Wow Denise how sad to be allergic to chocolate and shrimp. I would hate that. I love both those,
Well keep well there are other things you can substitute for those I think, stay well.
Allergies are no fun.

Allergies are such a quirky thing! The other thing I am allergic to is most squashes... yup even pumpkin :'( I have found that I can have it every once in awhile in small amounts, so pumpkin pie once a year is still okay :)

Denise - how interesting that shrimp affect you and not other seafood! Everyone else I know has issues with all seafood, if any! Does cocoa powder break you out in hives? Just wondering which part of chocolate bothers you!

If I am not mistaken with the three sisters, they do not cross pollinate due to when they bloom. The timing is off to cross pollinate.

We learned the hard way, that our ice cream lover can only have one brand from the grocer: Dutch Chocolate Blue Bell Ice cream. Otherwise it came right back up. Now she can have a Brahms chocolate shake or one of my Blue Bell, peanut butter and whole milk shakes...which she called and asked for on her way to work Wednesday.

That has got to be hard to work with.
Denise your shakes sound good. The Blubell is good ice cream!
Did you know that some of the ice creams now have Soy in them? People are becoming allergic to that a lot now because they sneak it everything and it is most of the vegetable oils out there now,
Have a good day! Feel better.

Denise, 35 years ago, my husband had a terrible allergic response to eating shrimp that resulted in out dashing to the Urgent care for IV drugs to turn it around. Not long after that, he had the same response to oysters. He grew up in Norfolk, Va. and had been eating all kinds of shellfish his entire life. It is weird how suddenly a serious allergy can pop up. Once it does, you really can never safely eat those items again without huge risk of an anaphylactic response. Serious stuff! He misses them but I never really cared for shellfish except crab so I haven't missed cooking them at all. An allergy to chocolate would be a HUGE blow for me!! LOL!!!

I have an allergy to iodine so I stay away from all sea food. There was a time I could eat fish if I didn't eat it often but over the years that changed and I no longer am able to eat fish. I found out I was allergic to iodine when in my 20s I had a medical test done with iodine dye in my vein. When the dye reached my heart I had a reaction and the next I knew they were bringing me around. I use only Kosher salt which has no iodine. I seem to tolerate the little iodine I get in prepared foods.

The sun is shining today but it's a cool 44. Will prep my Yellow Rose Cottage for canning in the coming days. My 3 stuffed moose are gathered around the table out there so with them and Annie I'll have plenty of company. I no longer decorate for holidays just too sad for me but I do something for the changing seasons. And who can't help but smile when they are in the presence of moose in sweaters and hunters caps with flaps.

Shannon, on the History subject, Our American History is not being taught in schools like it was when I was a kid. The actor Atticus Schaeffer who played the youngest child, Brick Heck on the tv show "The Middle" now shown on hallmark Channel. He uses his celebrity to raise money for American History packets for Elementary school teachers. In California, the budget cuts included teaching materials for American History! really??? So Atticus ask if they supplied the material for the teachers could they teach it? They said yes! Was there really any other answer!! He was on the Home and Family show that comes on weekday mornings on hallmark channel. He was raised in a Christian home and it shows in his speech and attitude!

My Holly had an allergy attack before boarding a plane. She had eaten a sandwhich in a coffee shop in LAX Airport. She has never had an allergy in her life!! She had to be seen by medical staff, catch another flight home. A few weeks later here, she came to out house and her lips were swelling, I said, Holly look in the mirror, Her dad took here to the ER. They got it under control, she saw an allergy Specialist, they tested her for weeks for everything under the Sun! never narrowed it down!!! each time she had eaten something different, she never had shellfish. When she was in labor with Lily June, they nurse ask her about it, she said, they never found out what caused it! It was scary! She carries that pen around with her in case. Hasn't had an episode in 4 years so far! Thank the Lord!

Sara I bet your moose are so cute in their hats and sweaters, sweet and cheerful.

It is sad what they have taken out of the schools now the History is being changed here at our schools we live between two reservations and one time one of them helped with the library and they removed a lot of books that they did not like how they were written. So a lot History is lost there. Allergies can be so dangerous?
Wow!

Allergies like those are so frightening.
This is a FYI.After lunch midweek our home phone rang. My husband answered then handed it to me.The young man said he and others from PCH were on their way to my house with a check and a new car. When I did not react he asked if I knew who PCH was, and wasn't I excited to win? Then he started again...We are on our way, we will be there in just a few minutes...Then he messed up by saying all I needed was proof of my identity and how I would take care of paying for the registration. That is when I said " Scam, SCAM! That is what this is! ". Then he said," Damn it, you stupid bitch. " I hung up.
So...be careful.

WOW! Marilyn, so glald you caught that. There are so many scams out there now. Remember - NEVER say "Yes" when someone calls and asks "Is this Your name?" They can turn it around and use your "yes" to get information.

