So far, I've "met" Quiltee (Linda) and Katmom (Grace) who do machine embroidery. Any others out there? Any interest in starting a machine embroidery challenge or swap or sharing tips, or whatever strikes our fancy? Could be fun and informative. I have lots of ideas to get us started . . . . first project could be a "get acquainted" project and limited to a 4x4 in design, so all could participate no matter what their machine limitations. Or, if you haven't made a Stitch Book yet for your particular machine, we could start with that. You learn soooooooo much about your machine by making one. Think about it and let me know what you think. jean |

I really have not done machine embroidery for a long time. And I don't have many patterns, though I know there are lots of free patterns available on line. It would be fun to hear what people are doing.

Linda, does your machine have any pre-programed in patterns?
Maybe you, Jean and I could do a embroidery ornament swap.. simple, easy peasy like the red work one I did..
to keep the cost down,, we could send it sewn but not stuffed, that way it can go flat in a regular envelope w/50cent postage and the recipient can stuff and sew closed...
Just a thought...

Kathy, OK so I forgive you for sewing with a Bernina rather than a Viking Hahahahahaha . . . what's the ole saying, "You say tomato, I say tomahto. So what do y'all think about Grace's (Katmom) idea about an ornament. Shall we maybe start with a flat "treat" for Halloween? Make whatever you want as long as it fits in a regular envelope. So far it looks like it would be Jean from Idaho (JeanP) Grace from WashCalif -- where in the world is that? (Katmom) Linda from Texas (Quiltee Kathy, another newbie like me from Kansas (isewbernina) If we don't get any other's interested we could make do three -- and send one to each of the other three. If we get more than we can organize it like a swap with partners. Waddaya think? We're still in the planning stage here, so let's brainstorm -- all ideas welcome. And, do y'all see we've got a teacher in our midst -- Woo Hoo -- welcome Kathy.

Yaaaay Kathy . . . works for me. Anyone else in?? Katmom? Quiltee? Let's play trick or treat. Only "rule" is that it is flat and fits in a regular envelope. It's OK if it's an ornament like Katmom suggested and we can stuff it when we receive it. It probably should be sent no later than October 15. Should be easy peasey for machine embroidery. Contact each other via the email link for addresses. OK on a new thread (pun intended) here -- Have you all made stitch books? The very very best thing you can do to really get to know your particular machine intimately. jean |

Oh, yeah . . . I have a Featherweight too and you are so right, Kathy. It is also my "go to" machine for strait stitching. Sending you my address via "private" email. You can reply to that with yours. I have something interesting to share with you about Salina Kansas . . . :) |

Jean, funny you mentioned 'stitch' books, I have 2 separate binders, one for 4x4 patterns and the other for 5x7.. I often make a sample of a pattern and then jot down notes, like 'easy peasy' or 'outline doesn't line up by foot'.. total sewing time including thread change,, etc.. I have 'page/sheet' protectors, and I drop in the photo and color chart as well as the 'sample' in the protectors. It is a great resource to have on hand.

What a great idea. I'll have to do that too. The stitch books I was referring to are simply the programmed stitches that are on your machine. I found I actually used so few of them. But once I made the stitch book and could see how they stitched out, I refer to it all the time and use many more of the built in stitches. I'll take a photo and post it. Cool that you are playing with us. I'll email you my addy if you'll do likewise. Now we are three . . . |

Lets do it. Jean, Grace which of you are organizing this swap? Kathy

Hahahahaha . . . . no queen bee here Kathy. There are just three of us so we can each have input and do whatever we want. So right now it looks like between us we have decided: 1. Make small embroidered projects that will fit in a regular envelope unless otherwise instructed because of a special theme. 2. Each of us will send one to each of the other two. If we get more interest, we can always convert to a regular swap. 3. If it's a holiday theme that month, it should be sent to arrive at least a week or so before the holiday. 4. Kathy's suggestions are good to get us going for the rest of the year - October Halloween, November Thanksgiving, December Christmas. 5. Grace's suggestion about sending "unstuffed" ornaments, etc. is terrific. Please add any other thoughts that come to mind. We are creating this little challenge between the three of us. We may decide just to do these three. Or we might want to continue into 2021 in which case we would need some theme suggestions so put on your thinking caps. . . . perhaps "2020 Sucked" for January . . . Hahahahaha . . . . sometimes ya just gotta laugh to keep from crying. jean |
