Wow great projects are being made. The organizers are wonderful. The kids quilts are amazing. Krista how many blocks do you have to go? Vanessa I thought you had said sewing time, not swearing time- oh my gosh hahahahaha. You need a quilt wall to lay out your quilt pieces. I had made a small one. I am not sure what the stuff is called, got it at wally world, but it is stiff and light weight. Then I took batting and glued to it and hot glued on a binding around the edges. Your cloth pieces will sit there and not move around and you can take your board right to your sewing machine. I think I found the board in the paper section of the store.

Felt is the fabric used to make a quilt board.

Can't remember who suggested it but I got Patty Lyon's Knitting Bag of Tricks book and workbook and am working through the exercises. heard a podcaster say that it was what they hoped the Master Knitting program would have been. So far through the first section and been interesting (and fun) process!

A quilt board can easily be made with a vinyl tablecloth with a felt backing. Staple it to the wall or hang it somehow and you are ready to put fabric pieces on it.

Michele, I have 8 more blocks to go. If I can keep up my pace of finishing one a month then I will be done this year.

Hagrid looks great!

Judith - if you're checking in I've been doing a lot of cutting on some very small squares :)

There are 99 little squares in that pile next to my hand! I've started making the blocks but I haven't gotten very far yet. It's very different from the sewing I'm used to doing, but so far it's fun.

Love Hagrid!

Heather -- watch out; those little squares can be addictive! I found that after sewing with the small pieces for a while my accuracy really improved on the bigger blocks.

WOW! Heather! What blocks are you making with those teenity squares? I prefer larger squares.

I have been working on UFOs - I have so many I have to! Some of the UFOs are farther along but not yet completed. LOL! Progress little by little helps sometimes see where you are.

- I made 80 blocks from a Christmas jelly roll to make the Jiffy Jelly Roll quilt (free pattern).
- I sewed together the 20 blocks I received from the block swap in my Scrappy Strippers Quilt group - it was my pattern for a star using selvages that I provided (I have a ton of them and love making selvage projects). Now I need to find a border fabric and get it to a quilter. This may take longer - my main longarm quilter just broke both bones in her lower leg - the one above her ankle and the other below her knee. UGH!

I will take pictures and add them in a day or 2.

I also am dealing with getting 2 more sewing machines in cabinets opened up so they are at the ready. I am trying to decide if where I think they will work will work or if I need to rearrange my room - again. And when you do all the scrappy projects I like to do the floor is always covered with small threads that need to be vacuumed. LOL! The house suffers, but I try to keep my sewing room vacuumed up.

I'm making one of Judith's mini quilts. Her wonderful creations inspired me to give it a try and use up some of my scraps. I started with a Christmas one that will hang in my bedroom. I was nervous of things not lining up right - I'm not an experienced quilter - so I thought a project for myself would be a good place to start. After some practice maybe I'll make more for others. It's a lot of starting and stopping, but so far I'm enjoying it. I have the little squares all made into blocks (I think they're just called 9-patch) and I have the rectangles sewn into 2 strips. Now I just need another sewing day to put it together!

Heather, that sounds really neat! I can't wait to see what it looks like when you finish. I bet all those tiny squares are not the easiest thing to work with.

Linda - I was gifted a pattern book. Judith was so close! The squares are 1 1/4 inches.
Here's what the pattern looks like:

Can't wait to see the pictures of your quilt blocks - you make some beautiful quitls!

Heather I love the mini quilt pattern!! Have fun in making it. It is all about precision when cutting, and sewing to get it all to line up. And slowing down, helps me anyways. The more you practice the better you will get. Enjoy the process and your creations.
