I wear skirts and jumpers from time to time but unless I make them they are never long enough for my 5'11 frame as I like long skirts. I wore my new recycled skirt to my parents tonight and my mom just couldn't figure out why I would do that to a pair of jeans. LOL!! I feel my inner hippie coming to life.

i love long gypsy skirts and the 'layered' look .. i find that since travelling to africa .. i have been wearing a lot of 'cargo' pants. sooooo comfy! and WARM .. with my 'leg warmer' socks!

In warm weather, I wear skirts most of the time.
I just love the way they feel and, don't know if this is just my perception of this but I seem to get much better service when I go out looking nice in a long flowy skirt instead of a funky pair of shorts.

I have been thinking of wearing skirts more often. I love them, but I need to find ones that are not frumpy-looking...most long, gathered skirts make me look funny. Which stinks because I love having them on...especially with at least a petticoat, if not 2! ; }
One on the things I loved about doing medieval re-enactments was wearing that type of clothing (and everyone around you wearing it too, so you don't feel like the odd-ball)
I have a full circle skirt that I need to add a waistband to and hem. I'm looking forward to this for the summer. I made the skirt out of an old white sheet, which I then tie-dyed in blues and purples. I'll try to take a picture of it when I do get it finished.
Anyone have any tips on skirts that look flattering on rounder figures?

For years I wore only dresses, but now I wear jeans most of the time. All this talk is encouraging me to make some skirts to wear when it gets a little warmer. I sure would like to find some overalls to wear for the outdoor work around here.
Any great finds on overall for a 1X women?

I wear jumpers and skirts all the time. In the winter I wear tights under my clothes to stay warm.I think women look so much better dressed like women.I find people treat me different. With more respect and not like I am one of the guys. Another reason is I am too tiny for pants or shorts. They are so uncomforable. I love the Tasha Tudor look.

I'm so glad I found you all! I thought I was the only one. I love looking feminine and romantic, but I can't seem to find skirts that I like. I have some patterns and pretty fabric to make them, but I'm scared to make that first cut. I have only made curtains and quilts, never clothes. As soon as I figure it out though I'm going to make my whole wardrobe, all in floral fabrics. All though it is hard to move hay in a skirt. I have to use my legs to move it and since I do it almost everyday it will be a bit trying.

Elizabeth Ann, earlier in this thread of conversation, said it well. I have always wished I could dress as if I am from another time, too, and not be thought crazy. I think I would be better at that than trying to be stylish now! Love long skirts, aprons, simple blouses, and comfort. I always thought Tasha Tudor so stylish, even though she dressed as if from long ago. She had her own style!

I almost hate to to admit it - I dont dress up or wear skirts that much anymore unless its for a funeral and church. I think I did the skirt and pantyhose with the 2 inch heel from the corp world for to many years I shy away from any kind of skirt or slacks. Now I wear scrubs to the doctors office for the front desk so I always feel like we are wearing jammies. When I am home I am in my jeans and old sweatshirts. but my motto is if its comfortable wear it

I love long prairie skirts or things with a bit of a bohemian flare, but day in day out I live in my levi jeans and cowboy boots!

Tasha Tudor was one of my first role models for the simpler life. I find her ways so inspiring. She is an illustrator, primarily of children's books, and lives in Vermont in a manner that captures the spirit of the 1830's. She is 91 years of age now, I believe, and a fascinating person. In all the pictures I have seen of her, she is wearing a long full-skirted dress and apron with bare feet and a kerchief covering her hair. That's what I aim for!

Tasha, I think that's SO cool you were named after Tasha Tudor!
Tasha Tudor is a children's book writer/illustrator, who lives a very eccentric life- she lives and dresses in a manner more fitting to 100 years ago than today. She's also had books written ABOUT her, and she's particularly fond of corgis. :) http://www.tashatudorandfamily.com/ |

I've been thinking about the skirt/dress/jumper thing and I'm truly considering abandoning the pants. I'm a tall, size 18W and don't have much of a wasteline and a rather drastic surgery a few years ago left me with, how do I put this, and "apron" of skin on my belly. Not even pantyhose (which I hate) will deal with it and I hate tight things anyway. I just purchased from Lane Bryant a sweater and knit slacks. The sweater covered the tummy but still, not perfect.
Heck, my mom did housework in a dress or skirt and flats or tennies. I don't necessarily see pants as a comfort thing or a modesty thing. I think when you get hot they are a drag and I'd wear a dress in the summer anytime. Even in the winter With knee socks or tights that aren't tight) and it gets COLD here!
I'm not thinking of doing this for religious reasons, but I do live down the street from an apostolic church and the young girls play ball and the like just like the guys do, all with dresses and long hair! No doubt my grandmother, a devout Lutheran, helped my grandfather clear land and did all the chores a farm wife does in a dress! I never saw a picture of her in pants.
I starting to ramble, but here's to dusting off my sewing machine and making myself some girl duds!

Yay Jana! Just cheering you on! I made a long skirt out of my jeans that the crotch had blown out in...lol, and I LOVE it, it's so much more comfy than the jeans ever were!

| I've worn skirts for the last ten years. It isn't "religious" but I do believe I should dress like a woman. I am treated differently all the time. People have a tendency to take care in the language they use around me and my daughters especially men. I was created a woman and I like be treated like a lady. I haven't had to open a door for quite some time. :) |

| Having FM and RA clothing really hurts my skin. I like things loose but not baggy. Comfortable clothing is what I am all about. Elizabeth, where did your friend get the VHS tapes on Tasha Tudor? I have been a fam of hers for so long. I wonder, how old do you suppose she is? I mean, it seems like she's looked the same forever! Thanks. Susan |

I wear skirts all the time. Found a very comfy denim skirt/cargo style through Roamans catalog/website for only about $20 so I bought up a bunch of them and that's mostly what I wear every day..those and a stylish top.
If I'm dressing up to go out..I'll wear a floral or black skirt and pumps..but most of the time I prefer the casual denim skirt/sandals and a nice top.
