Hey Ladies!
Have you seen the FANTASTIC work that MaryJane and Carol have done recently? They have a bunch of pages set up about farmgirl sisterhood and even a beginning list of the Farmgirl Sisterhood Members!!

Alee, you are so humble. Gals, Alee helped big-time--coming up with the descriptions for the merit badges along with help from Beth. Sunny pushed and pulled as well. Janet and Meg worked on badges. And farmboy Gabe, he's still here tying up all the computer loose ends. I am so thankful for such an amazing team. Not to mention, local chapter leader Jeanette Johnston who brought out the best homemade pie today I've ever eaten. I'm serious, she is THE master pie builder. I was asked to be on a panel of judges recently for a local peach pie making contest and she took second place.
Now, onto some pie and merry making. Have a wonderful and THANKFUL Thanksgiving.
MaryJane
P.S. There are still plenty of loose ends, like the designs for the merit badges, etc. but we'll get back in the saddle on Monday. This has taken hundreds of farmgirl hours. Now there's a merit badge in the making! |

Oh thank you ladies. Beth helped a lot and I got tons of input from many people. I think it is truly a Farmgirl cooperative effort!
I hope we all have as much fun doing the merit badges as I have had thinking them up! And don't the pages look amazing? Everyone out at the farm leaves me speechless! I can't believe how talented everyone is.

You girls deserve the special trail blazers badge of service beyond the call of duty AND an extra slice of pie I'm reading through the merit badges and seeing which ones I'll be able to work on. This is fun. Come on, I can't be the only one too excited to sleep about this????

I have a question already...you guys are gonna have to get used to this, I always have one more question I have a denim duster coat that I like to wear a lot and so it will get my first patch and likely others if I earn them. I'm about to gussy it up anyway, but I AM planning on a real honest to goodness denim jacket when I find one that I like. How do I go about getting a second patch for it once I have it?

Morning Annika!
We'd already planned on selling additional membership badges but we don't have them priced yet. (Sunny needs to run the numbers one more time.) We'll let you know the details ASAP. (I have more than one coat too!) BTW, you might check our local Goodwill for denim jackets. I went there looking for wool sweaters recently for felting and saw entire racks of classy-looking denim jackets. It was a goldmine!
Here are the details on our badges. We wanted to print them on a super fine sateen cotton weave so the ink stayed put (or rather our Henrietta stayed put). Imperfections in the fabric or using a weave like muslin that was too thick didn't give us the look we were after. Add to that the fact that we wanted ORGANIC cotton and the price went through the roof. I was able to get a huge roll of organic cotton (six feet wide) shipped from overseas but cutting it into manageable pieces for the print shop takes some doin' (labor). On top of that, we have to wash and dry all of it in manageable pieces so there won't be any shrinkage and that takes some doin' too. Then it has to be ironed before it gets printed and then afterwards the fabric has to be cut into individual 9 x 8 inch pieces and put into envelopes for mailing!! Phew.
I'm thinking we're going to come in around $9 for replacement badges. I can't wait to bump into you somewhere (since I don't think I've met you) and have us recognize each other by our badges!!!
So, stay tuned.
MaryJane
P.S. I'll bet I'm not the only farmgal enjoying pumpkin pie for breakfast? I'm eating one that April made using hemp milk instead of dairy and rice flour instead of wheat for the crust. Gluten and dairy-free. Divine.
Look for my new book, "MaryJane's Stitching Room," in bookstores now. Coming next in 2008: "MaryJane's Outpost Guidebook - for Cultivating Your Inner Wild." |

Yep, pumpkin pie for breakfast here too! After all, it is a vegetable (or are pumpkins considered fruit?!) Anyway, mine isn't nearly as healthy as yours . . . stuck to the traditional crust, which I may as well just smear all over my thighs, since that's where it will land eventually. LOL!
MaryJane, thanks for all your work and to all the team at MJF thank you!
Hope everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving!
Hugs & blessings,
Brenda

Yay! I was able to sign up for the Farmgirl sisterhood over the phone. Looking forward to getting the other stuff I ordered in the mail.
My aunt made a 'sugarless' butterscotch pie for me the other night when we had early Thanksgiving at her place. She sent the leftover pie home with me and I ate it for breakfast the next day. Some good stuff!
