At the last guild meeting they drew #8 on the UFO list so that is what I'm working on today.

I started working on another UFO this week. I tried making a graphgan pillow a couple years ago and my tension was to tight and incorrect with all the color changes. I have ripped it out and started all over. I am about a quarter way done and the sizing is staying correct throughout. That makes me happy.

I am going to try my hand at crocheting a couple of bees for my great nephew Wally. I have never crocheted anything but scarfs, afghans, potholders and dishcloths so we will see. I bought a kids/adult easy bee kit so I am hoping I can do it. I will keep y’all posted.

Because of my travels, I have been working on #2, #3, #4, and #10 for UFO drawings at meetings I missed. Yesterday I got the top of one Halloween WH done. Today I finished sewing all blocks from my 2014 strip swap together and have been cutting the leftover strips into 5-1/2" strips for a piano key border for the top; I have sewn together one side strip so far. The blocks qare 10" so there will be a 2" inner border of black and then a 5" piano key border. I am thinking of making smaller 5" blocks like the main blocks for the 4 corners.

Here is a picture of the blocks - the main part of the quilt top.

And here is a picture of the Halloween Wallhanging top. It was a kit, and I think it turned out nicely. All the pieces are machine appliqued with a blanket stitch variation (the only blanket stitch in the machine I used). The Black of the eyes and the "teeth" are done on the machine, too.

The second Halloween WH I have to finish was started by my cousin before she passed away. She already had ironed on all the pieces, so I am trying to decide how to best machine quilt it. There are quite a few very small things to applique, so I need to figure out which applique method is best.

And today I got the last of the fabric I need for the third Halloween WH, so I need to get staarted on cutting it out.

Linda -- beautiful! It looks like the Bento box quilt I made for my grandson and his dog ate. Cute little Chessie cat on the wall hanging.

Thanks, Judith.I've done a Bento Box and this was done quite differently, but it looks similar. LOL! I had to redo the directions; the ones given to us were not an easy way to do it at all, in fact they made it a lot more difficult. I simplified them for me and it went a lot faster.

Linda -- when I did mine I just did it from a picture without any directions. It took some figuring out and moments when I wondered what I got myself into. Here is a picture of it before the dog got it.

Judith -

I love your quilt, too.

The traditional Bento box quilts I've made (I made 2 of them) were made from a large block that was cut into 4 pieces, then sewn back together with 3 other quarter-block blocks. Is that how you made yours?

For my quilt above, we had a swap for 2-1/2" Black and White strips, and directions on how to cut them for the middle 4-patch. Then we added a 1-1/2" strip of whatever we wanted around the 4-patch. Then the directions were where I changed them. I cut the sets of the 2 fabrics used in the middle 4-patch into 2 3-1/2" sets and 2 5-1/2" sets and sewed them together with 1/4" seam and added to the sides matching the white and black prints. So each block was made independently and wasn't a quarter of a larger block. LOL!

Which method did you use?

Debbie those bees look so cute! Let me know how they turn out. I’m trying to learn granny squares right now. I’m an advanced knitter but struggle with crochet. Trying to make a whimsygoth granny square bag for my eldest 22nd bday in one month! I’m struggling to match the pattern. This one looks better than the first several lol. Definitely have to block them. I bought extra yarn so I could practice hopefully I can get enough good ones made before I run out!

Linda - I made each square individually -- I never thought about making big ones and cutting them apart. If there is a way to make things harder I will find it-- LOL

Shennnandoah - I love the fall colors of your granny square. Great job! Making granny squares was something I always wanted to do.

Debbie, that sounds like fun! I made a tiny bee similar to that a couple years ago. I bet you can make them just fine!

Linda, your Halloween wall hanging is so dang cute! You sure have been busy.

Judith, that quilt is beautiful! I really love the colors. That is a bummer the dog got to it.

Shennandoah, you will get it and your eldest is going to love the bag. I look forward to seeing it complete!

My graphgan is coming along. I have set myself a goal of finishing 4 rows a day. This goal with make the graphgan complete by the end of August. All the color changing causes a big tangled mess no matter what I do!

Krista it is coming along well; I'm sure you will have it done in time for graphgan season. I think with color changing it will always look a mess until it is done. I don't know how you keep track of it all.

It's such a thrill to see your "babies" get awards! The Chicken quilt, made from fabric sent by Debbie for FGOTM 2023,got 3rd place in the machine quilted category.

The Peacock quilt got a blue ribbon in the hand and machine made category.
They will both be used and loved.
