I love pottery! Have you ever made (thrown) pots Anna? It is such an amazingly theraputic hobby. Wood firing takes a TON of work! We have a woodfire kiln at our cabin. It takes about 48-72 hours of constant attention to fire but we can fit in about 100 pots at a time. We try to get a crew of about 10 people to man the kiln for a firing so no one gets too tired.
My brother in law is a professional potter, but several of us in the family like to be hobby potters :)

I live in Clark co. I'd have to say the annual Clark co. fair and rodeo. I've only lived here 4 years and we are finally this spring and summer going to start attending some events that go on in our area. So who knows those events might attract a huge crowd as well.

I live in Spokane County, in Eastern Washington. We have lots of little festivals and events. My personal favorite is October Fest up at Greenbluff, which is a wonderful area of orchard filled foot-hills. It is always full of great fruit, music, hayrides, etc. Just good country fun. We have gone the second or third Sunday of October every year since I was pregnant with our first . . . who is now 15. The kids always pick their own pumpkins there and then we go home, carve the pumpkins and I roast the seeds. The last couple years the boys have also done a bungy jumping thing too that they think is great fun! My dream farm would be located right on Greenbluff someday . . . with a huge barn for my antique sale!

I never have thrown- although one family we are frineds with , the husband offers all the time. It looks hard.
Last week the husband was working on a really big pot. He had the base all ready and was in the process of winding a thick coil around to connect another larger piece. I assisted in placing the coil to keep some of the pressure off the sides of the base. Very tedious. Once the pot is completed, it will stand roughly 3 feet tall and have 3 large sections that make it whole.
It's very tough so I respect everyone who has opted to make this their livelihood.
hubby and I have cut oak slabs in preparation for a kiln firing. that in itself is back breaking enough!
Another friend has recently branched off from his family and has his own pottery shop. He also sells a blend of shade grown coffee and fancy teas. So all the lid-lifters can grab a snack and a fancy coffee. His shop is right on the main drag, and right on my way home too, so often I'll stop in and get a Mocha. Coffee has enabled him to get his shop off the ground and running.
Seagrove is so small there is no city water/sewage system.....it's all on septic, so places to eat are either the Hardees at the BP right off the main highway or a restaurant in the middle somewhere.
If I had $$ to blow, I'd develop a small strip mall with a few other eating options and include a hotel. Seagrove is missing out, but in some ways, the quiet and country setting are VERY nice!
Oh, and at times thefts occur, and it goes to show how stupid and ignorant they are. Most folks around us know to turn the piece over and look for a stamp or signature. Kind of obvious if something surfaces at a pawn or antique shop!
Three of the really big names around here is Mark Hewett (sp), Ben Owen, and Shelton. All these are generational potters. |

I live in Nelson county virginia- I guess our biggest attraction is Wintergreen Ski Resort. We have beautiful mountains here.
Hey-Cristine from Farmville- that is where I am from- in fact my Uncle Sam Wilson was president of Hampden Sydney for many years. Where in Prince Edward county do you live? My family is in Rice. |

| Here in LaSalle County, I'd say Starved Rock State Park. There is a huge indoor water park close by, and the little town beside it hosts a big burgoo every fall. |

I live in Multnomah County. The city of Portland is located in this county - some of our attractions within the city are - The Pittock Mansion - which sits up in the west hills looking east at Mt. Hood and the city skyline. From there you can go to the Rose Gardens and the Japanese Gardens. Of course there are all the shopping districts/neighborhoods. Most famous are NW 23rd, Hawthorne (east side of town) and now the Pearl District. We also have a new Tram that takes you from the southwater front (down on the Willamette) up to OHSU Hospital and School up on "Pill Hill"

I live in Clallam County, Washington on the Olympic Peninsula. There are alot of tourist attractions here including the ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria, BC but probably the biggest is the Lavender festival every summer. Lots of people are growing lavender now in Sequim.

I live in Jefferson County, Kentucky. Right now, our biggest attraction is Churchill Downs and the upcoming Kentucky Derby. We also have Actor's Theater and the recently completed Muhammad Ali Center. My favorites are our historic homes - Locust Grove(last home of Gen. George Rogers Clark), Farmington(mid 19th. cent. hemp plantation) and the Farmsley Moorman House(an honest to goodness plain old farmhouse that still has a wonderful view of the Ohio River).

I am actually originaly from Illinois too..
& we used to go to Starved Rock all the time!
i loved it.. especialy in the Fall..
I think this is something i miss more then anything in Florida..

I just watched a program the other day on Animal Planet that had Starved Rock featured in one of its stories. It looked like a beautiful area. Nice and green with beautiful sandstone cliff formations.

I'm with Amy -- live in Clark County, WA and it's probably the Clark County Fair. And there is the Historic Reserve in downtown Vanouver with Fort Vancouver and Officer's Row. Right now the lilacs are in bloom so we're going to the Hulda Klager Lilac Festival on Sunday. The last three weekends were the tulip festival at a couple of the tulips farms north of here.

OK....I just have to say this. I live in Garfield County, Washington state. It's the least populated county in the state.
There are no tourist attractions here unless you like to watch the wheat grow. We don't even have a stoplight. I love it =~)

This county (Lyon) has been the fastest growing in the nation for several years and the town, Fernley, the fastest growing in the nation. Not that it makes most of us native Nevadans too happy, but it's a fact. The county is home to Dayton, where gold was first discovered in Nevada. Virginia City is in Storey county, but just up the hill from Dayton and well known for the silver mines in the Lincoln/civil war era. Reno is in Washoe county and for many years known as the divorce capital for the six week residency and easy divorces. For a long time, legal gambling and prostitution set Nevada apart from the other states. Most of our counties, except Washoe and Clark (Las Vegas) still allow prostitution and most states have some sort of gambling allowed now.

Well...I live in Lewis County WV and we have 2 large attractions...one of which is Jacksons Mill which is where the counties oldest homes are standing and where the Arts and craft Jubilee is held each year, people come from all 50 states to go to this event...check out the link and you will see why http://www.stonewallhospital.com/~jubileewv/index.htm , and the second thing is Stonewall Resort http://www.stonewallresort.com/ ...name says it all. Very classy and expensive. For small town living we sure have alot going on.

I live in Richardson County Nebraska, I think that our best attraction would be Indian Cave State Park. It's very nice there. They have camping and trails to walk. It sits along the Missouri River. Very pretty in the fall.

I live in Sevier County, Utah - and I'd have to say that one of the largest attractions here is the Sevier County fair, as well as the Paiute ATV trail - it's amazingly long and has people coming from all over the world for the Richfield ATV Jamboree. Not really my thing, but people seem to love it, and the trail is amazing!!!

I have friends who lives in Sequim, WA.....their goal in life is to taunt me with pictures of all the lavender & herb farms there in Sequim....so, since DH & I are moving to Spokane in the next couple monhts....one of my 1st "touristy" things on my agenda...bee-line it up to Sequim & jump into a bunch of lavender bushes!!!! hope the bees won't mind sharing! LOL!
