Here is a great recipe for a pork roast- my family loves it and so do my husbands guys (he owns a construction company)

1 tsp each of fresh tarragon, thyme and rosemary
1/2 tsp of salt
1/2 tsp of garlic powder
1/2 tsp of curry powder
1/2 tsp of pepper
1 boneless pork loin roast (about 4 lbs)
1 cup of BBQ sauce
1 1/2 tsp of prepared mustard
2 tblsp brown sugar
3 small onions cut into chunks
3 celery ribs cut into chunks
3 medium carrots cut into chuncks
6 medium potatoes cut into chunks
1/3 cup of veg oil
1/2 cup of chicken broth

Combine herbs, salt, garlic powder, curry powder and pepper and rub over roast. put in all else and cook on high- I cook on high for 4 hours and low for 4 hours- it's great!

OOps- I fill the rest of the crockpot with water as the liquid is not enough i do not think- you can also add some chiken boullion cubes to just water if you want and do not have any broth.

JoAnn: Same amount of Old Bay - 3 tablespoons. I also added 1 tablespoon of Rice Wine Vinegar (but it isn't necessary) because I have this strange-but-unsubstantiate-believe that vinegar helps break down fat.

Sheryl-lyn: Regaring the nasty "grease factor", I actually trimmed a good portion of fat off of the pork roast before I put it in the crock pot. Because the crock pot holds in so much moisture, I don't think pork needs quite as much fat crock-cooking as with other methods like roasting or grilling (because they can dry the meat out, I usually leave that fatty layer on.) I still have to skim, but it's not *swimming* in fat.

I also trim the fatty layer off of other "cheaper" cuts of meat if I'm going to crock 'em. I'm not one for believing that "...only the best will do...", if you know what I mean; I think there are plenty of perfectly good cuts that can be crock-potted. Like big honkin' pot roasts - they just need to be crocked for a good long time. Only thing is: cheaper cuts with fatty layers have to be pretty well thawed to get that layer of thick fat off. ~ K

I make soap in my crockpot. Really, I do. ;)
I also like to cook my beans in it too. I have one for food and one for soap.

Okay...I have to ask. I am in Canada, and have looked for "Old Bay", but cannot find it. Does it go by any other names, or do we just not carry it north of the border?

Mary Jane Old Bay is made by McCormicks. I called their 800 number and they gave me the Canadian division's 800 number and they said they carry it at Sobey's in Nova Scotia (Maritimes) I don't know if you have one near you. Remember check by the fresh meat or seafood departments. JoAnn

EmmJay:

Yes - it *does* go by another name...a few, I think. I have also bought it under the name McCormick's Chesapeake Bay Style Seafood Seasoning and one of my friends uses the Gourmet (blue-cap) Seafood Seasoning which tastes similar enough, just packaged *much* smaller. Check some online vendors... ~ K

I LOVE my crockpot! If they took all other appliances from me I could live totally happy with my crockpot. I think it is because I do not really like to cook. I like to eat..just not cook or clean up. The crockpot makes both easy (only one pan) I have frequently just plopped a chicken in the pot and turned it on with no seasoning and loved the way it fell apart. I will now be on the look out for OB.
Let me give you one of our fav recipes. Actually this is what DH calls his Two Dollar stew recipe from his batchelor days. He used to do it in a stewpot, but I graduated it to the crockpot.

1 lb of Kielbasa (I use the low fat turkey kind)or 1 lb of any sausage for that matter
5 cans of veggies juice and all.
Cut up the sausage dump all in the pot and cook. goes great with cornbread

I guess I am a "dump" cook too. As I just add to this recipe whatever I have available. I season with Mrs Dash zesty blend alot and I try to make sure one of my veggie cans are tomatoes, but this recipe will work with just about anything. Hope you like it.
There are some great recipes here I can't wait to try Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the tips Kaylyn. I plan to use my CP this week since I have much to do at school as we get ready for end of year activities. I will try some of the recipes, making sure I cut fat off if I use pork.

I also use cheap pieces of meat for cooking in the CP. I don't see any difference once it is all cooked up.

Melanie....sorry I have not been looking at this posting....
Wonderful!
I am actually going to town tomorrow, and will be checking the Sobey's there. What is the name here in Canada, and then I can look for it specifically.

Oh Melanie, you are too kind. I will definitely be sending you a little something as well......hmm, I did buy several half aprons at Value Village last week, while in Moncton. You interested?
Seriously, some are not that great, but they are aprons, and were only 99 cents for the bunch.

My chicken is in the oven now (crock pot not big enough) and the smell is W O N D E R F U L !
Thanks again, Melanie.

EmmJay it will be interesting to hear how it came out being done in the oven instead of the crockpot. Don't you think it smells like the sea? I suggested to my mother who just has a small crockpot and lives alone to just put a part of the chicken in and of course add less Old Bay. I'm off to make a asparagus, potato and chicken bake over. JoAnn....it is absolutely fabulous!!!!!
I cooked it really slow (overnight) and put just a smidgen of water in the bottom of my roaster. Wow, to wake up smelling the chicken.......I am having chicken, potato salad, and raw veggies for supper today. The kids love raw veggies for dipping.
MJ

Oh, and thank you so much for the recipe.
