Ed and I love the less traveled routes. We usually program the GPS to no highways and no tollroads when we have plenty of time. Then we get to see lots of farmlands, 2-lane roads, and unusual sights. LOL!

The iris is beautiful, Marilyn! Did your internet ever go off? Sounds kind of sketchy to me.
I think we still have some iris around here that came from my husband's great grandma...they are purple and bronze.

Connie, your trip to town sounds interesting. Wow, I think you were blessed to see a real live barn owl up close. Is there any flooding in your area?I

Sara aren't iris roots called rhizones??

Marilyn that's it. I just couldn't remember. I do remember irises are planted with top half of rhizomes above ground and they like dry feet. At times they're the only plants I had to thrive during a prolong drought.

Marilyn, no we have been blessed this time, no flooding.

My Iris is as old as me! My Granny planted these in 1957 at her new house in Memphis, Tn. the year I was born. In 1972 she dug some of them up and moved them to Friendship, Tn. In 1974 I dug some of them up at her house in Friendship and brought them back to Memphis where they 1ived 13 years at out first home and then I dug up some and brought them with me here to the country in Arlington,in 1987. My Granny had Yellow ones and the Browns ones and a light Lavender. I had some yellow ones but I think the moles ate them.
Marilyn, the same thing happened this year to my Dutch iris, they bloomed about 4 inches off the ground, I have never seen that happened ever before!!

Sara is right, they don't like to have their wet feet and they don't like to be deep in the ground. They would grow in the gravel driveway at my Granny's. She would have to go and dig them up.

I love iris!!! I love that they catch autumn leaves, and then the weeds and grass have less room to grow.
After we sold my mothers house, the lady, New owner, sent me a small box. Inside were some ribosomes of an iris my mother purchased. It was unusual and that sweet lady thought of me. I don't know if they still bloom or not. I planted a bunch on top of the old cellar, along with old orange day lilies. I don't go out there very often...due to uneven ground and copperheads...but when I do go out to look it is usually so pretty. I surely do hope that my body will respond to my new regime and I can do more and more outside work.

We live in Sandy loam, so moisture does not hang around very long. The last time I moved some iris on down the lane, my son had the road fixed.I found some growing in the kaliche road, months later. They had accepted their new home made the best of it, and peeked out so I could come to their rescue.

Connie, this looks just like the Iris my Mama had outside the kitchen door in a small little garden. I believe some of hers came from her farm home in Indiana. We would go up there every Summer to visit for a few weeks, and I am pretty sure many of the bulb flowers in our yard were transplants from my Grandma's garden. They both had such a green thumb!!

With the beatiful weather we had today we accomplished so much work outside. I will pay for it tomorrow I know. the dirt pile from having the septic done finally got spread around and filled in all the spots. I spent so much time clearing the yard of sticks and it looks like I hardly made a dent. I did get loads of old leaves raked up and taken away and we made great progress in the garage. The garage has been my bane for many years. We never seem to get it quite finished but this year I am more than determined. So it turned out to be a great weather day. Now everything is aching so I am heading for my recliner and a cup of something.

I met the new phone friend this morning.I
She is a member of the Lutheran church where I started the day care.
The ladies were having a garage sale, and when I walked in it was obvious that I had been the topic of good conversation. So I was introduced to such a nice lady. We had another visit. This time in person.

That is nice that you got to me your new phone friend in person, did you also enjoy the yard sale.
Computers are funny sometimes, it had me writing hats sale instead of yard sale.
Have a good night.

Linda, no she had not called me. She is wondering if her new doorbell is the problem. She has a new one that takes photos. It is connected but still on the table by her front door. Maybe it was a God thing.
Darlene, computers, especially my tablet have a mind of their own. Sometimes I feel like a teacher grading papers. But if I don't read over my post before I press submit, I know there will be errors.
Then in the submitting process things are changed too.

Denise try to work in a little fun activity - gotta have balance in our lives. A lot of work and a little play keeps FarmGirls happy.

Housework today and hope to finish wool sheep so I can get him hung. Yesterday I cut out pattern for new wool project so I may work on it too.

We had another strange storm after midnight last night. Then I began hearing the faint sound of coyotes. Soon they were quite close and noisy. Lacey barked and barked. Then I could hear Bear. Then cows and calves bawling. I called my son this morning and told him about it. He said he would check. Last year he lost a cow and her calf, she was giving birth, to coyotes... in the middle of the night.

I plan to have some playtime later this afternoon Sara. I haven't even made it outdoors yet.

Connie your dogwood is beautiful. I used to know a story about the dogwood tree but can't recall it. Do you by any chance know it?
