We bought this house 3 years ago. 1/2 acre in the village, on the edge of town. I love it, I really do. Never wanted to move again after dealing with banks and realtors. I'm just not a business type of woman. My husband and I always said we wanted a home out in the country, but any home outside of the village was way above our price range. So we were really happy with what we found here...we've been nothing but happy...
This morning my DH hands me the Real Estate section of the paper and says here's our next house. A Beautiful old farm house 4br, 2 bath, plus a 2 br apartment to rent out, on 21/2 acres. I know almost where it is and there aren't but 3 houses on the road, and it is still 10 minutes from school. The price is right so it must need work, and my husband was excited about that! (This farmer stuff must be steeping in by osmosis!)
I really don't think we will do anything here...but he is going to drive by it today...
I was thinking I would start with chickens! HeHe

Hey, that sounds great. Be sure to keep us posted on all of this. The only drawback is having to move, I hate moving.

Bonnie, It doesn't sound crazy to me! It sounds like a wonderful adventure! Report back after the drive-by.

I seriously almost fell out of my chair when DH handed me that paper this morning!
The more I think of it, the more I hear All you farmgirls telling me to follow my dreams! Yikes.
I am thinking he will come home and say it just looks like a dump and it is too much for us to get into, and that's ok.
But man, what a funny way to start a Saturday!

Nancy, you better believe I'd head out your way to thrift shop with you!

Moving is such a chore and it sounds like you have what you want where you are....but then again.......what a tough choice. Just don't get your hopes up and then be disappointed. However it goes be thankful....be happy.......grab Nancy and hit the thrift stores. MB

Thanks girls! I am absolutely happy where I am, and not hoping or anything like that (well maybe a little, but not enough to be crushed).

Moving is a chore, but it is also an opportunity to declutter, reorganize and rearrange! You are wise to keep your heart in check, but oh, the possibilities!

Wow!! Sounds like fun! I do love to move, new walls to look at, new spaces to fill, new ground to dig in.......but, If your heart is in the house you are in then.......it sure would be a hard choice to make.....pray about it.....

Bonnie,

Sounds like quite an adventure! A little over a year ago, my husband and I found an old farmhouse (which needed work :>)on 4.7 acres with a MIL apt in what used to be the milking parlour. We sold our dream home that we built ourselved in order to make it happen.
I sometimes miss my old house and being closer to the city, but this place has cultivated something in me that was burried and didn't know existed. Sometimes our destiny follows us!
I am sure it will all work out how it is supposed to. Whether or not you buy the place, it will be fun to think about it. Blessings to you in whatever happens. Tabitha

DH did a drive by yesterday, wasn't thrilled with the look of the land, and said the windows were practically rotting out of the frames.
We'll stay on our little patch of heaven here! Thanks girls!

Bonnie, I'm going crazy here for some news...what did the place look like? Any interest? Trash or treasure?

How funny, we were typing at the exact same time...even to the second! Glad to get the update from you. I guess you're rather relieved that you guys didn't love it. THAT would have been a hard decision for you.

Definately trash, but it could be someone's treasure. I think if the land looked more useable, DH would have considered it; but then again the windows were horrible and that's a bad start. You kind of figured that the internal things needed updated, but when you look on the outside and can see it falling apart, that's just TOO overwhelming for us!
Like I said before, we have been here in this house for 3 years. It's our first home, and we said we would be happy here forever. And I truly am. But I guess you always keep your eyes open for deals!

I'm so glad that you and your DH were able to explore the option at least...it never hurts to check things out. Mostly, however, I am so glad that you sound happy in your current home. Isn't that an incredible feeling?

It is incredible, Libbie! Buying our current home was like a dream. It wasn't always an easy process, but it was so worth it. To walk into a place and KNOW it is home! Sounds funny that we would even look at another place, huh? But I think HOME is where ever you and your family decide to settle, it's not the building!

Whew, my heart was racing for a minute, there, Bonnie! It's always good to know the right thing to do.... those questions that keep hovering are hard. How wonderful that you're content, and your husband is becoming a farmboy!

Bonnie, it never hurts to keep your eyes open for new opportunities. But don't you just appreciate your home even more now? I have found in my life that God brings the right thing at the right time, but we need to keep our options open to find what he brings.

But if I know men....he seems to have the "land" bug....so don't be surprised if he comes in with another idea about somewhere else to look...best wishes!

I sure wish my husband was checking the papers for land, not cars...or drums...or guitars...or...Maybe someday, he's young yet ;)

I'm glad you're both happy with how this turned out. But it sounds like there may be a move in your future!

I think these girls are right, your husband may have been bitten by the farm bug. Something in his head is making him want to look at other land. But at least you both are content where you are for the meantime. My husband has never really loved our house. Too close to neighbors, and only a couple of them are decent. He would love a log cabin home with more land and privacy. I would love either an old farmhouse or newly built log cabin, not huge, but with at least 5 acres and no zoning exceptions so I can be like Mary Jane!! Maybe do a little B&B, have a farm school, enough land to support a CSA. One of these days sigh....

I'd rather live my life with a "full plate" than an empty one. Life is not a rehearsal... eat up!
