Got up at 4:30 and have watered the few plants left on back deck. Soon as it's light enough I'll water the front & side yard. It's already 86 with high of 106 so all outside work will be done by 7:00. Plan on piddling and embroidering rest of the day.

Piddling may have to be worked around doing the floors. lol

Edited to add: Annie and I sat out on side porch and it was just light enough with my and neighbor's lights to see my way around the front and side yards. It's 5:45 and watering is done until Sunday morning. I water deeply every other day. Seems to work out really well even during triple digits.

Your heat wave out in Texas sounds awful!!! Just fire hot sun with no rain, is the worst. We are having our second rain today., but what else is new? Farmgirls, we just have to soldier on till September when there might be some shift in the weather patterns to make it more tolerable. OR flat out move way up into Canada!! LOL!!

That doesn’t sound like much fun Winnie. The heat would melt me though.

Keep cool everyone.

Love you all.

Connie, we just went through a storm like you had today. It rained before church, after church and now again in the afternoon. I think the front that caused your storm is arriving here in the state. wonderful. more rain. just what we need. NOT!! At least we have not had temps like you and Linda of 107 and 108! AWFUL!!

WE had 4 inches of rain at my house yesterday!! It was such a wash out. There was also a lot of terrible lightening all across the top of the state with each round of rain cells. Some areas also had hail and high winds. It felt like a hurricane but it wasn't at all.

Yesterday, we counted 7 Monarch Butterfly caterpillars on one of the Milk Weed plants. They are quickly eating all of the leaves on the plant so then what? This has been fun to watch!

Winnie, how wonderful to have seven monarch caterpillars. I had milkweed growing along my fence line where I used to live and would see the caterpillars. I always let the milkweed grow because I knew it was the only food for the caterpillars. Guess I should plant a few plants here. I've seen it in seed/plant catalogs so I will have to go through them or look for milkweed on-line.

Winnie, I have had at least 8 butterflies in my garden yesterday at one time. I saw caterpillars many weeks ago on different plant. I guess they Hatched???

We found a monarch chrysalis on the side of the carport today!! I hope all of the caterpillars survive this next phase of their life!

We are leaving on a trip on Friday morning to take a tour in Germany and Switzerland. We will return on August 12. I will have WiFi access most of the time, so I hope to check in when I can. Lots of packing and stuff to today and tomorrow. Looks like Europe is having a heat wave of their own if, weather.com. if correct. Geeze, is there no way to escape the heat this Summer?? LOL!!

It is 64 here right now. Unbelievably cool. Welcome reprieve. We had 90s and 100s just recently. They will return just in time for the state fair. Keep cool girls. Seems weird to close the windows.
