I got a flyer from American express about organizing my life.
One article caught my attention, it listed several online sites dinner planning (all are subscription, for a fee). They give you a weekly menu, recipes, and a shopping list.

I suppose it would be worth the money if it would cut down on waste... Now if we could just stay home often enough to make something like this work.
They also mentioned Kitchen clubs - Dream dinners, Let's Dish, and Super Suppers - where the service does all the shopping and the customers get together, listen to music, drink a glass of wine, and assemble one to 12 nights worth of entrees into freezer containers. This sounds like it's right up my alley but I don't think they've come to our little berg yet.
Maybe I could organize something with my sisters and daughters. Go shopping at the warehouse store and then divvy up the big containers. I'll have to rent the church kitchen to have enough room for all of us to use, though!
Any of you farmgirls doing anything along these lines?

I started out with the menu mailer from the Fly lady- which didn't actually come from the fly lady but the author of the Saving Dinner book. It was just a test to sample some of the menus from the book really. As it turned out I hated the menu mailer because (as in the book) every what? like friday or saturday is crockpot night and I don't cook in a crockpot. So I was left with no alternative unless I had saved past menus and yadda yadda it was a mess. I did buy the book Saving Dinner, and I LOVE it. I followed it for about half a year continually substituting the crockpot recipes, and she has a few in there that are "all bean" something or other, but most of the recipes are SOOOOOOOOOO delicious they make me * want * to cook. And it really DID help me spend better at the grocery store knowing what all my meals would be for that week. Also, I was given the incentive to create my own recipe book with a calender in the back where I keep track of what we eat and how often. It's fun to look back and see what we did the previous year for dinner. I think it may take me awhile to fill it all in as I still don't cook every night (if I get buried with work and orders I just don't have time). But at some point I will have a recipe book unique to my family that will carry us through an entire year and all our special celebrated days. :)

My fear would be
1. My husband can be picky and wont eat some new things out of fear.
2. I can't eat spicy foods because of a medical condition so I would be in trouble if any dishes were spicy.
3. Even though they claim that they use common ingredinets I live so far out in the sticks that our wal-mart doesn't carry stuff you might think is common! (No portabello mushrooms, no geuyere cheese, no shallots, and I think they only carry REAL maple syrup cause I bugged them for so long about it!)
Jewelry, art, baskets, etc.
