be so endeared to her. If only the rest of the world operated like this . . . seems to me wars and famines could all be a thing of the past. I am honored to know someone of such high standards and example.

Hugs & blessings,

Brenda

I guess what I meant before was that Mary Jane pays for this board, pays for website hosting, her time, and her business name. I think it is good that folks can tell others about their products, but I think you should help the one that brought you here. I love seeing all the ideas and creativity amongst the girls. I know that I promote MJF and her products to fellow farmgirls here in the area and several states throughout the southeast, even beyond the fact that yes my aunt is in the magazine. I love the simple living and the marketing that Mary Jane has put forth. Sometimes I feel like some don't give her enough credit because she does a wonderful job in what she does.

So with that said, I may be oxymoronic here...Here is a tiny suggestion I was thinking of for the Marketplace section. Rather than putting up one post for each item one has, have just one thread dedicated to that person's products rather them spread out several threads. You can see the work that person has done collectively and possibly have grown over the years. In turn, I would even do as a "thank you" to Mary Jane that you support her and her family by purchasing something, whether it be a book, magazine, food, or all the wonderful household products on her website. Say for every few items you sell, purchase something or do something as a thank you for providing this free space to tell others about your product.

Like I said - I love Mary Jane's products and wouldn't have known about them without word of mouth. Once I found out I think I told it all over the mountain. haha. And from conversations with Wilma, I can say I hold the upmost respect for Mary Jane and her business

this entire forum.... not just the barter section shines forth out of MaryJane's love for her fellow farm girl sisters and friends. A lovely sense of community and friendship has evolved from one woman's vision that truly the world could be a sweeter place...and for that I truly thank MaryJane for having created such a nice place for those of us spread from hither and yon around the globe..to have a central "meeting up place" to gather and share the joys, and sometimes even the sorrows that being wives, mothers, sisters, farm girls entails.Thank you MaryJane for all that you do!

MaryJane truly is awesome!!! And I feel sooo commited to helping out any way I can!!! She has been such a positive influence in my life!!
On that note.. this week any farmgirl sister gets a cutting board with 200 dollar food purchse. At first I thought "gee,I don't have it." But then I thought how easy it is to drop $200 at Costco for bulk items. I just got them from MJ instead AND they are organic!!! They all sound yummy too!!!

I wanted to make a purchase of MJ's food last week to stock up on lunch items again...but I also wanted to buy garden soil for my new garden beds....which will also feed us in more ways than one. I sing Mary Jane's praises all over this town and I hope she knows that, even though I don't buy food from her all the time, I do buy food from local producers, and I THINK about everything I eat, clean with, read, etc...I give her books and magazines as gifts (along with some pretty cool homemade bread, pies and the like) and I try to be a better person to folks I know, just meet and my earth, so her influence is legion. But, I don't have a craft or product to sell...I'm sortof talentless that way :) Good thing I'm a super consumer!!!!

I dunno, I see this forum as such a network...of all things, products, friends, amazing spiritual connections. Since I'm a "super consumer", my eyes have been opened to limitless items made by women all over this country and beyond. That's pretty freakin' cool, I think! You should have SEEN the look of envy on my mother's face when I told her all about Miss Wilma's shop, or Frannie's rabbits or Bev's little goat video...or all of the other gals I connect with here on a daily basis. And, yes, it's all because of Mary Jane, this gift she gives each and every one of us--this connection to talk, to sell, to buy, to give advice, to share recipes and burdens, and oh yeah, to buy Mary Jane's wonderful stuff which is how most of us even got to the forum to meet one another. We discuss and buy, books, aprons, tote bags and food products, and we talk about little Jimmy's bad behavior or the cake that went flat in the oven

I see this as a two way street (and that's my business mind talkin'), but I think we (the forum) and MJ wash each other's hands, so to speak. Certainly just my two cents which is probably worth less than that.....

I agree with Jonni. Though I have purchased MaryJane's products before (some food, bath towels, calender, etc.) I am not always able to do so. But I also spread the word about her all the time. I bought my mom some of the towels and the calendar and that made her a beleiver of the fine products MaryJane sells. I tell everyone about her books and magazines and am always mentioning this forum to people. I think we all are farmgirls and are all here to help each other, whether it be emotional help or a little financial help when we have something to sell. As long as no one here is getting rich off of peddling our wares than I see no reason to not continue posting things that we have for sale or barter.
