I just finished The Measure of a Lady by Deeanne Gist. It was the first time I had read one of her books. It was pretty good.

I am waiting to get my hands on Karen Kingsbury last in whatever the name of the series is about the Baxter family. I thought it was suppose to be out spring 2008, but haven't found it yet. Guess I should check CBD.

Wanted to add, love the art work on the covers of Gist's books.

Also, looks like the release date on Kingsbury's last in the Sunrise series is 9/08. Dogoneit!

I might have to get myself that formerly mentioned Gist book about the bride...sounds like something I'd be into for sure.

Aunt Jenny, all my books lately have been thrift store buys, too...wouldn't trade it. People give the silliest things away :)

I just finished a book called Letters from Yellowstone by Diane Smith, about a lady botanist researching in Yellowstone at the turn of the century. I really liked it. It is a must read for wildflower lovers, or those visiting Yellowstone this summer.

Oh, man!! I just bought Little Heathens and I can't wait to get started with that. My dad was a young boy during the depression and boy can he tell you some stories about that time in his life - not having shoes to wear, eating mustard sandwiches, eating onion sandwiches - I can't even imagine, but I can't wait to read the book - did you all like it????

Carol,

I'm about 2/3 way through Little Heathens. I really like it. Think I'll buy it for my mom for her birthday.

I just started Fannie Flagg's Can't Wait To Get To Heaven. It is such a pleasure, I love her books. She is such an amazing writer and her characters are so well written. I'm trying not to read it too fast. I got it from Paperback Swap, so thaks again to whoever posted that info...

So, this past weekend I read Twenty Wishes and Someday Soon, both by Debbie Macomber (loved both of them). I just went to the library today and got The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs (I have been on the wait list for over a month!) and The Quilter's Apprentice by Jennifer Chiaverini (I read this so many years ago and remember liking it, but don't remember it, so I am going to reread it)

I have read all of Fannie Flagg's books and each one is better than the previous one. Can't Wait To Get To Heaven is my favorite by far. Last books I read were The New Square Foot Gardening and MaryJane's IdeaBook, Cookbook, Lifebook.

I haven't been on in a while, and this is the first place I like to go!! I looked over the recent books you all are reading, and immediately requested "Little Heathens" from my local library! I just completed a marathon reading session on vacation...my picks for great reads were: "Last Dance at Jitterbug Lounge" by Pamela Morsi, "A Fatal Waltz" by Tasha Alexander, "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett, amd for the fantasy/sci fi readers, any book by Jim Butcher. His Codex Alera and Dresden series are phenomenal.A good historical mystery was "Tell Me, Pretty Maiden" by Rhys Bowen. Actually, anything Rhys has written has been very entertaining...Molly Murphy mysteries (set in early 1900's with an Irish lass) and Evan Evans series (set in present day Scotland, great quiet male hero). I am also plowing through Janet Evanovich's number series...I am up to ten, and my husband is close behind at nine!! We both laugh out loud at the antics of Stephanie Plum! I also like M.C. Beaton's "Agatha Raisin" series a lot. As for the paranormal romance stuff (my interests are wide! :-) ) I just finished "The Hollow" by NOra Roberts...it was entertaining, but I prefer something a little less grim...look at "Ill Wind" by Rachel Caine (and all the books after that..."Heat Stroke", "Windfall", "Firestorm", etc.) or by Patricia Briggs..."Moon Called", "Blood Bound", etc...or Karen Marie Moning's "Darkfever, "Bloodfever", and soon-to-be-released "Faefever".
Well, I guess I am done spouting now! I didn't even touch on anything by my other faves (Kristen Heitzmann, Shirley Tallman, Julie Klassen, Stephanie Bond, Nancy Atherton, Anthony Horowitz...gee, I think I read too much!!!!

I picked up Little Heathens today and The Shack, and the memoir by Bill Bryson (which looks funny). My daughter just got me The Gravedigger's Daughter by Joyce Carol Oates, so I will be set for a while. Of course, I am slowly reading the MJF magazine and the Outpost book (hate them to go by too fast). I also read The Small Farm Journal which is always, always enlightening and well-done.

In 3 days I read both Jon Katz'z "A Good Dog" (cried so hard I couldn't see for half an hour) and "Dog Days: Dispatches from Bedlam Farm." I'm trying to be a better human for my herding dogs who have multiple issues, so look to him for inspiraiton and guidance. I also picked up "The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein. Since we are in the dogs days of summer, I thought it most fitting to read dog lit through to 8/11.
