Willocreek, Thanx for the welcome. I look forward to staying in touch with all the countrygals at heart. If all goes well, I will be calling Washington my home....just have to finish up the details, like retirement, moving, settling in and being greatful forall my blessings.
I posted in the Apron section about a book that I received for Christmas, called "The Apron Book" by EllyAnne Geisel. It is delightful reading and even has a full size bib apron patteren enclosed.

Welcome, Grace.ffYou're another chick just out of the shell! I hatched about 5 days ago, I'm dried off and my feathers are fluffy now, but I am still in wonderment about how all of this works! Enjoy! Your sis Lucy signing off.

Ladies, thanx so much for the warm welcome....I first learned about MJF from a magazine my daughter sent me...she knows her mom is a country gal @ heart. I am a former military brat...have lived in Ft. Knox, KY., New Britin Conn., Ft. Riley KS., Kalean TX and Germany. I guess that's why after 30 years I still don't feel at home in Calif. I luv herb gardening, especially lavender & scented gerainiums. Yes, I steep lavender ,strain it & use it as a facial refresher and I also use it as a counter cleaner in my bathroom. I am facinated with vintage mixers. my collection starts with 1 from 1928 and on up, I have one from each decade up to 1970. I also collect vintage irons...I have such an appreciation for our grammies! I also have my grammies tredle sewing machine & yes I actually sewed an outfit for my daughter(when she was little) on it...again, our grammies must have been awesome ladies with hughes calves!!!LOL!
Well, gotta get ready for work. Blessings to you all.

Grace, Welcome to the best site ever. I have a sister-in-law that lives in Moorepark and I lived there for one year (too many). I also use to live in Spokane, WA and you will love it there. I am not an army brat but have lived everywhere: San Francisco, CA; Martinez, CA; Mt. Home, Id; San Bernardino, CA; Walnut Creek, CA; Tacoma, WA; Spokane, WA; Phoeniz, AZ; Bangor, ME; St. Augustine, FL; Rochester, NH; NC; That just about covers it. I have always had the "itichy feet" like my Grandpa, as my Nanny use to say. I have only been on this site for about a month now and I have learned so much. Still looking for anyone who like to make doll houses like me. B

Choctaw mama....don't know how long it's been since you have been down here in Moorpark, but we just broke the 30K population. In High School we joked and called Moorpark, "that lil'town that @ 8pm turns off the lites & rolls up the streets". We now have a Target store and Starbucks.LOL!
And Lucy, thanx for calling me a "chick" works for me....I work in an enviroment where I pretty much am the "mother hen". At least my furbabies(kittys) don't care about my age or my grey roots. Now if only Lavender could cure that too! I keep day dreaming about the Spokane area... I already have a name picked out. "Lavender Grace Farm". I know Sequim is a great area for Lavender & herbs,,,who knows, maybe lavender can survive in Spokane...

Grace,

Welcome. You will love it in the Spokane area! There is a lavender festival over there and one over here in Athol, ID (not far at all) too. Would love to learn some of your lavender skills.

Hi, Grace! (That's my little grandniece's name!)

How NEAT to see you are excited about moving to the Spokane-area! I grew up on the north side of town and have lived in the Spokane Valley since 1991 (LOVE it!). Do you have any idea where abouts in this area you're hoping to move to? You've been here before? What will be bringing you to this area? I have LOTS of questions! I'm excited!

What age is your daughter? I have an eleven year old two-legged girl and two four-legged ones (dogs). AND there are "the boys" -- Buttons and Squeakers, the guinea pigs!

There is a lavendar farm in Otis Orchards, just down the road from where my friend/boss lives. My mother has a huge lavendar plant that my daughter has always loved swiping with her hand to bring out the fragrance!

I'd love to hear more about your plans!

Ki Karin,
what brings us to Spokane,,,simply said, I have never felt like I belonged in Calif. My hubby & I share the same dream of having a few acres and a woodshop/garden shed and room to walk around with out a neighbor wathing us from the cracks in the fence. Soooo, when our daughter & her husband told us they have been wanting to leave this area and had been up to Spokane several times,,,it was a no brainer for. I have actually mentioned Otis Orchards to my hubby 'cause I saw that lavender seems to grow there. We checked into Sequim, but that's just to far north and no hospital near by....I am 52 & healty but when you are klutzy like me, having a hospital near by is a must. Plus my hubby loves to golf & fish & Spokane or one of the small communities around it looks like a perfect fit. I am actually asking for input from all you Spokane area ladies and yes, I have already checked & located 2 Michaels Crafts stores now all I need is a Trader Joes & I am in hog heaven!
My 4 legged daughters are one stray cali mix who adopted us 12 years ago and 2 are Hymi's from the rescue and 1 was a kitten that we got from a friend...the are 16yrs, 10yrs, 9yrs & 5 yrs...can we say "Super Size" that litter box!
I promise when we get up to the Spokane region, I will arraing a lunch/play date so that I can meet up with all of you. After all, Friends are the beautiful flowers in a bouquet.

Yes in deedey, Moorpark is a laugh a minute. Spokane gets a couple of weeks of snow, not sure if lavender can handle this. Choctawmama

I happened upon a place in Wash., called Otis Orchards,,,where there is a lavender farm,,,so it is on the top of my list as one of the areas to check into...We just recently went throuh a 7 day freeze and it pretty much destroyed the Avacados, lemons & strawberry crops in our community but surprizingly it did no harm to my lavender plants.
I signed up for the knit/crochet dish cloth exchange,,,,looks like there are some fun crafty exchange projects coming up.... I am taking my crochet hook & yarn with me to work for the next few days to crochet my dish cloths for the exchange....

Spokane is hot and dry in the summer and can be cold and snowy in the winter. We've had a couple of rounds of zero and below since October -- temperatures THAT cold aren't so common but also aren't unusual (like this winter in the Seattle-area, with lots of snow and cold -- VERY unusual).

Lavendar seems to do well around here. Maybe there are certain types that do better here than others -- ??? I think there is more than one lavendar farm in the area and many of us have lavendar plants that come back year after year.

Karin, a Spokane-area native (actually, my grandparents were married here in 1910 so I'm a third generation Spokanite).

Thanx Grace.... : > )
I know you have endured the same little wittisisms I have from our name,,,way to go grace, grace underfire, saved by grace, etc... but none the less I can't imagine myself as anything other than "grace". It's a great old name. We wear it well.
I am so delighted to be a part of this group. Ever since I got my hands on my first MaryJane Farms magazine, I felt like I am not the only "closet country gal", that there are others out there who feel the same about family, farming (if only in our dreams)and a more organic lifestyle. How awesome!.
