Yeah Carole I agree, it is just zooming by. Faster and faster.
Well have a good week and don't forget to stop and smell the roses and flowers if there aren't any roses around.

Hi everyone!!! I decided to come take a break on the porch from the craziness we call life :) We moved on to base housing the end of June, just in time for me to get mono!!! It has been a long month fighting it!!! I'm starting to feel a little more alive! Emi had salmonella poisoning (we are guessing from her siblings playing with the lizards and toads here) and Ben has had cellulitis in his right hand. On a high note, taking Emi off of dairy has helped tremendously - In the last month she has gained over 5 pounds and went from being unable to sit on her own, to sitting, crawling, and pulling up - all in a month!!! I have been trying to go through things here to get ready for the big "across the country" move.... looks like we are heading that way in September :)

Oh Shannon, it is so good to hear from you again! I have been thinking and praying for you. How awful that you have been sick with mono , Emi with salmonella, and Ben with Cellulitis! But how WONDERFUL that Emi is doing much better and your long goal of moving to Wyoming is coming closer and closer!! It is good to know that despite some big health challenges for some of you, things are looking up. Please check in as much as you can and keep us posted. I am very excited that you and hubby will finally get to move to that dream Homestead this Fall. I will keep all of you in my continued prayers for wellness and prosperity!!

Got back from our 3-day vacation in Fairfield Bay, AR, yesterday - the first road trip for my new Honda CR-V. Car did great and we saw beautiful scenery. While there, we went to the Ozark Village at the state park in Mountain View, AR, and I bought me a hand-made broom. I love it - it is beautiful! It cost more than I ever thought I'd spend on a broom. LOL! Also, at the quilt shop in the village the quilt frame they had set up was very different. The front and back rails were like many I've seen, but the side rails were made with 2x2s - one long and the other cut in pieces and spaced to make the notched side rails. Individual strips are pinned to the quilt and not a long strip of fabric on each side. This is kinda hard to describe so I'm attaching pictures that may STILL not describe it completely. This frame was designed by a woman who could not get her husband to help her roll her quilt, so she made the sides so she could roll the quilt up the side rails herself. Hmmmmmmm - a project to make?

Also found at the quilt shop was the most beautiful embroiderd poem. The storeperson said she keeps a box of kleenex by the framed piece because many ladies start crying. Here is a picture of it. I'd love to do this same verse sometime.

We took a different path home - no freeways until we got in Texas. We both love off-the-beaten-path trips. We took the country roads so we could stop in Pine Ridge, AR, at the Lum and Abner "Jot Em Down Store and Museum." Those were 2 funny guys, and all those stories they told were taken from their childhood experiences.

The poem is lovely, Linda. The quilt frame is brilliant. I have seen women, including my mother, struggle to roll their quilts up. Hers hung from the ceiling in a spare bedroom, over the bed. Do you pin the quilt to the hanging fabric strips to keep it straight and tight, then you remove the pin before you roll?

Yes, I think you would have to remove the pins for the section you have quilted and roll to the next opening in the side. Really a neat way to roll the quilt for one person. I don't do much hand quilting of large quilts, but if I did, I'd want a quilt frame like this. I don't think the frame above would be as easy to take up and down with a quilt on it. I'd have to look into that.

I think the short blocks were around 4-5" with the space for a 2x2 (1-3/4"?) between them. I guess I should have measured them. LOL!

My hairdresser has offered a quilt frame to me. I need to go and get it. My problem is where to PUT it.

I love the poem, too.

That is me...no room. But I have a quilt I began to hand quilt on a lap frame years ago. I need to finish it...SOMEDAY.
When I saw this frame, I thought that might be the way to get it done.

Linda, your trip sounds wonderful! As for your broom, can you at least hop on it and ride it? lol What a lovely quilting frame! Great idea!

Shannon, good to see you on the forum. Hopefully life will settle for you a bit! Do remember to take good care of yourself.

Not much going on around here. I continue to take my power walks/runs every day, slowly increase the distance I run. It's all in an effort to take better care of myself. I haven't done much quilting since my last bout, but I can sense the quilting spark slowly edging me to get back to it. I have been doing a lot of reading.

I've been working on a bucket list. Do any of you have a bucket list? I figured it was high time I start keeping a list of the things I want to do in my life so that I can actually think about doing them. I read somewhere that it's important to write down what you would like to do, even if you think it's outrageous, like going to the moon, flying an F18 or perhaps a more modern jet, .... Dreams are important. So if ever you see me on the moon, you'll know I crossed that off the list! - heck I'd settle for the International Space Station! - no wait, no settling, that too is on my bucket list!

My little Pumpkin is still in Nicaragua, working very hard! She just loves remodeling! I'm so glad that she is learning that skill. A future Mary Jane in the making! lol The organization she is with has posted pictures of the kids working. They moved 2 tonnes of stones for a foundation they are building. She gets back on Saturday and leaves from MA back to New York do finish the last two weeks with the boy scouts!

