I think some of the postal stations are a bit rougher on their outgoing mail than others. A thicker envelope would work, but also be heavier and require additional postage. Hit and miss.

Linda, actually some of the heavier envelopes are ok. A couple of our swappers have used #10 textured envelopes and only one stamp with success.

Last year I made envelopes, and went to the PO with one of them to see how much postage would be needed as well as ask ??? & come away with some better understanding of their ways. I learned to keep square envelopes under 6".
I also learned not to put your return address on the back of the card...you may just get it back, and waste a stamp.
Never put tape over a stamp, as that makes it worthless.

My point is this, if you do not have a scale, take one envelope and ask if it is ok with regular postage. Once you know you have one that will be ok, use the same method for each swap.

As long as we are using calico prints we are ok. Decorater fabrics are heavier.

Thanks Angie Gordon for the cute kitchen fabrics that arrived today. No rips in the envelope either.

The first time I sent fabric, I took them to the post office myself & requested hand cancelling. That was a mistake!

After getting several envelopes, I discovered that if you press the fabric really really tightly, then put the fabric in a card, it still only weighs 1 ounce & will go for the same postage.

You can get those 10 pack of cards for like $1 at Michaels.

Greetings Ladies,

So sorry for being "10-7" lately. Much to do around here and unfortunately my most favorite pastime has been neglected.

Squares rec'd from: Linda O. / Marilyn G. / Cristy M. / Kathleen D. / Mary D. / Sherry B. / Bev M. / Katherine B. / Becky D. / & Angie G.

They are all so lovely and I cannot wait to put some together and breath fresh life into the kitchen. THE HEART of the home. I believe the best conversations usually happen there as well as many, many hugs!!

Lastly, a note to let y'all know that my squares all left out today!! YIPPEEE!

. . . and final closing comment, I've used #10 envelopes folded in the manner described (about an inch and a half sticking out side to side and folded in thirds top-to-bottom and then the side flaps folded in to fit into the envelope) firmly ironed flat and a piece of paper wrapped on the outside. I was able to mail using only one stamp each. I do have the post-lady weigh a couple just to be sure before I hand them all over and I usually weigh in at .8 or .9 of an ounce. ***I think I might try the card method next time. If any one receives my envelope damaged or with postage due, please let me know as this method seems to be working.

(((HUGS)))

TexanGran - the cards I use are like Thank You Cards. (Didn't you get my fabric?) I think just about any blank cards would work though.

Kathy, yes I do get your fabrics, and now that you say the kind of cards, I remember. Sorry, I have been in major clean and gut the house mode all summer long. I can finally see light. Not finished but now it seems possible that I may finish. I want to sew...I want to sew.

TexasGran-I know what you mean about the gut & clean goings on. I need to do that here, but I have a clutter-kid & a hoarder-husband! Add to that, me-the fabric queen! I have so many quilts in mind with the fabric to go with all those dreams. Life goes on...

Since I have always taught school, summer was cleaning time. Last summer I was sick, and my husband and I both had doctor appointments, and surgical things out of town...So the house cleaning was never done. So it has been a huge job this summer. I found the "play school" things, fromthe last summer the girls played school...They made school work for me to do and even made notes for my make believe mom to sign. That was six or seven years ago. I stacked it neatly in the bottom of the buffet. Fun memories.

I received fabric squares from Darlene R. and Angie today. Both envelopes arrived in perfect condition!

Darlene, the brown and red print reminded me of Grandma. The green print reminded me that DH wants a pie! Lol. The bookmark made my heart swell with pride! Thank you!

Angie, your vintage prints remind me of mom and I just love them. It seem lately that every time I see a picture of a stand mixer I decide I would like one. Then I think..I have gone this long using a hand mixer of mixing by hand I can go without the expense. Hmmmm. Such a dilemma. Thank you, too!

Judith, here is a mixer story for you. Many years ago my husband gave me a new mixer for Christmas. It was so nice and I used it so much, he bought one for our DIL for the next Christmas. She did not open it, stuck it in a cabinet in the utility room for two years. Her family came for the holidays and her oldest sister was going to make cookies. She asked why baby sister did not own a stand mixer. The box came down and they could not believe she had never opened it. Middle sister wanted it. Thankfully, seeing her older sister demonstrate how nice it was, convinced our DIL to keep it. She uses it frequently and we even purchased her an extra bowl for it. So if you ever get a Kitchenaid stand mixer enjoy it. They are so very nice.

Received Darlene's squares & lovely book mark today.

Hotter than blazes here in TN today & the humidity would kill an elephant!! We've had to give the chickens lots of ice today. They love ice cubes in a pan that we sprinkle bird seeds over. I swear I've heard them giggle!

Hugs and Squishies!!

That is a fun idea for your hens. Mine get so excited when I have bread. Our border collie has been known to slip in the pen to have some bread too.

Ok girls, I am mailing my fabric today. I was going to mail them on Wednesday, but when I did my final check of the mailing list I realized I had addressed at least 6 of them from a previous list.... Needless to say I made up new envelopes and filled them with fabric, I went through them at least 5 times now to make sure I have all of the right names on the right envelopes.....I have 4 envelopes of fabric left so if anyone does not receive an envelope from me please let me know as I have extras. Its been a rough week for sure. :)
Sorry,

I got home from my birthday trip this weekend to a mailbox full of 3 fabric-filled envelopes. Received fabric from Doris, Darlene R, and Kathy. I love these swaps! Such neat fabrics.

Love Darlene's sayings - and who is Irma Harding? Love Doris' East at Moms, and the appliances. Such neat choices.
