I am just going to jump right in here. This is my first post. I am looking for other Farm Girls who make doll houses and minitures furniture. (Please forgive my spelling-head injury!) You can look at my picture site to see my latest: htt;//s166.photobucket.com/album/u115choctawmama/ I made it for my daughter aka chickenlips, ages ago and have finally painted it and am now furnishing it. We have turned it into a fairey house. Haven't named it yet, any suggestions? But I need ideas for making (the farm girl way) furniture from other ods and ends. I have checked out many books on this subject from the library. I love my doll house (or Belinda's). I want to turn it into a 'real fairey farm girl home'.

Hi Choctaw Mama, here are a few ideas..toothpaste caps can become both lamp shades and garbage canisters or even pots for plants in your doll house. You can use postage stamps as "framed art" You can collect tiny pieces of branches and attach small cutout leaves for a potted tree. You can sculpt tiny food items out of polymer clay. In fact you can even sculpt little animals or people out of the clay. Tiny braided rugs can be made from a chain stitch bit of crochet that you then wind and stitch as a braided rug.

Barbara, for a real family portrait, scan or down load a picture of a family member (daughter) then when you go to print it just keep reducing it till it is the size you need for a "portrait". You can also use "Shrinky Dink" shrink plastic to make the frame...just use art deco scissors to cut out the outside of the frame & an exacto knife to clean cut the inside. Lightly sand it w/an emery board, then use a gold color stamp pad to add color. Put it in the toaster over on a baking sheet & heat according to directions... now assemble your custom portrait of your daughter to put in the doll house.

Nice dollhouse! I always wanted to build and furnish one. Maybe some day I will do that.

Cute dollhouse! I make my tiny food from polymer clay. Also, the cedar veneers that come in cigar boxes are great for all types of applications. You can ask for them at a cigar store or look for cigar boxes in yard sales. (That's what I do!) Glass paints can be used to make "gelatin desserts" and shaved styrofoam can be used for coconut. The toothpicks that come from Cracker Barrel are so pretty on the tops- you can use them for knitting needles, mixing spoons (with the point buried in batter!), fencing, etc. You might have to cut them down a bit, but they are so cute. Scrapbook paper makes great wallpaper, and it's cheap, cheap, cheap! There are so many uses for everyday things when you start to think tiny! Have fun creating your new house!!
