Lol! Carole- I was looking at that pic on FB and wasn't noting who posted it. Anyway, it sounds like a good read, so I just mentioned it on "Next Book" thread. Though, I saw it was already mentioned.

Sorry everyone, I am a bit behind on life right now. What I thought was strep running amok through our home seems to be a very nasty summer cold. I am through with my antibiotics, Isabelle has been for a couple of days. Most of the issue is sinus pressure and blockage. The drainage seems to be causing sore throats. Now, I guess Isabelle had strep, but seems the rest os this is something viral. The boys seem to be feeling better, other than some drainage still. Isabelle started complaint of the symptoms I had 2 days ago, Matt, too. :(

I have pushed back starting school (we Homeschool year- round) a week. We were supposed to start tomorrow. I have been lesson planning like crazy, seems like a good thing to do when I am afraid to get out and visit or go to church for fear I will contaminate everyone.

As for Shannon, I do not know. I replied to her email asking how the new place was, but I haven't heard back. I plan to email her in a bit.

Many Blessings- Alicia #5232

Lol Alicia! Wow, nothing worse than a summer cold! Hope everyone is starting to feel better. Oh, and thank you Alicia for keeping in touch with Shannon. I hope that all is well with her.

Sandra, no stressing in our henhouse!

Amy, indeed there is lots to think about regarding the whole college first year planning. We still have a bit of shopping to do. DD is leaving in a week to work on the Appalachian project. She does that every summer whereby they repair homes for the less privilege. DH also goes so it's a great father daughter bonding! August is approaching much too quickly!

As for the book Feast Nearby, it is excellent. It is in essay form intersperse with recipes. I am learning so much. She talks about coffee roasting. I never knew anything about it. I'm truly enjoying it.

Today I spent the day in Montreal catching up with an old friend. We hadn't seen each other in over 10 years. It was wonderful to catch up. A true sign of friendship is when you meet up and start where you left off! lol

Cheers!

Can only jump on here for a couple minutes... here is the drama saga of the week....

Monday - we moved :) 20 folks from church (including children) came out and helped! and of course the "unstable" neighbor called the cops - she felt we were too close to her property. The cop literally rolled his eyes when he told us why he was called out!

Tuesday - worked a little on the new house trying to get it semi organized and the kids' beds put together

Wednesday - worked on the old house - and a friend came and helped paint a bit

Thursday - worked more on the old house

Friday - worked at the new house while hubby went to the memorial service for his coworker. his car died on the way... and that night when he came back to check on the chickens at a friend's, he found two large dogs eating a couple of the chickens, that the chased him, and in the process, the keys got locked in the car! Long story short, I ended up meeting the neighbors at 2:30 in the morning after I woke them up, to borrow their phone (we have no phone at the new house yet) and I have no keys (he left his in the guy's car that gave him a ride home after the memorial service, so he had mine), to call the Pastor to find my husband, after I woke up to find him still not home! H finally made it home around 4:30 in the morning!

Saturday - worked on the old house - a friend helped paint

Sunday - church and grocery shopping, then last night a very sick 4 yo, and hubby had to go to the hospital to see a coworker who had been in a motorcycle accident and did not get home until 6 this morning!

Today - working on the old house and met with the realtor.

And on top of all of this, someone is going into our back yard through the gate almost every night! We have our speculations, but really just want it to stop!

We still have no phone or internet at the new house, so bear with me - I will send out recipes, asap.

Alicia and Shannon I hope everything starts going better at your homes. Carole aren't friendships fabulous that you can pick right up where you left off. I have 3 friends that have been in my life for 35 years and although we only see each other a couple times a year, it is like we had coffee yesterday together. Love spending time with those girls. Denise your kitchen helper is so cute. Isn't it fun to teach our grandchildren. Amy, when are you leaving on vacation? Sherry thank you for the latest info sheets, my collection is almost complete, it is nice to have a full hen house again.

I will be staying home today from the hay field. It is a day of drying, and Keith wants to cut ditches which I don't rake so will have a few days to catch up at home. I picked 3 gallons of broccoli last night. I have it all washed and separated so now I just have to blanch it and throw it in the freezer. I also picked raspberries and will be making a batch of jam sometime today. The garden needs weeding and the lawn needs mowing at both farms so that will pretty much take care of my day and I am sure there will be a few interruptions thrown in just to keep things interesting. Have a great day everyone!

