Well, guess what? It's been I don't know how long since I got my treadle and today I brought it out and started cleaning 'er up. I have to go back and read this thread so I can find out what you all used to clean them with. But I am going to set time aside, now that my room additions are done and the house is mostly back to normal, and get to learning how to use this. I have to learn how to thread that bobbin and the machine and I think I'll be all set. Everyone else still putting their's to good use?

Denise, I need to learn also. Mine just sits here(it was my husbands grandmothers wedding gift). I remember sewing on it when we first got married but I havent even tried sewing on it in over 29 yrs (I am guessing). I am sure I have forgotten how. Never thought about the girls here helping me. Too busy right now, but this winter I will sure give it a try.

every tieme i think of a treadle machine i want to cry. i had my grandmothers which was inaa beautiful cabinet with all available attachments and thru movign i lost it! we have my mil's machine and hopefully it is still in our home in ga. its in pretty bad shape but has sentimental value. we have left it becasue we didnt have room to bring it wiht us and we have the house rented out. i wonder if it will ever get back to us?? i really miss using one even tho its been years. the singer has such a beautiful stich! peace connie in alaska |

Maggie, where are you in Iowa? I have a treadle I am willing to trade. Its listed under the barter section. It does need some work. I go up toward Iowa on occation. My Inlaws live just S of the state on I 35 and my Aunt and Uncle are just over the border.

Where does everyone get their parts or pieces for the treadles? I need to get some more bobbins for mine. Can anyone direct me? Thanks!

This is a great thread.
I learned to sew on a Singer treadle and had such a hard time when using the electric version for the first time.
Would like to have a treadle again. Maybe it's time to start looking while they are still out there.
Did anyone have a toy sewing machine as a child? Quite the collectible now.

yes, i have them coming out my ears. i love treadles, i love sewing on treadles, i love everything about them. I have one left to get going, but havent even bothered because i am sure she is an easy one. they are so nice to try to get along with, very easy mechanics to work with and all the parts an pieces seem to be found just when u need em. Bonne is very organized and has all the instructional links at her fingertips, i usually just search again to find what i need. good luck to you, there are tons available just keep your eyes peeled and sniff one out to take home. For $100 you should be able to get a pristine one.

We have a catalog that is Mennonite owned and they have belts for non electric sewing machines. They actually use the electric ones but as a treadle. Not sure how they do that though.
Bonne, It is the bullet shaped thing for the bobbin. a shuttle I guess? I'm checking out the links you posted. thanks.

I know treadle belts at Stitches in Time are leather, as she writes in her descriptions.

Thanks Bonne, I am going to get some from stitches in time. You are just a wealth of information! What would we do without you, well I know I'd be lost on this treadlin thing that's for sure. you inspired me to bid on that first one and once I get this going I'll probably be searching out more.