Enjoy the day everyone! Cheers!

My son and his family just left for their trip up north. Their family of four squeezed in an extra boyfriend and little dog for he long, long drive. Baylee took both finals today and said they were OK, not bad. Tristen, the boyfriend filled out more college paperwork today. Hadlee had a melt down. She was tired, hungry and very grouchy. I hope they do not lose any bags along the highway, the pickup was crammed full, tool box and all. I hope they have a wonderful trip. We get to rest, after we feed the baby calf, the bunny, two kitties and doctor one horse...every day. He got someone to feed and water the other critters, but we must check on them. Whee!

Linda, your trip sounded like a lot of fun! I love taking road trips and just stopping at unplanned places and exploring. That quilting frame you saw was a beauty. Very clever and practical too if you have the space to set it up.

Carole, I have been trying to figure out what kind of bucket list would really represent what I could pull off. As the years march forward, I am increasingly aware of how many of my ideas will never come to fruition, so now I am trying to revise my bucket list to more realistic wishes. I admit that I am struggling to figure out what I really want, what is financially possible, and what I am capable of pulling off.

I'm still working on my bucket list. Since Ed and I got together I've seen a lot of places I hadn't been to - Oregon, Washington state, Graceland, Winchester Mystery House, Art Car Parade in Houston, and other more local places. Our list has New Zealand/Australia, more Italy for me (he's never been there), Alaska again for me (new for him), LOL!

Hello beautiful farmsister,

So glad you are all thinking about your bucket list. And ... hurry for you if you manage to cross stuff off! The important thing is to have that bucket list, include everything you would like to do, whether you can afford it or not! Dreams are important.

Connie, nice laundry line! So cheerful!

I saw in Instagram that Julie is busy with the harvest. It seriously made me want to go there. I need to get away!!!!!! Oh dear, now I have that song in my head - Lenny Kravitz - Fly Away! ...... I wish that I could fly, into the sky, so very high, just like a dragonfly, la la la la la I want to get away, I wan to fly away la la la

Off to get the song out of my head! Enjoy the day! Hugs to all!

Hi everyone,
Can you believe it is August already. My July flew by with county fairs, lots of company and the usual farm, garden and lawn chores. Just keeping up with both farm lawns is a full days job. We are in durum harvest as Carole said, hopefully will be done by the end of next week if the weather holds. Than it will be a bit of a Break until soybeans are ready. Once that hits it will be none stop for awhile with beans, corn and almost 1000 acres of sunflowers. They have been blooming for a week or so and are on 2 continuous sections that I can see from my living room window. Even though they are over a mile away they are still stunning to see every day.

Carole I would love for you to visit, but as I tell everyone this time of year be prepared to be a chief cook and bottle washer if you do. It can be a challenge to get a hot meal on the table, I don't like eating at 9 or 10 at night, but sometimes it can't be helped.

Is anyone watching the Olympics? I have the swimming competition on right now. I love the equestrian events, I am going to have to check the schedule to see when things are being televised.

Sorry I haven't been on the forum much lately, not enough hours in the day. I do pop in occasionally to see that everyone is OK. I thought Carole might be sending the cavalry out looking for me if I didn't stop by for a bit. Take care everyone and since it is August stay cool!

A little rain can straighten a flower stem. A little love can change a life.

Carole - your comment about flying on my broom is exactly what Ed said when I bought it. He said - Now you have a way to fly home. LOL

Julie - You sound so super busy with harvests. How nice to be raising so many crops. I'd like to be able to visit - even if I was cook. Ed could help with something. LOL!

Julie, I totally understand your difficulty getting a hot meal on the table and eating late. We had a dairy for three years. I was milking twice a day and teaching school, raising baby calves, sponsoring cheer leaders and annual staff. I was 36 years old. On weekends, after morning milking I would shower, fix a big breakfast, and crawl back in bed, often until 1:00pm. I took our laundry to town to a place that did it for you. There simply was not enough time. One day I was giving a spelling test to my third graders, standing near the wall by the classroom door, and went to sleep. Just a very quick wink of a nap...probably 15 seconds. My head moved and I was awake, never fell or anything like that, but I went home and told my husband we had to hire some help...and he did. I still milked one shift, and did a lot of chores but I also got a bit more sleep.

Hello all. Sounds like the girls are all super busy. I finally got the quilt done for the 125th anniversary of Minnesota State Parks. Presented it at the headwaters of the Mississippi River (Itasca state park) last weekend. This week was the water garden tour (thank goodness our house wasn't included this year).and the Upper Midwest koi show. Whew! I am not as busy with harvest as you are in North Dakota though. Our state fair is in two weeks and I will be quilting some days and in the dairy barn some days.
Thanks to all who sent birthday cards. I really appreciate them. Shannon, I am glad you and your family are finally improving health wise. Getting ready to move so far is a humongous job! Wish I was closer to help. I am not making a bucket list because I'm cleaning out clutter. Started in my sewing room with patterns.
I will post a picture of the quilt soon.
