I have started this new thread to replace the old one which was just too full.

Here is something I'm working on.

I'm using fabric from the fabric swaps.

Heather, if you make the pillow, I would love to see it!

Linda, you have been super busy! You will be finished before you know it.

Krista - that's a great idea! I bet I have some ribbon around here I could try to use as a belt. If not I'm sure the thrift store will have a black belt.

Linda - I hope lemon juice and sunshine does the trick!

Judith - that's so wonderful that you finished your mom's project. What a great memory piece!

Thanks Judith and Marie! I was able to get it ironed and finished. It wasn't as intimidating as I thought it would be and it ironed perfectly. My project may be a tiny bit slanted, but hey, it looks good for my first bookmark!

Wait for the sunshine -- I did it on a 100+ day.

That's what I was wondering about multiple applications. Amazing what lemon juice can get out. I will try that - maybe not today since it is very overcast right now. May clear up later.

Right now they look like pale reddish shadows under the fish and over the lure. I wish they were blue. LOL!

Several applications of lemon juice and sunshine removed most of the rust stains from my mother's embroidery hoop on a piece she had started about 1980 and got put away when she couldn't work on it anymore. I found it about 2010 and wanted to finish it. The lemon juice and hot sun removed most of the rust; if you look close you can see a shadow of it. Adds to the charm and memories.

Today I am so mad at myself. I have a cross-stitch picture my mother made in 1986 and it had some spots on the background fabric so I sprayed with Spray and Wash and rinsed it out by hand. I laid it on a towel to air-dry and when I went back to see how it was drying I saw that the red threads had bled pretty badly. I've tried a stain removed waxy stick I have and it seemed to get some of the bleed out, but not all. I will try putting in the sun tomorrow maybe with a little lemon juice. Today's threads do not bleed like that, at least I didn't think so; I guess they weren't made the same way back in the 80s.

Does anyone have any other ideas to try? This has only been air drying; I have not used any heat on it. The red is the only color embroidery threads that bled.

Yes, put a piece of muslin or other cotton cloth over it to iron it. This will protect the stitching. Lay it backside up so the stitching isn't crushed especially if there are stitches with texture. This will also protect any metallic threads used.

Krista -- what kind of fabric is the cross stitch done on? I've cross stitched on cotton and linen and ironed both using a cover cloth.

I am trying to finish up a cross stitch bookmark. I completed all the actual cross stitch but now I need to follow the instructions on how to hook the front and back together. It wants me to iron it as well. I have never ironed cross stitch before. It makes me a little nervous. But I am excited to finally have the bookmark done and be able to use it!

Thank you Nancy for the sweet compliment!

Heather, your Santa looks great! You know you could always do a solid red for the back panel and make it into a pillow and then hook a real belt around it! You are doing great with these corner to corners.

Judith and Grace - I'd be happy to be adopted LOL! I only have 2 sewing machines and one serger. And one of the sewing machines and the serger are "on loan" from my mother in law since she hasn't used them in years. None of them are vintage.

Krista - I love seeing your Harry Potter squares. Can't wait to see them all put together!

Here's the santa malfunction I mentioned a while ago:

I changed the pattern a bit - it had a white boarder all the way around it. In doing so I messed up the belt buckle and forgot to start the belt again. There were so many cut and tied pieces for the belt buckle that once I realized my mistake I wasn't going to go back and redo it!

So pretty, Krista! Your stitching is so nice and even. I love seeing such fine work. My Nanie always told me that if I was going to spend time working on a project that I had better do my absolute best work! You have definitely followed her rule!

Yesterday I finally finished another corner to corner. This one will need some fixing when I sew in the ends to make the image connect better. I can't wait for all of these to be finished.

Judith, I two had well over 2 dozen vintage machines, at one time, I sold a few, and gave a few away..

Sadly neither my daughter nor my 2 granddaughters are interested in sewing.. and I have no female cousins that are interested either..
Alas, when I go to that big crafting room in the sky, I will have to hope all my machines will be rescued by happy homes...

Judith, your sewing room is like a wonderful museum. What an amazing and interesting collections of sewing machines you have gathered! I wish I could see it all in person and learn a bit about when they were used and how they work.

OK, Judith, you win. I do have a few more than mentioned above - 2 Singer 128s, 3 singers, a Gimbel, 3 or 4 toy sewing machines, a second serger, a 3rd Singer 301, and a Brother. LOL! The 128s are both in Coffin Covers. LOL!

It all started with one handcrank machine I found at the street fair for $35. It was like Cheetos, I couldn't just have one. While I was on a three week cruise with a friend DH built the shelves and painted the room. Antique and vintage machines are fascinating and it has been fun learning about them but it is now time to part with some as my children have no interest in them. They are fun to use and I have made a dozen or so quilt tops with the handcranks and quilted several on the treadles.

Oh Judith,, I showed this photo to my hubby (of your sewing studio) He rolled his eyes and said, I could never keep mine this tidy! LOL!

I do not have a 'coffin case' cover but I do have one like your semi round cover, (rt side, middle shelf)..

It's funny, I too go back and forth between my cheapo Brother machine, my Feather Weight and my Singer 301...
It depends on what I am doing...
