I received your squares today, Sherry! Love your prints - and your tucks. This is going to be a super quilt, and I hope everyone puts theirs together quickly so we can see the different placements of the blocks. It will be super easy to put together.

Thank you Sherry for your pretty blocks and tucks. I have already stitched them together. Tomorrow morning very early I will press four different sets of blocks. I have been chain stitching squares and triangles all afternoon and evening. Lots of work, but it will be exciting g to see them all go together one day, hopefully soon.

No postage was due.
Funny thing is everyone has mailed for $1.36 or three Forever postage stamps, except Sherry and I. We each were charged $2.64. I thought that was interesting.

Darlene - Just checking - when did your squares get sent out? You posted on the 3rd they were going out Thursday (the 5th), but I haven't gotten them yet. With the weather they may just be taking a bit longer. Can't wait to sew these together.

Marilyn,
That is weird about the postage!
I received sherry's squares, Marilyn's squares and Lisa's squares this week. I need to stop at the mail box this morning and see if there is anything there...
I am so excited to lay out all the squares and see what we all come up with!

Mailyn,
My stash is pretty good. Some of the squares are from fabrics I used for a couple of quilts in the late 1990's early 2000s, si some of them are kind of vintage, but it fun to "find" them again!

Sometimes it is the packaging that makes the postage go up. If the thickness is over 1/4 inch or the thickness is uneven across the envelope (lumpy), the envelope has to go as a small package, and that is what makes the postage more. I was surprised that the squares that came in a padded envelope was the cheaper price, but it was even in thickness, so maybe it squeezed through the measuring slot the PO has.

Linda,
I think that is true, if it goes through the slot easily then its a different price, silly postal rules!

Our post office is a stickler for rules. They call a card with even the slightest bump, a package. So, now I try to remember to slip a piece of card stock over the bumpies, (like some other girls do)...and I use the drop box outside. We need a bigger post office. It is. It unusual to have ten people in line...with only one or two workers.

Today I received Darlene's cute squares. Thanks Darlene, I must get busy stitching again.
I get fabrics from quilt shops,Hobby Lobby, Joann's, Wal-Mart, Etsy, EBay, Missouri Star Quilt Shops, friends, etc. I have even purchased piles of fabric at yard sales for $3 or less. Although it was not quilting fabric, it might come in handy someday. Hey it was a find, a bargain!

I've gotten fabrics like that at estate and yard sales and thrift shops, too, Marilyn. I've used some for an apron or two. Most is not quilt quality.

I know, they are stiffened. But for bulletin boards at school, wind blocks in chicken pens, etc. They are ok.

Lisa, I think I bought it at a local quilt shop. I have some of it left so I will see if I can find the company it is from, its fun fabric. Still no plan for it but it needs to mature a bit...
I went to an estate sale in 1998 ish and in one of the beds was covered in feed sack fabrics. I bought all of them, because it was 1/2 off. I still have some of it, I've been hoarding them. I have bought fabric at joanns, local shops, ebay, missouri star quilt company. If I find fabric at estate sales or other sales I'll buy it if I think I can use it for something.

Thank you, everyone, for cutting 20 squares each. That gives enough for a good size quilt. I've got all my squares sewn into 14 rows of 12 - that is 72 x 84 before borders. I had to cut 9 squares to do this. I think I will add a 6" border all around to make it 84 x 96.

It is fun going through all these squares. You can tell who has more teens, who likes flowers. Some like muted tones and others are brighter. And are there some former flower children in this group? LOL!

Thank you again for your continued participation in these fabric swaps. We've had some great quilts, with more themes yet to come.
After Music will be Dogs and Cats (1 10" square each), Travel, and ??? I hope you will join in when signups are posted.
