I just wanted to share with all of you pictures of this wonderful "farmgirl" I did a story on when I worked for the newspaper. She is 89 years old in these pictures, continued to raise her feeder pigs as she had done all of her life and put out a garden every year. Note her colorful clothing. She is just so remarkable that words cannot begin to do her justice.

love looking at the pictures. My DH had three aunts that never married, and one of them always wore a bonnet when outside picking potatoes. Look at all the layers of clothing. Those pictures are real keepers. NANCY JO

Ya gotta love her! And I love she is wearing sneakers which most older folks won't wear.
Kathy is there any way you can print the story you wrote and share it with us? I know we would all love to read it.
Blessed are those who love the soil,
Patsy

I will see if the newspaper archived it, it was a pretty "behind the times" publication but I will look for it. I am so glad you enjoyed the pictures. Kathy

Oh sweet. I loved the woman and her pictures You do good work. That dear lady reminds me of my deceased Grandmother Cline; My dad's Mom. She wore clothes just like hers and bonnets. She was the best gardener. Thanks for sharing those with us and the memories of my own grandmothers. pinkroses |

Well now, that's a farmgirl! I love the story her face tells in the first picture. Just beautiful. We had a neighbor that lived behind us who wore her hair in braids wrapped around her head, and her clothes were very similar to this lady's. She always had on an apron- true farmgirl style!

I would love to sit and chat with this lady, I'll bet she has lots of stories and wisdom to share. Mostly I'd like to ask her how she keeps such a crisp white apron when she gardens in it!!

I have emailed the editor and it seems the newspaper has started only keeping archives two years back. I am still searching to see if I can find a link somewhere out in the internet world. If that doesn't work, I will go to the library and fetch the hard copy. I am glad all of you have enjoyed her picture. I have so many of these, we are so rich in this community of these kind of people who have such wonderful stories. Kathy

What a wonderful picture. It's sad to think that here is all these people who are so wise and very knowledgeable and yet, it seems that the younger generation isn't interesting in listeneing to them. Not talking about you farm girls but like their grandkids or great grands. You know? I sure wish I had recorded everything my grandparents tried to tell me. There are times when I need their advice or help on doing things. Laura www.2lmzfarms.blogspot.com |

That is the face of a woman with many stories to tell! I hope you can find the article, but I bet she was very modest and didn't think her life was so extrordinary, that she just did what she had to do. And that is why she will be so interesting, because she perservered , overcame and endured. And hopefully found joy as well. What a wonderful picture!

Thanks for sharing. I think old people have a special look, almost like that of a small child only with more character.