Now that is a scam I have never heard of before either! We got rid of our land line and when I get a call that is not recognizable on my cell phone, I block the caller if they don't leave a message. It has helped cut down on solicitations and scammers. It is very annoying!!

On a better note, I am finally caught up with Christmas preparations, except wrapping a couple of things coming in the mail this week. This weekend, my girls will be here and it will be good to spend time together too. The funny thing about late December down here is that NOW the deciduous trees are turning beautiful yellow, orange and reds!!! Don't laugh, but I just couldn't put away my fall pumpkins ,so I knitted one a scarf, and one a hat in red and green. Hehehe, they are out on the porch greeting passers by with their big grins!!! And, I am still enjoying Pumpkin Spice coffee in a Christmas mug!! LOL!!! In my backyard, I still have my cornstalks up with pumpkins and mums beneath too. Before you all think I am totally nuts, just remember that it is only now that we have what the rest of the country had during their months of October and November. I wait and long for Fall all hot and humid summer long, so..........I am not going to stop enjoying fall just because the calendar says December. Nope!! And yes, I have a continuing bowl of red apples on my kitchen table(just ate one for a snack) that have been from a local grocery who has been bringing them down from upstate New York:Empires, Jonathans, red delicious and lately, Fujis. I have also cooked up and frozen my daughter's crop of Florida Seminole Pumpkins for a Pumpkin Pie. The meat is quite good and the pie I made for Thanksgiving was delicious. The local Pecan crop is also plentiful so I will make a Pecan Pie using local Cane Syrup instead of Kayro syrup called for in most recipes. In a way you can say, I am just now able to enjoy all the fruits of fall that happen in Florida along with the ripening of local oranges. My orange tree this year is loaded down and the oranges are fat and sweet! Farmgirls, the motto from me here at my Florida "Log Cabin" is Happy Fall and A Blessed Christmas!! LOL!!!

I feel like I haven't been here in a while, so just catching up a little. Posted a request on the prayer thread.

Marilyn, seems those scammers are out in full force this time of year.
I had one call my phone and the whole thing was in Chinese. Hung up and blocked her number.
We can't get rid of our landline because it is our business phone.

Winnie,
I love fall so I would squeeze as much out of it as I could. I bet your pumpkins are adorable with their hats and scarves.
Oh and good sweet oranges! I miss being to get them from my mom and dad's trees. We used to visit every January for her birthday and we would bring home a bunch of the oranges with us. They had the ones that were red inside, blood orange?, and they were so good.

I have gotten everything ready here for Christmas. I have a applesauce fruit cake to make yet. My daughter came over this week to help me clean and get the rooms ready for company. She did most of the cleaning as I am not able right now.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful day!

Denise~~

Love your graphics, Winnie. Red trucks/cars with trees are my favorites.

Ed and I were up early today and were outside from 7-8 AM helping 2 fathers cut down mistletoe from one of our trees to help an organization that donates to the North Texas Food Bank. There is an organization - jinglebellmistletoe.org - that was started 7 years ago by a girl who wanted to raise money to help victims of Hurricane Sandy, because her uncle was one of those affected. It was winter and too cold for a lemonade stand so she decided to see mistletoe from her front yard since it was free and available. She sold out the first batch in an hour, and raised a total of $2600 that she sent to the American Red Cross in New York. That was the first year and it is getting stronger each year. Steve and Brad are the two fathers who were here this morning; Steve's daughter started it and is president and Brad's son is the VP. Ed raised Brad up in the bucket of the tractor to reach some of the mistletoe. They said they would definitely be back next year because our mistletoe had a lot of berries and was very good for this project. They add a bow and bell to the clumps of mistletoe and sell it in front of a grocery store every year. He said a cluster about 18" in diameter sells for $50-75. WOW! And this is from a parasite that kills our trees. Last year they gave a $68,000 check to the foodbank, and each $1 feeds 3 kids. This year they are trying to raise $70-75,000. After I saw an article last December about the group, I looked up a number and called the girl who started this 7 years ago and told her I had LOTS of mistletoe and they were welcome to it.

They had an event a few weeks ago to raise money. It was to break the Guiness book of Records for the most couples kissing unuder mistletoe at the same time. They were going for 250 couples to break the current record - there were 340 couples there!!! So the record was broken. Each couple paid $25 (many paid more for the donation) and all that money was added to this year's goal. I can't wait to see the total.

He took a couple pictures (I wish I had prepared for pictures - LOL) and I will post if he sends them to me.

Linda,
That is fantastic! Amazing what we can do when we put our minds to it!

