That's wonderful Shannon! Certainly something to be thankful of :) Yes...playgrounds...my favourite memory is a big huge medal shaped bus that we all used to play on - they were kind of like monkey bars, but there was a wheel too...kind of hard to describe - but OH did we ever love it!!

Day 4: My piano :) I love my white Yamaha Grand Piano - and am so thankful hubby encouraged me to buy it before he proposed to me (I had no idea he was proposing) because he knew that once we got married and had kids we would not be able to purchase one :)

Shannon how fortunate you are to have the sound of children at the playground right in your own yard! It is such a lovely sound. I have an early elementary school abutting my backyard, k-4, and I always look forward to watching the children walk over to their playground, and listen to the song they create with their chatter and giggles.

Joyce, what a wonderfully romantic thing for your husband to have done! I would give anything for a "real" piano, but I do enjoy the electric keyboard my husband gave me for Christmas a few years ago. Considering I hadn't played since I 6th grade, I do love to try and relearn to play.

I am certainly thinking of you and praying for you and your family, Shannon! I am so happy Alicia is close by for you!

Yes, I do remember the old playground equipment! My favorites pieces were the swings and the teeter-totters (see-saws). The see saws looked the same in country schools I attended...just long boards.
Then in elementary school they were long boards with handles and painted a beautiful, shiny green.

Day 4: Today I am grateful for my son and my daughter. I am grateful that they live close by. They are both in their 40's and neither has ever been arrested or in jail. lol. That sounds odd to say..but, you'd be surprised in this neck of the woods. Neither have a mean bone in their body and they have the biggest hearts in the world.

Judith you are the first person I have "heard" use the term teeter-totter in a very long time.... it is so good to hear! It is the term I use, and always must re-tract and use see-saw. lol

Intergenerational Dancing... mmmmmm This is a hard one. The best I can think of is learning to dance the box step by standing on my uncle's feet and holding his hands tightly. I was probably around 6 years old at the time, and my uncle was an old guy in his early 30's. He was my surrogate dad, since my own father had been gone since I was age 2.

Today I suppose I am thankful for having so much to be thankful for. Does that make sense? It's another rainy day and my mood matches the weather... think I'll have a cup of Erin's tea.

Day 5: Oh I love to dance!!! sadly, my hubby does not dance very often in public! So keeping along that theme of dancing... today I am thankful for my hubby. Though he hates to dance, he'll get in a romantic mood, find a CD, put it on, and start dancing with me in the kitchen :) Though we have our ups and downs, as every marriage does, I truly am blessed to have such an incredible man to call my hubby!

As a side note - thank you for the prayers for our family! Judith - Alicia actually doesn't live close by at all - she is hours away (and states) in Indiana!

Day 5: When I was in my 40s the VFW held dances with live bands on Saturday nights. The man I dated at that time loved to waltz and he was very good. Ladies in their 70s & 80s would ask him to dance with them and he would graciously whirl them around the dance floor. Then he would escort them smiling to their tables. I just know a dance with him made their night.

Today I am grateful for sunshine after all the rain.

Day 5: I've always loved, loved to dance! I danced on my dad's feet at the fancy restaurant we went to on Saturday nights. I danced the Polka with odds and ends Uncles at the area ballrooms. Weddings, oh yes! The Uncles and older cousins who knew the waltzes and fox trot, swing and rock&roll. Truth is I was not at all a good dancer. I was only a good dancer on my dad's feet.

I am grateful today for my home of 40 years. It's not fancy. But, it is our home. Couldn't ask for anything more when I think of those without a home or those struggling to keep theirs.

Shannon, sometimes I just have brain fades! What was I thinking yesterday! I guess Alicia just wants to be there close to you.

Alright girls, I'm having a hard time getting on every day this week, so I'm doubling up a little. The playground equipment entry I had to laugh at. The playgrounds we take our kids to are either the one behind our church, or the one in town by the baseball diamonds. The church playground has a merry go round (old, metal) and it has one of the fireman poles that was mentioned in the book! I mean, it is really high. I don't think my oldest has attempted it yet. The playground in town has a steep metal slide, with low sides, that is actually at the top of a hill!! You could literally just tumble down if you went fast enough. The kids love it though.

Day 4: I am thankful for baseball. We signed our boys up for baseball this year, and I wasn't really sure if I wanted to. I'm very much a home body. We homeschool, so we're home a lot. We do field trips and things like that, it's not like we don't go anywhere, but I was really resistant to the schedule that would come along with baseball. Totally selfish, I will admit. I wasn't sure they would like it either. We aren't very sporty people. I'm really glad that we did it though. It gives them more interaction with kids their age (not that I think they have a problem socially) and they have a lot of fun playing the game. They have never won a game yet, but that doesn't seem to matter too much to them. I think it's a great experience, and I'm sure we'll sign them up for more in the future.

Dancing! I don't dance. Lol! I didn't dance at prom, I didn't dance at my wedding reception, I just don't. I don't have a problem with it, it's just not something I enjoy. If I'm at a concert I might. I met my husbands friends from Belgium a few years ago, husband and wife, and they were talking about when Jason went to their wedding in Belgium, and how all the ladies wanted to dance with him. He told them I never dance with him, and they were shocked. They said "Don't you know how well he dances? Women were lined up to dance with him!" and actually I didn't know!

