Hope everyone has had a lovely weekend. I'm going to make myself a cup of tea and "sit" on the porch for a bit. What have y'all been up to?

I've been cross stitching up a storm this weekend at an online Harry Potter retreat hosted by Black Needle Society. Lots of fun and so much stitching. I finished up a few projects and made good progress on a few others.

I'm heading out tomorrow to Tyler. My friend and I share booth space at Ye Olde City Antique Mall and we are going to put out Christmas in July this week. I do love vintage Christmas - sometimes it's hard for me to part with the treasures I find. We might also hit a couple thrift stores and estate sales :)

Wishing y'all a great week!

Laura, your Cross online class sounds fun. I love Harry Potter so you need to share photos of your finished projects with us.
Have a great time with your friend and Christmas in July.

Good Morning my fellow porch sitters. It is a cooler morning here for sitting on the porch. We had a bad storm overnight and inch of rain and ping pong ball size hail. Many of my flowers are broken and sad looking and I haven’t ventured to the garden yet to inspect the damage. Keith just left to check fields. Yesterday I picked an ice cream bucket of raspberries. I made an angel food cake to serve with them so if anyone would like a slice of summer to go with you coffee help yourself.

Today I will clean up weather damage in the gardens and I have raspberry juice in the fridge to can raspberry syrup. I also need to change the oil in my freeze dryer so I can dry some cabbage.

Have a lovely day.

A little rain can straighten a flower stem. A little love can change a life.

Oh, wow, Julie! I hope it’s not too bad! What kind of freeze dryer do you have? And how do you use dried cabbage? I put some of your raspberries in my morning yogurt…thank you!

Debbie dried cabbage is wonderful in soups, stew and hot dishes. I throw handfuls of dries right into the soup pot and i rehydrate it add to fried hamburger with rice, onions and canned tomatoes and a little tomato paste and you have a yummy casserole. There are so many ways to use it. I need to pick raspberries again this afternoon, it is a daily chore. Lucky they were up against a building that hail didn’t hit.

I have a bucket of blackberries that I picked today, half a box of peaches that need to go into the dehydrator, green beans that need picked and canned, I'm sure there are some cucumbers ready as well. With all the garden work and the farm work I'm worn out so I'm just going to sit on the porch and enjoy some of that raspberry angel food cake. Thanks Julie. I hope your garden is alright. This weather sure has been something this year!

Laura - I hope you're having a fun trip. Christmas in July sounds wonderful!

I think it was Debbie that mentioned planting some alfalfa. Strictly medicinal seeds has small packets for sale (rather than the big 50 pound bags we get to plant LOL!) They actually have a bunch of herb seeds. I was planning to order some things but I never got around to it. I highly recommend requesting a catalog! I believe they're out of Oregon.

Funny little story that happened tonight. We had a new calf born yesterday and this morning he was separated from his mama. Tonight was the first time I fed him instead of mama. He came running right over to the gate and I thought he was going to be friendly like his mama. I reached in and just put a finger on his nose. He ran to the opposite corner of the pen. It's normal for them to be scared the first time you mess with them until they realize you have their milk. Then they usually become your best friend LOL! I'm used to the calves running and having to catch them to show them that it's OK. Sometimes they fight, sometimes they don't. This guy however was going to show me who the boss was! As soon as I got in the pen he put his little head down and charged into my knees and when he hit them he started hollering and just kept plowing into me! When I pushed his head off my knee, told him that was enough of that, and tried to pick up his bottle that I dropped he put his nose through the gate and started hollering again and trying to jump though it (there was no way he would fit more than his nose through the hole!) When I finally got the bottle in his mouth he just bit the nipple and stared at me for a few minutes. Finally his hunger won and he decided he'd drink his supper. I really hope there's not a repeat performance in the morning!! Ornery little booger!!!!!

Well, now that I've sat for a bit I better get supper finished up. Good night everyone :)

You won’t be disappointed Debbie. We had appointments in the big city yesterday and did a big Costco shop, sporting goods store and farm store stock ups and I am exhausted today. It is more a mental exhaustion than physical, all those people and traffic. Does anybody else feel that way after a city visit? I will enjoy a quiet day at home. Porch sitting, iced tea drinking and a big piece of the peach-bing cherry crisp with fresh whipped cream I made this morning. I would love for you all to join me. I picked an ice cream bucket of raspberries this morning that I think I will turn into raspberry vinegar for winter salads. To be honest, I am really getting sick of raspberries.

A little rain can straighten a flower stem. A little love can change a life.

Sitting here on the porch this morning having my coffee wondering if you have any special plans this weekend?
Our plans will be fun. Saturday is the Vintage Antique Market and vintage boat show at the lake where the guys took me for my birthday. The weather will be wonderful so it will be so much fun. Today though we are going shopping for family room furniture. We want a sectional for our the room as there will be more spaces for folks to sit. We have our new great grand nephew Wally who is now 7 month months and his parents coming the end of September for a week. And our Neice Erin will be moving from Denver to Oregon in October. She has decided to stay we us until she decides which city she will live and then get her an apartment.
So we will have a busy.
Here is a picture of Wally all smiles, we think he will be crawling by the time they get here.
Enjoy your weekend’s Wildflowers.

Big Hugs,
Debbie

I feel the same way, Julie! Our big city is about an hour south of us. I remember when it used to be a fun day out but now it's just exhausting! SO much traffic and so many people! Even if you only have a couple of stops it seems to take all day. You have to be on constant alert driving so that you don't get in an accident...mental exhaustion, for sure. I'd much rather be home where it's quiet!