Went out this morning to get the crab for Christmas eve. I also won't be eating that. We went to Red Lobster last week after I wrote about the shrimp and I had crab and it is giving me trouble too. So I think it is best if I stay away from the seafood I love so much. The chocolate doesn't bother me because I can take it or leave it and when I do eat it, I take something for the hives. But seafood I am going to miss terribly. I have always loved it. But it is a breathing issue with the seafood. I like to breathe!

I finally got caught up with all of you this morning!
Sara, your moose sound adorable! Can you post a picture?
Years ago, I had a horrible reaction to some shrimp at a Chinese place. I don't know if it was just a "bad" shrimp or I can no longer eat them. I never really cared for seafood anyway, so it hasn't been a hard decision for me to not eat it anymore. I wouldn't want to go through that again.
I'm hoping to finally get some baking done today and this weekend. I just have 1 apron left to sew for my sister today and then I can relax a little!

Thanks! I think the kids are doing something great and are learning entrueprenureship (I am SURE that is spelled wrong LOL). I am very happy to support them. In an hour we filled the back of a pickup truck with mistletoe, and at the prices the kids get, it was around $3-4,000 dollars worth, and it was a parasite on our tree! I was so glad to help. They said they would be back next year. LOL!

I LOVE seafood, except for mussels, octopus, squid, etc. I love shrimp, lobster, most filet-type fish. I COULD stop eating them if I had to, but hope I can continue eating it.

Crappie is the best most delicate fish I have ever enjoyed. In the spring, a good patient fisherman can catch a mess for supper, or to share. Yum! They are small fish but oh so yummy.

Sara, I love your idea of festive Moose companions!! You all, I love my stuffed chicken that I found last Spring. She is quite soft and cute and I've named her SweatPea. My daughter says, "Mom, you really need a pet when you are naming the stuffed chicken!" LOL!!!

Those who are finding issues with seafood, it is best to stay away. Seafood has been implicated in some serious allergy reactions like various types of nuts.

My daughter finally arrived today around noon. She tried to get home last night but traffic was so backed up on I-95 all the way to South Carolina. After a full day of plodding along, I encouraged her to get off the road around, get an inexpensive hotel room, some food, and a good night's sleep. She did that and felt so much better. It is dangerous to drive when you are exhausted and wound up after a day of constant delays and frustrations.

Thanks to all of your for your lovely cards and Christmas wishes! One of my best presents of all is the friendship with Farmgirls in our HenHouse and MJF! As Tiny Tim would say, "God Bless us All"!

Winnie, glad your daughter chose to rest before heading back out. I have the print you shared on a tray a girlfriend gave a while back. The little girl reminds of my mother when she was little. Well the rare photo I have seen of her when was small. Makes me happy I can keep her with me in this small way at christmas.

Here's the little tree I decorated with all the vintage ornaments I found in my mom and dad stuff. It's one of those skinny trees so I put in the crock with one of her table cloths in it. My dad made the wooden St. Nicolaus standing next to it.

That's pretty, Denise. Such a great way to show off your parents' ornaments.

Today my son and his family were here to open presents - everything but Santa. We decided to do it today because tomorrow is mine and Ed's 1st anniversary and on Christmas Day they will be in Oklahoma with Michelle's relatives. We just made breakfast casseroles - mine was Denise's recipe and Michelle made one without meat for Dean and one grandson who are vegetarians. Everyone liked their gifts - the twins really liked their night vision goggles and the Lazer Tag for 4 people I got for the family. They couldn't wait to go home and try the lazer tag. The clothes I gave them got the reaction I expected - they pulled them out of the bag and put them back in. LOL! The three grands liked their slippers, though - and their Dad gave strict orders NOT to wear them outside. lol!

My son loves hot sauces, and we got a set of 7 - the last being ghost pepper. There is a video my DIL took on Facebook - his reaction to the ghost pepper was priceless - red face, watering eyes, and shock on his face. LOL!

I think your little tree with vintage ornaments is cute, Denise.
Linda I'm glad your family enjoyed their early Christmas gifts.
Winnie, we never stop being concerned for our traveling children, do we!
I fixed a pot of pinto beans, fajitas with homemade flour tortillas, enchiladas( from the freezer...I froze a batch the last time I made them.), and a Mexican Salad for lunch today. I think everyone enjoyed it. I thought it would be good to eat simple today since we will have a big turkey dinner Christmas day. I asked Julie how on earth we were going to cook a big meal and open gifts at our house as well as their house that day. She said we would eat first then have the gifts. Of course Hadle e wants to open gifts, now! We all reminded her that she only asked for money! Of course she has some gifts but... Yesterday she asked why I had the ugly angels by the tree. I asked her who have one of them she shadow and mascara, several years ago...She admitted it was probably me. (These are plastic angels about four ft. Tall. Baylee chose them for my birthday gift when she was two. Then the girls played with them as if they were dolls until they stopped dressing the angels up and playing make believe.
