I have always loved the candles that have real spices on the outside. The problem is that they are expensive and burn up. While digging around the internet the other day, I found this neat solution. You take plain unscented candle pillars, carve out the top to fit a tea light or little LED light, then apply a mode/podge mixture thinned with water, and roll in a mixture of cinnamon and other spices. I added some cloves to my mixture but nutmeg, allspice or ginger would be fine as well. After you cover the candle in the spice mix, you let it dry for about 45 minutes. Before I sealed the spices with a light clear varnish spray, I spritzed some potpourri cinnamon bun spray lightly on it. Now the varnish holds the spices in place and the potpourri spray gives off a wonderful scent.

Next I trimmed out the candles with some ribbons and such and placed an unscented tea light in the top. They turned out really cute, I think!

The second photo shows a good close up of the surface.

Hey Denise, did you see where the Scarecrow managed to get in the photo at the last moment?? He is just saying' Hi and thanking you for sticking up for him!!

Someone is really in the mood for fall. . . Hee hee :) ! They are beautiful, and a great idea for people who can't burn regular candles too often because they have cats and toddlers around! What a smart idea!

Happy Day!

Home Depo sells the little votive LED lights and I was able to get a few packs of them yesterday. They are the perfect solution and the candles are safe in any location. I can't wait to use them!

Thanks everyone for your supportive comments! Two of them got wrapped today for homes. But the good news is that I have plenty of supplies to make more if I choose, which might just happen on a hot afternoon. According to our local weather guide, we are in for a looming spell of hot and humid days. Perfect for crafting!

I was lucky enough to get one of these lovely candles in the Christmas in July swap on the big site. I can tell you, the picture looks great, but in real life it is unbelievably beautiful, and the aroma -- heavenly! Winnie, you rock lady!

I am thinking I may have to try my hand at these! I absolutely love the sound of them! Crafting time is not something I have had any of in recent days (weeks... months...), but I think I may carve some out just for these!
