I made a trellis for my peas. I took large garden stakes and strung wire on them. The peas are growing up nicely.

Looks great! I finally decided to put some real effort in to preparing and planting this year. It has been worth the work though it is just a small raised bed.

Haven't planted anything yet. The weather has been cold and rainy. Usually I have almost everything planted by now. I did do some mulching in the flower beds. I did 26 bags and have 14 more to go and that might not be enough. I have all perennials and they are coming up nicely and at different times. I usually plant marigolds throughout the garden to deter some critters. Can't wait to get the garden going!

Great idea Nora and it looks like you are off to a great start. What else are you growing in your garden?

I've made my bean teepee but it's been too wet to plant the seeds. Fingers crossed that next week will be better.

I had a trench full of marigolds all around the vegetable garden last year. In the fall, I pulled off the heads and kept a BUNCH of seeds, which I planted this spring. They are coming up nicely now. I am finding lots of volunteer nasturtiums in odd places this year. I have never had so many winter over. We cut way back on vegetables this year and are adding flowers. Still have Swiss chard, zukes, cukes, pumpkins, tomatoes and peppers, as well as the salad garden - but no beans, cantaloupes, acorn or spaghetti squash. We added some rose bushes, gladiolus, more hollyhocks, and a little annual bed. Moved a peony from a shady spot to a sunny one. His Dudeness has been installing soaker hoses which are hooked to our rain barrels. So far we have had PLENTY of rain! Must be because we set up the rain barrels. ha ha There are little volunteer tomatoes everywhere, too. So many that I have been pulling a lot of them up. I left a couple where the cherry tomatoes were last year, because we didn't put in any cherries this year. Gardening is always full of surprises!

Nice bean teepee. The beans will love it. I'm currently behind with my garden. Hoping to get around to it this week. It's just been some awful weather here as well.

Oh you are you going to love watching those beans climb your teepee! I am excited to see how they are doing in a month. Your garden is huge. Do you can also?

Gardening always makes me feel so connected to the earth and heck when you pluck the rewards, it is even better. So far my strawberry plants are blessing me. I picked 162 red ripe beauties yesterday. I look forward to reading how your garden grows. Thank you for sharing.

Nora, I do more freezing than canning too. The older I get that seems easier and the vegetables taste fresher to me. I even started to freeze my tomatoes while and cook them up and freeze them too. I really only have been canning salsa. I've been fermenting and doing refrigerator pickles so I don't can them anymore either.
Planted zucchini, tomatoes, kale, lettuces, cukes, cabbage and peppers yesterday. Have onions to go in and need to go get some other things. Usually everything is all in by now! Have several mints, orange, chocolate, Apple, strawberry, ginger and pineapple. They smell heavenly! This old body is feeling the effects today! Yikes! LOL!
Love looking at and hearing about your gardens!

My garden is smaller this year. Just a few tomatoes, cukes, green beans, peas, radishes and carrots. And herbs of course. I love to smell them and use them in cooking. My husband build these beds for me last year. I put strawberries in the taller beds.

Christy, nice raised beds. I have the low raised beds too. I like your tall ones, easy on the body! Think of you often and wonder how you're doing?
Need to get my herbs and marigolds in and a few other things to fill some spots. It is cold and raining all day. Not conducive to planting!

He intended the tall ones to be used for herbs right outside the backdoor. That's where he placed them last year. They were in the way of the patio and not much sun. So...being a strong, determined woman I moved them. He's shaking his head at me from Heaven :)
I think they'll be quite nice with strawberries in them.
I'm doing well. Told my mom that Friday, driving home from work seemed like a window had opened and I could breathe again. He was so sick for so long it's kind of a relief. I'm told by others in my situation that its ok to feel relief.

Christy, you have to heal in your own way. Being a caregiver is difficult on so many levels that some don't understand. It is absolutely ok to feel relief. Your husband would be glad you can breathe again. Some choices are made for us and others we make for ourselves. You wouldn't have chosen your husbands path but you have a new path now and whatever's right for you is what matters. God bless you.

Christy, I had a neighbor who in her late 70s cared for her husband after he had a stroke and both legs amputated below his hips because of diabetes. She kept him home for two years and devoted her life to him. After he passed she was very jealous of her time. She would say "it's my time now and I will do what I want".

Christy, Darlene said it so well. Words to be remembered.

Sara, I just saw your " Lord put your arm around my shoulders and your hand over my mouth." LOL! Don't we all need that on a daily basis? It's cool and raining here again. I don't ever remember a season like this.

Darlene, I got that saying from the neighbor I wrote about.

It hung on her kitchen wall. Our weather has been messed up too. Even if no rain we have had a lot of hot but overcast days.

Got my garden all planted this weekend. I choose to keep it simple this year but switched up some things. I'm trying a different kind of basil, tomato, and cucumber. This will help me decide what I like better for future years! Christy your raised beds look nice. Mine are as tall as your strawberry one. And trust me it's super nice on my back!
