I feel that way about my city. I just plan my days for the less busy times. :) It’s exhausting to do errands especially when it’s so very hot. I think the heat may vert well bring out the crabbiness in people. :)

I do the same thing Karen, Plan for the slowest day of the week, go early in the morning and make sure I am done before schools before out and businesses are closing for the day.
After a couple of months of cooler than normal weather, our days will be heating up to the 90’s this week with high humidity. Today is our last cool day, so I am mowing the lawn, finishing up the weeding in my garden, picking the produce that is ready and planning on hunkering down in my craft room to play with fall fabric.
I will catch everyone on the porch tomorrow for a glass of lemonade.

A little rain can straighten a flower stem. A little love can change a life.

Happy Monday!

I'm back from my travels last week. Christmas in July is set up at our booth in Tyler and we had some fun at the thrift stores and estate sales. Here's a picture of our little space.

My favorite find was a set of the Wise Men - we had a similar set when I was growing up and I have no idea what happened to them. These aren't quite like the ones we had but I love the memory so I picked them up.

Happy to back on the porch with you all - it's hot and muggy here so a glass of lemonade sounds wonderful!

I love your booth and those wise men are beautiful! Are the tops of their hats hollowed out for a candle? My mom had some small ones that were like that.

Yes - they are candlesticks. I remember that the ones we had growing up were more golden but these are the closest I've found.

I keep seeing posts on social media about how many days/Fridays/etc. we have until fall. It seems like the summer is just flying by - and I will admit I'm already looking forward to fall and Christmas.

Happy porch sitting :) I'll be enjoying some herbal tea as the sun sets.

Laura - love your booth! I've been brainstorming Christmas gift ideas already :)

I've been a busy little bee today. In between milkings I picked, cleaned, and canned a dozen pints of green beans and 7 quarts of pickles. I peeled and sliced half a box of peaches to fill up the dehydrator that's still running right now. I also managed to read a chapter in the calligraphy book for the badge requirement and I baked a pan of brownies. So help yourself to one while I finish up supper (cheeseburgers and homemade french fries). I think I'm going to see if I can talk Nathan into watching a Christmas movie tonight. Halmark is doing Christmas in July :)

Haha! I've tried to get Brad onboard with Hallmark Christmas in July...he couldn't do it! haha He said it seemed weird to watch a snowy movie when it was 100 degrees outside. I said it would take his mind off of the heat . I think they're fun. Our temps are finally going to cool off after several weeks of 95+ everyday. Makes for great harvesting weather, though. Only a couple more days and grass seed harvest will be finished! Yeah! We have a new highschool boy working for us this summer. His grandpa and Brad went to school together...his mom was in our son's class. One of the fun perks of living in a small town. He's only going to be a freshman and he's already close to 6'5"...crazy!!!
Our county fair is this weekend. I'm not sure if I'm going to make it there this year. We usually go to the livestock auction on Saturday night but we have Brad's class reunion to go to that night.
I'm off to get some more done on a quilt top that I'm putting together. I want to get it finished by Thursday so that I can take it to the quilter when I pick up the other one she just finished for me. I really don't know what I was thinking...it has 111 6" blocks...ugh! It's all laid out and about 1/3 of the way sewn together. A good project to work on when it's too hot outside. Have a good day, everyone!

Laura I love your Christmas in July booth, the wood German Pyramid on the top shelf is so cute. It looks German anyway. I collect them so I am always on the look out for them. I spotted that one right away, such a special German decoration Germany.
Your 3 King Candle Holders are so pretty and will add to your Christmas display.
Our weather has cooled a bit if that is possible as it really has not been that warm here Looking forward to going to the beach the next few days.
Have a beautiful day Wildflowers.

Big Hugs,
Debbie

I'm lucky that Nathan loves Christmas as much as I do. He's all for a Christmas movie no matter what the weather is. This time it just meant I was making cookies at 10:30pm again LOL! (Can't have a Christmas movie without some cookies and a cocoa!) Luckily we work hard enough that eating sugar that late doesn't keep us up :)

Debbie - do you just combine the grass or do you swath it first? When you mentioned before that you're a "grass farmer" now I just thought you made hay. It never crossed my mind that you harvest grass seed! That's not something that's done around here. I can't wait to see your quilt. It sounds intimidating but you make such wonderful things I bet it's beautiful :)

Denise - have you been getting any rain the last couple days? It seems to be going south of us. We had some wind and thunder last night but no rain.

