Well farm girls,, here we are,, 2018... with so many wonderful ideas for celebrating 2018..

How about celebrating by honoring our garden pollinators...
bees, butterflies, humming birds, bats and so many others.

I think I will make a garden pollinator themed apron...

and,,, I think I will challenge myself to grow something new, that I have never planted before in my garden.. like Hops...

How will you celebrate your Farm Girl celebration 2018???

Grace I'll join you in the garden to celebrate our 2018 Jubilee. I haven't had a hummingbird feeder in years so I'll hang one this year on my front porch. A hummingbird garden flag would be fun to make too.

Is there beer making in your future? Or, what other things can you do with hops?
I'm putting a plant known as Mexican oregano but it isn't an oregano. It's put into salsa. Can hardly wait for spring.

I grew Mexican oregano last year and it did good in northeast Texas. I like it better fresh but it dries easy so I had it for beans all winter long. It didn't winter over so I will have to replace it. We had several nights of 9 and days in the teens.

Yay! Grace this is a great idea! I love our pollinators here on our Homestead! I planted all organic vegetables last year and all the flowers that best fit the pollinators. Built a Mason bee house. And planted herbs that best fit the bees and the flowers and the butterflies. This year my focus is even more on them. So I'm in!

I will plant annuals that attract pollinators and am going to plant Okra for the first time ever. Apple mint will be grown in a pot, also.

Okra like squash/pumpkins have beautiful blossoms - bees love it.

Okay, just so I can keep straight what's happening - is "Lets Celebrate 2018 in the Garden" our theme for this year. I like it and it has my vote.

I plan to dig out my flower bed (well weed bed) in the front my bay window just outside my craft room. I want to start an herb garden there. It has plenty of sun and I can see it from my window. I plan to get all my pots ready for planting that will be place around my porch. I have bird feeders and hummingbird feeders that I need to clean up too and hang up. My garden tools need some cleaning and oiling too! A merit badge requirement too. A garden banner sounds like a good project too. I can do that on one of the rainy days forecasted this next week!

Thank you Grace, I have been waiting for this years Jubilee theme, garden pollinators is a great idea. I will have to give this some thought. I have only seen two hummingbirds in the six years we have lived here, and only the ants and squirrels ever enjoyed my feeder. For starters I have wanted to plant some milkweed for the Monarch butterfly, now I will get serious about that. Hugs Karla

Suny58... I luv Mason Bees... they truly are buzzing little work horses!
I could always count on them to be out in my lavender field... just happy to buzz around me while I would cut an harmfully of lavender to dry.

I need to re-read up on the 'zones ' where I am at.
I lived just a mile up the road before...and was a zone 4A... but not sure
about here... there are a lot of mini micro climates here...
I do want to plant Peony's as well... preferably Heritage ones if I can get
my hands on some rhizones ....
ahh... this will be a fun year to celebrate MaryJanes Farm Jubilee
In the Garden...

Oh Grace I love this Years theme “In the Garden” and celebrating the Bees, Butterflies, Hummers and more.
My girlfriends Son and his wife are having a baby in 3 months and I have chosen the bee as my theme for the baby gifts.
I will also try to plant a new herb in my window garden, not sure which one yet. I think a new flag is in order for my garden outside as well maybe a Beautiful Butterfly.
One last thing Beautiful red Geraniums in pots on my back deck the hummers and butterflies will love it.
Oh the fun we will have.

Hugs,
Deborah (My birth name, just found out) I love this name!

Katmom, I love this idea, too! (My three bee hives thank you.) Fun! Especially nice to think of a 2018 garden today--snowing like the dickens out right now and seriously winter still. I imagine it's the same thing in the valley. Make sure you show us your garden pollinator themed apron:)

Will this help, Dianna? After dark the other night, my grandgirls built two "snowdaughters."

Being as how we're neighbors now, Katmom, doesn't this speak 90%? I proceeded down this path this morning to pick some greens from my greenhouse, but first I had to shovel out the gate and then the door so it would open. Shovel, shovel, shovel.

I love snow! Lots of snow! No I'm not crazy! I love snow because it gives my creative juices a workout. Quilting, needlework, beading, sewing and all th fun stuff you can do inside. Spring becomes more precious when you have to wait for it, anticipation teaches patience.
I love the garden theme! Ordering seeds now!
