I think some time ago I may have seen a group of my fellow farmgirls swapping quilt squares...? I have been sitting on the sidelines here, just watching everyone...well, this last week or so I have decided to jump in. I would like to see if anyone else is interested in swapping quilt squares...maybe just 6" squares, you chose the design, simple or not, we all don't have enough going on, right? There is always time for a new project. If you are interested let me know. We can figure it all out as we go along. should be fun...jess
I think we are all done here, glad everyone had fun, enjoy your squares!!! |

I would enjoy a quilt square swap. Let's decide on a size and maybe a color scheme (country colors, brights, batiks, retro).

Hi, I had suggested 6" just to keep it small, but i am so flexible we could make it any size. Any color scheme works for me. I have such a big collection to choose from, what do you think would be interesting to you? Maybe something very colorful. Spring and summer are on the way and I need color right now. I recently came across some very beautiful crazy squares, but it doesnt really matter to me. What do you think would be fun and interesting? I am up for all suggestions. |

I love brights. Sounds lovely. OK. I am up for a crazy nine patch. 6" is a very doable size for each one. Are we going to set a limit? 10 or 12? One for each of us. date for sign-up? March 15th? Jessica, so you want to coordinate? we could send blocks to you with return postage, and you swap them out to everyone. What do you think?

I am happy to coordinate, if you have any suggestions to help me keep it all organized please let me know. I love wisdom from the experienced. March 15th sign up date sounds great. I am happy to divide them all up and send them back out. So, bright colors, crazy nine patch with directions available from the abovementioned link, 6" squares. limit....mmmmm....how about 12? If you think that is a good number then 12 it is, if you dont like 12 then we can discuss it. I will happily take all your names, screen names, and addresses. So far, I think we have 4 participants, Nicie, sunshine, suzyhomemaker, and smoothiejuice. Maybe some more people would like to join us. What date should we make the due date for the squares? I am up for suggestions. What does everyone think about working this into their schedules? |

Hi Jessica, Count me in for the swap. 6" is an easy size to work with. As for colors/theme...you are wearing the hostess apron so I think what ever you come up with will be fun. I can hardly wait to create a crazy 9 patch. It's been over a year since my last quilt. tata-4-now

if we are doing 6 inch square please start you square at 8 inches when you first cut you 12 starter big swatches this will allow for the two seam allowances and will also allow for truing up. also is this 6 inches cut or 6 inches finished you need to know because 6 inches cut finishes at 5 1/2 inches and 6 inches finished needs to be trued up to 6 1/2 inches then we would start with an 8 1/2 inch block. In my opinion it is easier to to the block size in the instructions that way every one is making the same block for sure. if you mess with a pattern and every one changes it who is to say they are all doing the same changes.the finished pieces in the pattern square are only about 2.5 inches each so it will still look like small pieces even though you are working with a 12 inch square of fabric.

Sunshine it is a good thing we have you to make sure everything comes out square and uniform. I am so glad you are here to help. I think we should go for 6 1/2" cut so the finished would be 6". Thanks for joining us sewgirlie and katmom. Thanks for all your advice so far, sunshine. Let me know if I haven't covered anything else...jess |

Ok, so the blocks should be squared up to 6 1/2". We are using bright colors. We'll make 12 of them. We will use the instructions from allsorts link. Got it all. Thank you. I will email you, smoothiejuice/jessica for your mailing address. Sign-up until March 15th. Should be send them to you by April 1? Is that too soon?

Hello to all, I am new to this forum. I was surfing the net for a new block/charm swap group. The group I am currently in is slowly falling apart. I guess people are getting burnt out. If you need another person I would love to join you all. Let me know. Thanks Kathy |

she is not doing well lots of pain. WE have another cat scan on the 6th to see if they can figure out what is happening to her little body. She has missed 3 weeks of school out of the last 8. It is hard trying to keep her caught up and take care of her and let her rest. They are thinking maybe 4 different things that could be the culprit. Three of which need major operations that don't have a good success rate, which means life long problems. The last one doesn't need and operation and will cause major pain for about three more weeks till it goes away on its own weird to say but I am hoping and praying for that. Nothing like wishing three weeks of pain on your kid that barely lets her move but better that than a life of operation after operation that doesn't work well and still have the pain. We are nearing th ends of our means I am praying and hoping that my husbands start up takes off soon. IF it does we will be fine. Just really tight and two cat scans and an ultra sound and possible operation are a little daunting at the moment but it has to be done and all will work out well in the end it always does. That is not wishful thinking we just don't give up to easy at my house and we trust in the lord it has never failed us. have a lovely day and may God bless you and keep you safe my blog http://sunshinescreations.blogspot.com my web stores www.sunshines.etsy.com and http://vintagethreads.etsy.com |

