Our azaleas should be in bloom soon. We have lots of buds. Mine are small as they planted them in a poor spot for sun.

Linda, my oldest sister, Penny, lived in west Plano before moving to Lucas. She grew white azaleas in raised beds around her swimming pool. They were planted in peat moss without soil and they thrived.

I bet that was beautiful Sara. We have a white one that is just inside the woods and it has grown quite large. Beautiful when it blooms. I don't know who planted it there. The azaleas were all here when we moved here. As were the daffodils and some tulips. The rest we put in .

I've never grown azaleas, but was told long ago that in Texas you must grow them in peat moss.

Marilyn I've heard that too. May not apply to east & northeast Texas where we have a lot of pine trees and the soil may be on the acid side. Haven't tested my soil but my neighbor to the west of me has beautiful azaleas and the house east of me and across the street have huge pine trees. You ever been to the piney woods in east Texas? They are something to see.

My brother was sent, by Southwestern Bell, to Sulphur Springs, in the mid 1970s. Beautiful area. That is where I saw hay stacks! They cut or mowed the right of way, and made hay stacks in the middle of the four lanes of interstate. Then he was sent to Arkansas to fix a mess there, then back to Eastern Texas...Kilgore. From there he was sent to Port Arthur to fix another mess, but chose to live in Orange. Trips to visit, took us through the tall pines, where we saw logging trucks, white cow birds and I discovered that they use sea shells as road base like we use kaliche. We were introduced to fire ants there.
So yes I have visited the great piney woods of East Texas.
I've also visited the piney woods of Wisconsin, very near Lake Superior. Although up there they are farms where they grow, cut, replant and repeat, so we can have all of those things made from trees.

I love The piney woods. We’ve been through them a lot. I like camping there in the motorhome.

I went this morning to buy a battery for my new to me truck. I bought it from my son. It has just been sitting here for a couple years and I told my husband that I wanted to buy it to use for when I need to get feed and things I can't really fit into my car. So the battery needed replaced as well as a couple other things, but he gave it to me for a good price since it needed work. Minor but he is happy to be done with it and I am happy to have it. What farmgirl isn't happy to have her own truck?? LOL.

Trucks are so useful, they are just too high for mr to get into.

This isn't a big truck Darlene. Just a small one for me to use for things around here.

When Tristons granddad passed away last summer the litte truck his granddad was driving became Tristons. It was a 1990 model, that Tristan bought used. Then when he wanted a cool camero, his granddad took his truck. Now it has died. I don't know what is wrong with it. She has the white car to drive to school. He drives the hot rod.

I have always thought a little truck would be perfect for my needs.
One day I stopped them on the road...I was shocked that the dash was all to pieces, duct taped and about to fall off. That is when Triston told me how old it is. The body is mite near perfect tho.

They sure are Darlene and that's what I'll be using it for too. We have so much that we can use that little truck for. It needs some fixing up. Bought a new battery and ordered a few other parts for it.

Good Friday morning ladies! April is slipping away!
May is on the way!
A word of caution, watch for insects and spiders out doors.
He sure to turn your lawn chairs upside down and check for them.
I was bitten by a spider a week or so ago. I did not see it but having about 8 itchy bumps in a small area is a good sign. I used some anti itch cream a few times and they are gone...But the venom really does a number on me. I think I feel better this morning than I have.
Today is supposed to be a sorting day, of course that has been the plan for a week. I guess I could say sort or close your eyes and toss. I also need to shred a bunch of stuff.

Oh I almost forgot, you probably know this, but, you need to keep some current bills to prove where you live. We only have an electric bill. Then of course you need your DL, your Social Security card, a credit card, a passport if you have one...(something with your picture on it) to prove you are you. In this digital age anyone can say they are someone else. Your birth certificate is another item. This is not the pretty one from the hospital. You must either go to the county you were born in or write to them, asking them to make you an official copy. You also must prove who you are. It has a cost also.

Marilyn take care with your spider bite. I remember about 20 years ago when Texas went through the brown recluse scare.

Have fun sorting, tossing, and slimming down your home. Several times a year I walk through my house with a large trash bag looking for things I have hung on to that I shouldn't. Cottage cheese containers; pasta sauce & mustard jars; magazines that I have cut out so many articles that I can't pass them on; you get the idea of the kind of things I let pile up. I keep plastic containers and jars I know I will use or someone else may want but I don't need to keep everything that comes into my house.

I'm tired from my visit yesterday so I'll piddle. Hope to work on bee skep pillow.

Sara, take it easy today and rest up.

Marilyn, you are right about the insects. I have seen quite an amount of spiders this year but none of them harmful. I had to laugh yesterday watching my hens. They kept jumping up in the air catching bugs. LOL.

While sitting here writing this I felt something crawling and lo and behold another tick. I was out on the front porch sweeping this morning. Ugh! I've got the lint roller handy but didn't think just being on the porch would be a problem.

Denise, so glad you found that tick before it buried in to bite! It is distressing that they seem to be overly abundant in your immediate yard area.

Sara, enjoy your day of rest and piddling! We all need days like that to just regroup our energy.

Yes Winnie I am not a fan but i think it came from the grass being high in the front and when JT mowed, the little beast got thrown onto the porch. I'm thinking thats how it got there.
Thankfully most times I feel them crawling or catch them before they are attached too long.

I am always feeling creepy crawlies - whether they are there or not. LOL!

Today I scored at an estate sale at a friend's house. She is moving around the corner and is getting rid of over half her stuff. I commmend her for that. Unfortunately I, on the other hand, even though I need to have 2 garage sales, thought I needed a cutter quilt and 9 cotton tablecloths for aprons, pot holders, and pillows. The cutter quilt is rough around the edges but the center is fine and it was $5. The 9 tablecloths have some stains, but I can work around them, too, and at 50 cents each I couldn't pass them up. They are all in the washing machine with some 20 Mule Team Borax added, so we will see. I figure if I sell 1 pillow for $20 I'm ahead already. LOL!

Linda,
Great finds!
I have a couple of quilts that my grandmother made and if I can't fix them, I will make use of them some other way. I have loads of my mom's tablecloths but haven't thought of what to make with those yet.

Linda, sounds like fun. On the web site that Bernina has, they were sewing waves of colorful fabric over the outside of tote bags that some cruise lines give out. I thought of you.
