If you don't shop as soon as they are putting stuff out on the shelves, you don't get it later. It is crazy.

I finally had chance to work in garden. The heat is bothering me a lot. Half a raised bed now cleared out of about dead tomato vines. I have started zucchini and will plant tomorrow. I am working on several projects, freezer inventory, deep cleaning closets and other stuff. To go from temps about 110* to low 80's will get me in a cleaning mood. My husband out of town and I will organize and he won't even notice I moved microwave into garage.

From working in retail I have found that the sooner it is out the more people there are who will buy it. I don't like it either but they base what they do on what people ask for and when. Seems we can't wait to go from one holiday to the next anymore. I put my 4th of July stuff away so I could enjoy my summer decor. Usually I will leave it out until Labor day. September I love to bring out the Apple things and then the rest of Fall in October. I don't even bother looking for the seasonal stuff because I know pretty soon they will have all the seasons out at the same time at this rate.

I agree with what others are saying here about the rush to get season items out months in advance. I guess the stores benefit economically by putting stuff out ahead of time so many people have more time to shop. The longer things are out early, it seems like they will sell more merchandise because while they are shopping now for fall, all the available Christmas stuff is equally up for grabs. But, I agree with other comments here that the seasons and holidays have become commercial and about the money.. But they wouldn't do that if we the people didn't love shopping for fall in late June! From the reading I have been doing the past few years on life in America from 1900-1950s, commercialism exploded as the Industrial revolution here in the US was in full gear. When more people worked, they had more money to spend of many sorts of goods. Now , we can import relatively cheap stuff from foreign sources so there is more and more buying for pleasure and fun than ever before. The next problem is the growing amount of purchases that are ending up in landfills!

Funny saying of the day: my husband asked for a heavier blanket because of the cooler weather, and when I showed him what was in the linen closet he remarked sadly "Room service never makes my bed." I retorted, "Maybe you should tip room service more."

Finally a cooler day to work in the garden. And my back wasn't hurting. Oh what a lovely day! I spent 2 hours weeding and cleaning up 2 beds. I took time to sit by the hummingbird feeder to watch these incredible creatures. Their time in my garden is never long enough, and I will be missing them. I know they have a journey to take and am glad they chose my feeders to rest and fuel up.

Vanessa, I can't even imagine needing a heavier blanket !! I would love the opportunity to do just that. It seems like any cooler potential to move into Florida is stopped at the Florida /Georgia border and then dissipates. It will take a few more MONTHS until we get lucky and have cooler and drier days.

Sometimes the washer and drier leave me tips. I'm ahead 26 cents this week. No heavy blankets here either; maybe around early November.

No heavy blanket here either on the Pacific Northwest. Look what has finally popped out with the rain we have been getting. Growing these beautiful fall color sunflowers was a trial to see if I could grow them. Guess I can even though they appear to be late bloomers. But I do love them.

Happy Saturday everyone! I enjoy hearing what other Farmgirls are up to this September as Fall is beginning to show up in some of our more northern locations. We have had some cooler mornings but the heat returns by 2 in the afternoon and Summer heat is in full gear. I was in Rural King yesterday and they had their pumpkins in so I got 2 of them and decorated up my back porch for fun. One has to pretend down here in the Swamp that fall is showing up. I can't pass up a bright orange pumpkin with a big twisted stem!

Oh Winnie I love all the pumpkins out already too. But I think I will wait a bit longer to get my pumpkins. Still waiting for my Apples to finishing getting red. Almost time, I can not wait.

Even though we've had no rain for weeks, the hibiscus is blooming. I water the hydrangeas to keep them alive.

Beautiful hibiscus! Love that color. We enjoyed tea made from hibiscus in Mexico and Egypt.

My husband and I went to an orchard in NC about an hour from our home. We picked over 22 pounds of apples. A lovely late summer day. I'm glad we didnt wait til next month. The orchard had been picked over. Chunky applesauce, apple butter and dehydrated apple slices this weekend

My sunflowers are blooming now. I so love them. They are in a large pot that grew its own flowers. I look forward each year to seeing what the birds, wind, or the plants leaving their seeds behind, produce.

I was tired after making applesauce. I knew a t storm was forecasted today. I woke up with intense migraine. Pushed thru the day. Hubby helped. Mother Nature either be hot or cold, stop switching the seasons. Ha ha! Sylvia, I love sunflowers. I live in SC and mine crap out by Aug from the intense heat.

Tara, NC has wonderful apple orchards all up and down the western part close to the mountains. Your applesauce looks great!

My college Oregon Ducks beat Penn State-white out night with a huge very loud crowd! What a fun tradition they have! Unbelievable participation.
