I started a felting class last week. We are making a wall hanging. So, I am learning both wet and needle felting. I'm pretty excited. Can any of you recommend some good places to get materials like the needles? Any good websites would be appreciated. Thanks-
Megan

Megan,
That would be so much fun - I have seen some of the gorgeous flower fairies people make using needle felting and was wondering whether I could teach myself from a book. I really want to give it a try some day. Have fun!
Best wishes,
Jayne
Also, I finally posted your parcel today!

Jayne, You can do this! Very easy to just pick up & go. Certainly a book would help enough to give you the basics. My MIL gave me a needle, so one day while having issues with a particular doll's hair, I picked it up & "learned"! It made the neatest realistic looking hair! I loved using this method! The biggest thing to learn is to be careful with the needle, and not to stab yourself. You don't do this on your lap, and you should have a padded surface under your project!

Many of the rug hooking sites also carry needle felting supplies. You might try Kindred Spirits. I think they are really into this right now!

Megan, isn't it fun to take a class & learn something new!? There's always a sense of excitement and anticipation among the group! I have made felt from raw materials...is that what you are doing, or is this wet needle felting? Something new to me...??? Making your own felt is really neat as you can design as you go. I recently did a small project that I think came out kinda cool, and was easy to do. I took bars of homemade soap & felted all around them, making a kind of natural fiber scrubby for the bath. They look nice and smell yummy too! I think I sent a few out to farmgirls.

Fill us in on the details Megan, pretty please?

Simple Folk is another website. I have a couple of books and supplies to do this as well. I am going to try an felt a design on the scarf I am crocheting. I too want to take a class. There is one in my area, in May, for felting a hat.

Blessed Be!

Grace, I originally got some of your silk cocoons because i wantd to incorporate them into felting. The class I'm taking was actually cancelled due to lack of interest. So, I tracked the instructor down andasked if she'd be willing to teach me privately. It has worked out great bcause I get to see her studio/working space, her work, and her farm. She raises sheep and uses their wool for her felting. We are wet felting the "canvas" out of what looks like big batting. This week we will start the needle felting. I think I'm going to try to make a labyrinth pattern on mine, not sure yet. Anyway, Grace, I check out your etsy site often. I was thinking about ordering some more cocoons and soem roving. If you could get me some needles too that would great. I ordered a handle with six needles, but don't have any individual needles yet. Do you ever custom dye your cocoons, if I gave you some color requests? Let me know. I'd be happy to get to do business with you again, I love everything I've gotten from you so far.

Thanks for website suggestions, always fun to check them out and get more ideas.

Let me know Grace!

Hi Megan
I am so happy that she was willing to do that - I have never placed a "have to have" number of students on a class for just that reason - I am very willing to teach privately.

I can custom dye cocoons and silk rods and will be placing tons on etsy soon as soon as my taxes are done. As for the felting needles I have sizes 20,36,38,40 and 42. I sell them as single so you can try a variety but if you email me privately I can give you the prices and if there are any deals available. Just let me know how I can help you out - you will have so much fun doing this and I want to assist you if I can. Thanks.
