Jean I have three that I bought online I can send you right now but more should be here by the end of the week. What I have now are pieces and smaller than the pieces you sent us before. How many people are you short sacks for?

The little red hen asked her friends, "Who will help me plant the seeds ?" "Not I," barked the lazy dog . "Not I," purred the sleepy cat . "Not I," quacked the noisy yellow duck . "Then I will," said the little red hen .

Niki -- I came out just fine on the Feed Sacks from the ones that MaryJane sent. So no need to send any. I received several from Joan P. today. I'll need to use one of them myself but will be able to return the rest to her. Thanks again for your generous offer.
hugs,
jean

I noticed there are 3 printings of the Persian Pickle Club - 1995, 1996, and 2014. Any ideas what changes were made/ added?

There are several other books on Feedsacks on Amazon.com. One is all about dolls and several about quilts. What a great era of feedsacks and how women were frugally recycling way back then.

TreeLady Julie just missed signing up for this swap -- bummer!! But she sent me these photos of two adorable clothes pin bags. The blue one is the original that she had. The red one is the new one that she made. Aren't they just too too ???

OK Jean - I will hold on to them and keep on the look out in case we do a Round Three or another smaller Swap with Feed sacks. Many of the ones I purchased online from Ebay were smaller sections than the one I received from you for the last Swap.

DoctorDar (Darlene) and I have touched base and exchanged addresses and are ready to get started. I have my own Feed Sacks and I think she is waiting on hers.

Quiltright (Christy) I didn't forget you!!! I am finishing your Project from the first go round! I hope you find it worth the wait! I had to dust off my machine sewing skills. My daughter had to remind me how to do the bobbin and thread the machine a couple times... or 100!

Does that ring a bell with any of you? It sure brings back some fun childhood memories for me. Before the days of technotoys and during the hard times of the depression and WWII, children were quite resourceful and creative in the games they played. And while today so many are buried behind their computers/cell phones, in those days they were running and playing with their friends outside in the sunshine. There was no extra money to buy expensive toys, so they learned at a very young age how to recycle and “make do” such as in the popular game, Kick the Can. Here’s a list of the ones I remember. Can you add to the list?
Marbles
Hide and Go Seek
Drop the Handkerchief
Kick the Can
Mother May I
Simple Simon
Tag
Jump Rope
Hop Scotch
Homemade Scooters
Roller Skates

Wwe played Jacks. We often played Roy Rodgers and Dale Evans. We piled up Tumble Weeds to make forts and houses, corrals for our broom sticks which were our ponies. We pinned old receiving blankets
To the top of our heads. Why? I do not know. Our little brother had his hat, pistols, a bandana wild rag, and his coon skin cap. We sang...Davey, Davey Crocket...king of the wild frontier. Borned on a mountain top in Tennessee....

so imagine my surprise 11-12 years later when my new hubby said that his family tree had Rebecca Boone, Daniels wife in it...and she was buried at Acton, Texas. That is about 30 miles from our house. They have a memorial to her there.I

Then a few years later he dropped another historical name. Daniel Boone is his great grandfather, six generations back. That is on his maternal side. So our son and grand daughters are his descendents too...and now little Jasper.

A while back Heather mentioned the movie "Cinderella Man". We ordered it from NetFlix and watched it last night. Awesome film -- true story of Jim Braddock a down and out seemingly washed up fighter during the depression who makes a marvelous comeback and like the beloved racehorse Seabiscuit becomes a folk hero and inspiration to the masses during the Great Depression. Be forewarned that there are some brutal fight scenes, but if you can handle that the story is mesmerizing. Thanks Heather for telling us about it.

Kathy -- did you find that War Cake recipe? Sure would love to see it. Just got a simple but fun book from Amazon -- "Hard Times Cookbook with Back to Basics Great Depression Cooking" by Anna Patterson. It's an easy read with photos and very simple recipes.

SPECIAL ALERT **** Due to unforeseen circumstances , feed sacks were sent out later than I had originally intended. That combined with our current post office woes got me to thinking that we should extend the "mail by" date for this swap. I wanted to give y'all around a month to complete your creations. So, let's move that date up from March 31 to April 10.
Farmgirl hugs,
jean
