Oh yay!! I’m so excited that Judith and Laura joined! I received a list of what Judith is reading...she was having trouble accessing the forum before. It’s so fun to hear what you guys are reading and doing. Keep up the good work, hen sisters! We’re not even half way through the month :) This is so fun!

Sounds like we have a good group of readers going! I am reading a a fantastic book about Victoria and Albert my daughter recommended. I am enjoying it so it is going quickly but it is 400+ pages. Hope to finish this week.

Happy Saturday!

Hope you all have found some time to read a bit today. I had a chance to go to the library today and found some fun things to read. But first, I started Laurie Colwin’s Home Cooking last night. I am rereading it - it’s a fun collection of food essays that I keep with my cookbooks.

Earlier this month I finished The Immortalists. It was an interesting read - but it wasn’t a feel good story for me.

Looking forward to learning more about what you all are enjoying.

Laura

Debbie,
This one is called "We Two" by Gillian Gill. Hoping to finish it this week so I can leave it here. It belongs to my daughter and she knows I love history of England so she recommended it. The series they have on PBS is a little off but not by much.
Enjoy your day!

157 in the thick book and 69 in the other one. Both interesting but difficult to get time with taking care of the grandlittles.
So it's slow going.

I only have 106 pages altogether. I picked up where I left off with my Celtic Legends book, so I'm trying to finish that. Right now I'm working on finishing books I had previously started. I'm also picking up Dandelion Wine again, which I was only about 20 pages into.

I would like to read Victoria and Albert also, Denise. Debbie, I read The Help shortly after it came out. I remember enjoying it.

My part in this April challenge will end today, Joyce. I sent you an e-mail in detail. I have read a total of 5,878 pages. The weather is so beautiful. I hope to spend most of the weekend outdoors. I need to prepare and review my final Spanish 1 class as well as make time for my spiritual reading. (which I don't count as pages read) I am still reading "Undaunted Courage" by Stephen E. Ambrose. This is his story of Meriwether Lewis, Thomas Jefferson, and the Opening of the American West. Both DH and I enjoy his historical writings. I also have to put in a "plug" for "Until Tomorrow, Mr. Marsworth" by Sheila O'Connor. Sheila is the daughter of DH's step-sister. So, of course, we read all of Sheila's books (young-adult novels).
My daughter read "The Hiding Place". This is the true story of Corrie Ten Boom and her family who became militant members of the anti-Nazi underground. I was so happy my daughter was introduced to that book. I had read it at about the age of 28 and it truly impacted my like. Of course, I read it again. The book impacted my life again in a new way as I am older now. The only other book I have read again (other than those read to children) is Watership Down.

Happy reading Wildflowers! And, thank you, Joyce for the opportunity to share some books with you all.

Judith, wow! That is impressive. I knew when I joined this challenge there was no way I would have the most pages read. My total is only around 150, but it's fun and interesting to hear what everyone is reading and seeing how much everyone is reading. Judith, Watership Down is on our list of books to read with the kids this summer. We're focusing on classics in the Autodidact's reading list. Some we'll read together, and some I'll have them read on their own. I have a few books- The Little Women, Anne of Green Gables that are from the illustrated junior library classics, and I was so happy to see that I could get some on amazon (used) for a really good price. These are really nice hardcover books with a few illustrations scattered throughout.

Judith....wow!!! That is impressive! My son read Undaunted Courage several years ago. He picked it up on a road trip he went on with my husband and I through Montana and shared with us while he was reading. It sounded like something I would want to read myself and I had forgotten about it until you mentioned it. What was something in it that really surprised you in any way? What are you currently reading in your spiritual books?

Debbie Klann, re Undaunted Courage. Besides the incredible adventure I am struck by the thought that so far in this story very little is written about Sacajawea. We have a coin, a book and a stamp, and a Disney movie based on her. I am half-way through the book. Even though Lewis and Clark are about to meet up with the Shoshones they hardly mention her in their journals except as part of the group. Maybe this will change in the next half. (I hope) I also downloaded their journals to read next. DH gave me the hardback to read. However, the print is so small i could not read it. I downloaded it to my NOOK so I could increase the print size.

My "spiritual reading" is my time to read my Bible and a couple of devotionals. One I am reading now is "Be Still and Know". It is a daily reading which I actually read daily for the first month. Then I let life get in the way, and now I read it weekly most of the time. Thanks for your interest.

Erin, I am so happy to read that you plan to read some of the classics to your children this summer!

Judith, I read Bird Woman a couple summers ago, about Sacajawea. You would probably really enjoy it! It would be fun to compare her side of the travels with L and C's .

Laura, I just read a preview of Laurie Colwin's "Home Cooking". It really looks like a fun read. The preview consisted of 3 essays. Reminded me of my youth. I'm adding this to my list.

Also, Debbie K, I will add Bird Woman to my list. Thanks for the heads up!