Day 5: It has been raining so much here. Yesterday, I got to go on a walk, and it had been a long time since the last one! It takes me about an hour to walk around our country "block" and about 15 minutes after I got back it started to really pour. The whole time I was walking it was sunny and dry though, so that's what I'm thankful for.

I'm with you Erin - no dancing :)

Day 5: I'm thankful for our church family - some of them just popped by for a surprise visit, and I just love it :) We are not members of this church, as we have just recently started attending, but I do enjoy their fellowship very much - all but one or two couples are our grandparents age - but so sweet and kind!

Day 6: I just couldn’t get into this one. I do have fond memories of trick & treating both as a child and a mother.

Today I am thankful for a good night’s sleep. I have one or two a year so when I do sleep well I consider it a blessing for the day.

Day 6: Trick or Treating... when I was a child we didn't need to go further than our own neighborhood for the best treats. We would spend hours getting ready, even my mother would dress up. I remember there was one old lady who would always have the best treats. She must have spent a week preparing candied apples, pop-corn balls, home-made candies, cookies and cup cakes, and more. She would invite us in to help ourselves to her treat covered kitchen table. But, when it came time for my kids to start making rounds, we weren't living is a "Halloweeny" area so we would drive them to the neighborhood that was all heavily decorated for trick or treating. It was one area that would always deliver the most and best treats, like when I was their age.

Today, I am with Sara on being thankful for a good night's sleep. It seems the older I get, the fewer I get of them. If I didn't take a shot of Nyquil once in a while I wouldn't get many good nights at all.

Day 6: As a child, my favorite part of trick or treating was going to an older family's house... All of their kids were in college or close to it, so we were more treated like grandchildren. Generally speaking, when we went there, we stayed for awhile and ate fresh doughnuts. It was an old farmhouse and honestly, my dream house! It was from there that I started saying one day I would have a farm, though I don't remember any critters on their farm, just crops. But it was still where my dream started. As for my children - we do not celebrate Halloween. So no trick-or-treating for us. But we do celebrate Fall, just like the rest of the seasons, near the beginning with traditional things like picking apples, finding beautiful leaves (a real challenge here since everything goes from green to brown), etc.

Today I am thankful for my hubby's injection going pretty well for him! He had a back injection on Thursday for the herniated discs. Last time he had them done, he was barely able to move for the first 48 hours. This time, while he slept most of Thursday (he was drugged), he was able to get around yesterday and even paint. Today he is sore, but overall able to move :) Very thankful!

Day 6: I probably trick or treated up until I was really too old for it. We do celebrate Halloween and I love it. I decorate the house, jack o lanterns, banners, all of that. The neighborhood in Fort Wayne that we used to live in was always SO busy. I swear they bussed in for our neighborhood. I would literally start stocking up on candy in August. It was insane. Now that we live in the country I don't have to worry about it, and we're close enough to town that it's just a couple minute car ride for the kids. We also have quite a few places that do trunk or treat, and when you have little kids, those are nice.

Today I am thankful for our riding lawn mower. When we first moved here, my husband used a push mower the whole first year, because we couldn't afford to buy one. It took him a couple days to mow the lawn. Now we have our rider, and I love it. He does the outline and ditch, and then I take over and do the rest. I love mowing! :) And today it's not supposed to rain, so we should actually be able to get it done.

Day 6: We don't do trick or treating, neither did I when I was little.

Today I'm thankful for the beautiful ocean that God created! No matter how my day is going - if we go to the ocean I feel better :)

Joyce, I feel like that about Lake Michigan. Probably because I grew up in the Midwest and not on a coast, but I know what you mean. Something about beach air is just the best.

Day 7: Ummm yeah... I have no use for cops right now after our recent experience, but I guess that is all I will say on that one. Actually - funny story... I have only been pulled over for speeding once... I was 19, headed home from college to go spend the weekend with my younger sister... and got pulled over. Being naive, I had no clue how "weird" his questions were... I ended up giving him both my addresses (home and college) as well as phone numbers. Then he gave me my ticket - which wasn't really high, but broke my heart nonetheless, because I am not normally one to speed! Less than a week later, the cop called my house I was renting for college and asked me out on a date! I told him if that is all he wanted he shouldn't have written me a ticket, and refused to go out with him!

Today I am thankful for fathers... It is Father's Day after all :) I am thankful for the father my hubby is... for having a relationship with his children. I am thankful for my own father - for the work ethic, determination (some would say stubbornness) and lessons he instilled. Most of all, though, I am thankful for my Heavenly Father - Who loves me unconditionally. Who chastises out of love. Who never forsakes me. Who cares even about the miniscule details. Who helps me through the hard times. Who forgives me, though I don't deserve it. Who has taken the punishment of my sins and saved me from eternal damnation. Who created me. Today I am thankful for the Godhead - Three in One!

