I talked to my mom on the phone last night (she is in CA) and happened to mention that I could use any bias tape that she had from either of my grandmas if she weren't going to need it. She said she had a box of it she would send and then ..........she said" and hey, there are a bunch of old buttons if you want those too" so..hooray..I will be getting an additon to my collection!! I know these are from my dad's mom since the other grandma..the one I was closer to, gave me her button box before she died. This grandma lived in the house my mom lives in now and so my mom has alot of her old things, since she only had two sons,(my dad was the oldest) and my mom and dad took care of her for the last 10 years or so of her life. I am anxious to see the buttons!!!

Hello ladies!

I just joined "The Button Gluttons" and am getting ready to send out buttons to all of you in the next few days. My button collection is new. I found a really neat tin can at a yard sale that is decorated with buttons and sewing prints all over it. Cutest can I had ever saw! It was obvious that it was meant to hold buttons so I started putting buttons in it a few years ago. I don't have many buttons, but I'm anxious to grow my collection!

I would like to send a button to everyone to get started. After that, do you send a button to everyone every so often or do you just send to one person. How does this work?

This is the email I recieved from Karen when I asked this same question.
quote:
just go to the list-you can do the name directly above yours, a couple of names or everybody-it's really up to you. but try and send to someone at least once a month.

some of the girls send a little note or picture-whatever you want.

remember to write or say "hand cancel" on your envelopes so they don't go through the sorting machines-really hard on our sweet buttons!

let me know if i can help or if you need anything. again-welcome button friend!

talk to you soon-karen

We will be mailing out on Tuesday..we will have time to get stuff together over the long weekend. They made little jars with painted lids for keeping their little collections in and are really into it. They want to go to thrift stores and look for new old buttons and even clothes to cut buttons off of...I love it!!! Thanks so much!! You are a doll.

Let's take a TIME OUT, girls, and hang loose until further instructions arrive from the farm on the protocol of the list keeping... everyone take a deep breath. Thank you.

Bridgette, Lori and Karen, I have received all your buttons and am so embarrased that I haven't sent mine out yet - plan to get them together this weekend. Thank you all! They are great! Only one broken one in the bunch. Now that the mailing list is here, how do we view a current list? I had printed it out when Karen sent it, but don't know how many others have signed up. I'm sorry if it's a dumb question...

I must apologize,
I am also slow at sending my buttons out but wanted to give some feedback on sending "Hand Cancel". I am not sure this is enough security as two of my three arrivals have had broken buttons in them. I'm talking REALLY crunched.
I think I am going to send my selections wrapped first in a paper towel and then in a small bubble envelope.Maybe that might protect them......should I still ask for "hand cancel"?

Maybe also writing "fragile" on the front and back of the envelope will help? Worth a try!

I think the bubble wrap is a good idea and you can make a small pouch without it taking up too much room - one of my senders did that and it still fit in an envelope. I will do that because so much of the mail service is machine operated, I fear that even if we write "hand cancel" on the envelope, I don't know that they will actually do it...

By the way, Susan, I wish I lived closer to PA so I could visit your farm! I think I will do all my Christmas shopping from farmgirls' websites!

I didn't read the whole thread but I just got a cool idea for using buttons! I don't collect them (I actually don't collect much of anything, yet) but now I want to find a whole bunch for this Christmas.

I want to find some good cardstock paper with a little texture, cut it in half and fold it in half again, and stitch or glue buttons on the front of the card in the shape of a Christmas tree, or a star, or an angel and send them as our cards this year.

I also wrap my gifts in simple butcher's paper and splurge on things like ribbon & trinkets to dress it up. But it would also be cool to glue some buttons on the front of the package too.

Thanks for the inspiration!

hey lynn-

i'm trying to straighten up my office and reduce my stuff-i have quite a few buttons that would be perfect for your projects-i'm trying to concentrate on vintage and these are ones i've bought in jars of buttons and picked through-nothing wrong with them but just not what i'm collecting at the moment.

i could probably come up with a hundred or so easy. are you interested and would you have anything you'd like to trade?

talk to you soon. karen

one of the cutest christmas cards I ever recieved was one from my cousin (she didn't make them, but they could be easily) that was a small powder blue card with a little snowman on the front..with one big white button and one small flat white button one on top of the other..for his body..and an embroidery floss "scarf". It was very simple..just said warm wishes on the front was blank inside...cute cute cute.

Hi -- Go to www.google.com and then type in your search words and go. I typed in the words 'embroidery pattern southern belle' and found quite a few sites with the pattern available -- very pretty patterns! Hope this helps.

I just found the cutest wall clock idea on the Martha Stewart web site under button crafts using what else Buttons! I've never been moved to make a wall clock before but this is just adorable and I can see it hanging in a country kitchen with aprons near by. Or for that matter it would look great in a craft room as well!