Jessica, Just to get things straight...The deadline to sign up is March 15th? When would the "mail-out" date be? Meaning, when would you like them in your hands? This looks like such and easy block to make. Just stack and wack. What if you do not get 12 particitants? Are you still going to run the swap? What if we were to make two blocks for each person? For example, so far it looks like you only have 7 people. So we would make 14 blocks. 12 we would send to you for swapping and 2 we would keep for our self. Now as for the color.. It looks like everyone is leaning towards "bright". That is a nice and cheery arrangement. Do you want to limit it to just 3 colors or is it an anything goes choice. Do you want calico? Large print? Solids? Juvenile prints? Im I asking too many questions? Also, will you be emailing us directly at all, or will this only be through this forum? Ok I guess thats enough questions for now. I have a sewing room full of fabric. I guess I will be rummanging throung my stash this weekend. But then again, I am going to the NJ Quilt Fest this weekend. I might just need to purchase a new selection of fabrics just for this swap. Have a great day. Kathy

Just my 2 cents
Even if we don't get 12 people we can still trade 12 blocks because the blocks the way you make them no two are the same the extras if we have less than 12 can be tossed in a pile mixed up and distributed among every one and you still get 12 that way a simple 3 by 4 quilt. I would pretty much say anything goes except for the juvenile prints that is just my opinion because once you through them in it is pretty much a kids quilt. If you leave them out if people want a bigger quilt they can just add more blocks and make a normal size quilt. I think 3 colors is very limiting if you want real bright and cheery pick as many colors as you can which would be 12 and let each person pick their own. Variety is always better in a quilt. I think large small solid calico prints are all great. If you have a stash you are probably fine just using what you have. But by all means if you are like me adding to it is always fun. Normally in swaps once it is closed we all email the hostess and send her our addresses and she emails every one back with hers so we can all send her the package of block we also always include a sase ( self addressed stamped envelope so that they can be sent back to us in the same amount it took to mail them. I hope this helps you out. I am not the hostess but these pretty common practices.

Thanks sunshine, I was just in the middle of my response and here you are with all the answers. I think we should not worry about 12 people, we have a couple of weeks before the sign up deadline anyway. Yes, as much color as possible please. I do need some bright cheery color. I cannot wait to see what you all send. If everyone ends up with a finished product, I know some people dont get to finished all the time, please take photos and post them somewhere. I have looked at some of sunshines recent stuff on her blog, and some others around here have them too. I should figure out how to that it looks fun. Anyway, I just thought it would be fun to see what everyone end up doing with their squares. As far as a dealine for sending them to me, as soon as you get them done, or April 1st. If April 1st is not long enough for someone, please let me know. They do not take very long to make, so in a very short sitting they can be done. Some people have already sent me their addresses but I will send out a reminder email to everyone at the end of the sign up period. Sunshine, my 7 year old daughter would like to do something for your daughter any suggestions on what kinds of things she likes and dislikes? |

She is a typical 7 year old strawberry shortcake, dolls, hello kitty, are the characters she likes. She loves things that she can make or are hand made she gets that from me I think. She loves fairy tales and things like that. She doesn't have major dislikes other than older sister harrasing her which she has been good not to do to much lately since her sister hurts. I'll send you my address privately for the swap and if your daughter wants to send something that would be just fine with me I think children are sweet that way they like to think of others.

Thanks for the info, my daughter is working on something right now, she may need my help later, but for now she has sequestered herself in her room and is working on something that is apparently top secret. Hope whatever it is will brighten your daughters day. |
