What the heck is "homespun" anyway? I thought it was just the old look of the fabric (something I might see in Olson's Store, for example)...

Homespun is a woven fabric. The pattern is woven not printed. I have only seen varities of checked homespun.

Online definition:

Noun 1. homespun fabric - a rough loosely woven fabric originally made with homespun yarn
homespun "woven cloth originated in Mesopotamia around 5000 BC"; "she measured off enough material for a dress"
russet - a reddish brown homespun fabric

Here is a nice photo and definition:

I love homespun. I am working with it on a project right now.

Hope this helps and it is not a stupid question!

usually, homespun is loosely woven. If you use it in quilts of clothing articles, it is best to prewash it.

i have stripes in homespun as well as plaids and gingham.

They add a homey touch to quilts and make great aprons.