Julie~ Sounds like you have a busy day ahead of you today. I love raspberry jam. Our blackberries are starting to ripen and the peaches have come in so I think I will be working on peach jam tomorrow or Thursday. May make a couple peach pies for the freezer. Do any of you make them ahead and freeze before baking them? I haven't done that and wondered if anyone had and if they are better that way?
I had to play catch up on paperwork for JT this morning. I have been slacking and he needed me to get things up to date for him. So, that was a task but always feels better when everything is caught up. Raining here but our garden needs it. Hope everyone is enjoying a great day. I am glad the hen house has more chicks now too!

Sounds like everyone is busy and doing well. Shannon I hope the settling in is going well. Julie, you make GREAT jam, I can attest to that!! Denise, I'll be in catch up mode today myself. I love hearing about the day to day details of your lives, it makes you all seem almost right nearby. I'll be keeping a close eye on mom today and cleaning up a few odds and ends so we can go away next week. We're having big thunderstorms right now and predicted for most of the day, so it's a good day to catch up on things. Have a lovely day, everyone!

Denise I have made apple pies and froze but never peach. I actually line a pie pan with foil and frreze in that shape so I am not tying up a pie pan. I do not bake them before hand though. Most of my list yesterday didn't happen, so all those chores go on today's list plus some. My daughter is prone to getting cysts on her head and one was severely inflamed and painful. She ended up getting in to her dermatologist surgeon because of a cancellation so I rode with her to the city so she could get it removed. We ran a couple of errands, picked up groceries and made it home by 9 last night. It will be smoken hot today so it will be a good day to mostly be inside.

Julie, thank you for answering my question. I understand how many days don't go the way we plan but everything works out.
Lots of storms and rain here today so working inside on some things. Going to make pie crusts and get some pies done and use up these peaches before they go bad. That is the only thing about so much fruit at once.

Denise, that would be awesome. I'm leaving on vacation for a week, assuming mom is still well enough to go, so maybe we could make something work in August? I'll send you an email.

I have a few quiet moments before I have to wake Lily up and get her ready for "school." She goes 3 days a week for half days. I'll probably be off the grid, so to speak, for awhile after this. Today I'm going to try to clean up a few loose ends before we go away. Mom is doing well but has a significant amount of pain. The medication seems to be addressing it though. So unless we have any more surprises, on Saturday morning we're off to Martha's Vineyard and then Boston.

Happy Day!

Sitting here swinging with my honey a the swing. Tori and I did up 11 jars of peach preserves today. Spent most of the rest of the cleaning and puttering around the kitchen.
Winnie, the barn quilt tour sounds like fun!

I am sorry I haven't been around much. It has been a bit crazy here since Isabelle got home from camp. I took her the Monday we got back to the doctor for what we assumed was strep, even though the swap came back neg. She finished her meds last week and has continued to be mildly sick; sore throat and knee pain being biggest symptoms. I was finally able to get her in again today. I think she may be on the tail end of Mono. Doc wasn't sure, but the knee pain seemed to concern him, so he had bloodwork drawn. He wants to rule out ulcerative colitis (similar to Krohn's) .

(((hugs))) Alicia! I'll be interested in seeing if it is mono, since that is what I speculated when you first listed her symptoms! We deal with ulcerative colitis, but for us it went/goes along with our gluten intolerance. As long as we are not eating gluten, no ulcerative colitis! Well except Sammi who is probable celiac. Let me know how it comes back!

Things here are still busy! We should have internet at the new house on Thursday :) So looking forward to that! Hoping to get this house done this week. We have been terribly ill, so not much work was done the last week and weekend! We will be here until around 7 tonight.

Funny Shannon. It's what I speculated as well. Sunday night, researching, and mono was certainly one of the things I suspected. He was certain it was strep. Mama knows best.... Yet again! See I research and people say don't do that, go to the doctor! But I was right, Mono it is. Seems it always ends up being what I suspect. I told the doctor it was what I suspected weeks ago. :( And I am almost certain Sawyer has it too.