Debbie F - enjoy your beach time, I know how much you love it! One day I'd love to see the ocean. Maybe stick my feet in.

Yes, it's swathed first and then ran through the combine. Then we bale the straw into big 3x4 bales. We put up 2000 ton of hay this year...a bumper crop! We finished the other day and it's all been taken into the seed plant in town. Next up is some rye and then onto the pinto beans.

We got the thunder and rain with it. I'm grateful for the rain. Makes the grass grow and need mowing but it makes my flowers grow too!
I don't do much baking anymore. A friend picked up some peaches for us so I'll be making peach cobbler in return for them going to get them for us.

Denise - Peach cobbler is always good, I bet they'll appreciate that! Would you send some of that rain up here? Judging by the way the radar looked earlier today you got some more rain down your way. Yesterday evening I was sure we were going to get some. Storm clouds rolled in with thunder and lightning, some wind and cooler temps, and they just rolled on by. We did get a little afterwards (about 0.2") but when those clouds let loose they got 3.6"!!! We got nothing again today except some thunder and wind.

Debbie K - That's a lot of hay!! If it's not too much trouble could you post a picture of your pinto beans? I'd love to see how they compare to soybeans (that's what's grown around here).

Debbie F - I hope you had a fantastic walk at the beach today! I'm excited to see the photos from your get together!

No trouble at all! I will get over there this weekend and get some pictures. This is our first year growing them and it's been fun having a new crop in the field. Everything else is brown and dried up but the bean fields are nice and green! The little grandgirls were eating them out of the field the other day.

I have a raccoon that hides under our grill and cover on our deck. I heard something rattling out there and realized something was getting into the little can that holds the drippings. When he heard me open the door he popped his head from under there and just stared at me. When I told him it was time to go he waddled on off the side of the porch. They can't get into the trash so I'm not sure how he happened to come around this way.

UGH! Raccoons are my worst pest! They tear up everything here!!! They shred the wrap on our baleage, make nests out of our straw bales, tear all the pears from the tree before they're ripe so I don't get any this year. They're working on the apples. They broke the blackberry canes (I think that's what they're called) getting at the berries. They take a couple bites out of any tomato that's thinking of turning red. I think they're also the reason a lot of our kittens have gone missing. I HATE those things. And this year they are terrible around here. It's a bumper crop of coons for us LOL!

Thanks for the pictures Debbie. Up close they look like the green beans in the garden. The field of them pretty much looks like a soybean field. Guess since they're closely related they look alike :) I love the view of the mountains in your picture!!! Is it unusually dry this year that everything is brown or is it normal this time of year?

We had a raccoon I believe that was coming on our deck but sadly he has not been around. I think the bear roaming around got him and our neighbors little dog:-( Nature and Wildlife are cruel sometimes.
Heather we never get our cherries because of the crows, but we do get our apples and Blackberries. Some of our Blackberries are in so we will start picking them tomorrow.

I’m grabbing some lemonade and a magazine and gonna sit on the porch for a bit! :) Tomorrow morning is my C/T scan of my head. It will be my 1 year check up scan! :) I can’t believe it’s been almost a year (8/18) since my craniotomy! It’s so crazy how time flies. I’m a bit reflective…I’m so thankful for each and everyone here who prayed for John and I during a very scaring time for us. I’m beyond blessed to have you all in my life. Our time here on earth so so short and I’m very thankful too for having an incredible family and friend base close to me! Thankful for my relationship with John and the journey we’ve been on in the last year. We will be heading to a church camp about three hours from home for a weekend of volunteering together. I’m looking forward to cooler mountain temperatures and evening temps in the 50s (beats 75-80 here at home!!). And then will celebrate our 36th wedding anniversary on Tuesday! Thank you my sweet, dear farm sisters for all the prayers and support. I love each of you!! :)

Karen :)

Yes, we are just getting cabin fever, lol. Surprisingly the winds were not more than a typical thunderstorm, but we have gotten twelve inches of rain this week. Today the rain swells keep coming in and out, maybe tomorrow we will finally see sunshine.

A day hemmed in prayer is less likely to unravel.
