How good those veggies do look! Am down right jealous. We do have nice lettuce. My beets are tiny babies and the carrots too. We also love borscht. Our garden is beautiful this year as hubby is home now and he works in it every day.

Vanessa -those veggies look great! I'd love to hear about your trip to Diamond State park - Hubby wants to go really bad. We're heading out shortly to the ruby mines in North Carolina.

My gentle persuasion has gotten through to my sweetie. Now he has his own straw when we eat out.

Vanessa,, I am green with envy... you are harvesting veggies... my beets are only 3-4" tall.. we had a very long Winter/very cold & wet late Spring... we are just now finally getting nice weather...
The only thing that is on par in my garden are my red onions.. and one very crooked sunflower... lol!

The beets are done (and they didn't get very big) so I transplanted the beans right before rain. A fog crept in about 8 pm last night.

On a funny note my old granny dog,Tina, loves to go with me to the garden and sneaks peas out of the basket. She eats them pod and all!

I am pursuing my happiness today by rolling and tying newspapers for the bike parade tomorrow. I am representing The Bracken County News and throwing newspapers. My boss thinks I'm a little nuts but is going along with the idea.

The parade was fun. I rode with a bunch of children and about 3 golf cars followed us. At first I asked folks sitting on their porches if they had a newspaper subscription, but soon I just tossed a newspaper toward them. Luckily I didn't crash or hit anyone. I still have plenty to send out with swaps.

Although my birthday was July 6th, we celebrated my birthday at work on Tuesday (when we assemble the newspaper). My boss orders lunch and we have cake. There are 4 of us in the office, so its chummy. I want to post the picture, but the Downloader is slow.

Today's excitement was the appearance of a chicken. Both Oskar and Tona chased it, so Jeff and I caught and re-homed it ( our neighbors weren't home, but they have chickens already and the chicken seemed to like it there).

(Sung to "I was strolling in the park one day")
I was walking with my doggie in July
When some pretty roadside sweet peas caught my eye,
Their pods were ripe and full
So a handful I did pull,
I will send them off to Farmgirls when they're dry.
It gets so hot during the day that I get up a little earlier to feed the birds and walk.

It was a lucky day for this little kitten. I was walking along the road and heard his meows from the woods. He followed me home and I tentatively named him Trip Hazard because he wove back and forth in front of me. He's very vocal and got along with all the dogs (our cat Shrek was less than pleased). He's also very sweet tempered - I gave him 2 baths and he didn't bite or scratch! A friend of ours has an opening for a barn cat, so Trip will be going to his new home tomorrow.

After reading about the Quiet Park article in the latest issue of MJF, I consider the country road I walk to be the closest equivalent. This morning I walked into the fog, with birds and insects sounding. By the time I turned back toward home the sun was high enough to burn off the fog and show a clear blue sky. Few cars pass by, and sometimes I'm lucky to spot deer or rabbit.