Day 7: I thought about today’s reading to see if I could get a deeper meaning out of it. Then it came to me. When I see a cop it’s like seeing my own conscience. That spiritual thing living inside of me that keeps me on the straight and narrow path. So the next time I see a cop, and I feel stress creep over me I hope I remember he’s there not only to help and protect me but to keep me focused on doing the right thing.

Today I’m thankful for the Lord’s Day and that I live in a country that still has religious freedom.

Day 7: Agree Shannon, not much use for cops here either. I once watched a cop pull a guy over right in front of my house, less than 50 feet from my window. The guy did all he was told, then the beat on him and arrested. I watched it all unfold. The guy had done nothing at all, even when the cop hit him. A few days later the guy showed up at my doorstep asking if I had seen what had happened and asked if I would testify for him at court. Of course I would, and did. Long story short,
court day came, I testified exactly what I had witnessed; the cop gave his version of the event, completely different. The guy was found guilty. The court believed the cop (who had a reputation for being an arrogant, aggressive sob). Since that time I have little use for cops. That was in the very early 80's. Somethings never change.

About the only thing I can thank my father for are his genes. He ran out on us when I was two, and left my mom with three very young children (he was already gone when my sister was born 16 months after me). My first husband was never a good father; he provided for us but that was all.

I am thankful for my DH to whom I have been happily wed for 11 years. He is the best friend, lover, husband and father to my children and exceptional grandpa to their kids. We have been together for 14 years. He works hard to provide a good life for me, and he always puts family first. He loves my children, and grandchildren as his own. He is good, kind, honest, devoted and generous to a fault.

Each day I thank heaven for sending him to me.

Well, yesterday I attempted twice to show my gratitude. LOL. Both times my posts ended up somewhere in cyber space.
So this is for day 6: Our family did participate in trick or treat. We lived in a wonderful, safe neighborhood! My favorite part was planning/putting together the costumes for my younger sister (8 yrs younger) and myself from things at home. One year I was so desperate for an idea she went out as a paper bag. ha.

Yesterday I was so grateful for you Wildflowers. We went to an Herb Festival! "Awesome"! The music was wonderful! We met a vendor couple who, surprisingly, live just a few miles from us. He raises bees and sells honey. We have purchased his honey for years and had never met him. She raises herbs and perennials. This woman was so very helpful in explaining the herbs I chose to buy. So, I was so excited and wished you were all there.

I was also grateful for the wonderful packet I received from Sara! Sara, you rock! The smell of the herb packet was so comforting. It immediately brought on memories of yummy bean soup! Thank you, for the recipe. (And, on our Wildflower paper). I know just what to do with that sweet piece of fabric. Thank you!

Day 7: I am thankful for the father of my children, my wonderful husband, Jason. He is such a great dad. He plays with our kids, reads to them, puts them to bed most nights. I know how lucky I am. I have quite a few friends who do it all themselves because their husbands just don't think they should be bothered to help out with the kids. I love him very much and thank God for him daily.

Okay. I may be a little unpopular on this one. I happen to think the majority of the police department in the community I grew up in, and the smaller areas we live near are awesome! I have been stopped several times since I started driving at the ripe old age of 32. I've had a few warnings; but, never a ticket! Awesome! One time a "cop" car was pulled over to the side of the road with lights flashing. So, of course I pulled my car over. He sat there for awhile. Then he walked over to my car. I rolled down my window..totally stressed. He said, "Ma'am, can I help you?" I said, "Your lights were flashing. So, I pulled over." He said, "Ma'am, my lights are supposed to be flashing when I am stopped on the road." (said with a straight face.) I said, "Oh." (said with a red face) He let me go without a warning. (Big sigh) I'll bet there were a few chuckles at the station that day.

Today I am grateful for the visit last night from my son, DIL and two g-gds, Melody and Ballad. Simple supper, good company! Crazy energy. I am grateful that it is quiet so far today.

Judith - oh how I loved your story! :) While I am not crazy about police at the moment, I do have some family members (one of my brother-in-laws, and 2 cousins) that are all police officers. I know that at times they are just doing their job and their hands are tied. However, i think there re also times when they misconstrue facts to suit their fancy. But everyone is like that, in every job... it just depends on the day. I think what I really need to do is try to look at conflicts and situations with a more open mind, hearing both sides, without prejudice, especially when it comes to my children, as I know how it feels to know I was in the right and should be protected, but am not. Reality check for this momma on a few different levels.

Shannon, I think I can understand where you are coming from re police. My family has had their bad times with them also. Like when we had to rescue my daughter from a domestic violence situation. This went on for months/years. We followed all the rules. But, Mr. came out smelling like the proverbial rose every time. He is what they used to call a sociopath. It's a "walking on egg shell without breaking them" kind of situation until you are all out of that situation. Big Hugs! Also, a friend of ours lost her autistic son when an officer over-reacted to a behavioral incident. It was a shoot first-ask questions later situation. Sometimes, I think law-enforcement needs re-training on handling calls. I could go on and on. We have also had good times like when I worked for the Mayor and worked directly with the PD, and when they followed through with an assault report from a grand daughter. They are just human..like you and me. Yup! We can all use re-training sometimes.
