What was the best Christmas Gift you received? Mine was a gingerbread birdhouse from my son and his fiance. I will post a picture when I have time. What was yours?

Fruit from my dad's orange and grapefruit trees (in FL) which he sends to me every winter - a tradition he carried on after my grandmothers passed away. It was something my maternal grandmother started, then my paternal grandmother picked up after Grandmom died, then my dad carried on after Grandma D. died. It is my all time most favorite gift at Xmas.

I just got money this year; my mom had surgery and couldn't shop, and our kids always pool their money. The fact that they work hard and sacrifice for us touches me. But this year, I spent my money on things for the house...glass breadpan, glass bowls, all cotton tea towels, yarn to knit, valentine stuff...and I was so excited. So, even though I bought my own things, they are very special to me. They represent, to me, that I am trying to live more simply, a life more like the one each of you describes, one closer and friendlier to our environment.

Not to be sappy, but my best gift was when my husband said that he thought that this was the best Christmas ever. We didn't do anything special, in fact, he took time off work to be with us and to finish the horse fence. I think what made it the best was being together as a family, the kids were great with each other, I didn't get stressed, the weather was warmer than usual, so we went for walks. Really, I'd have to say that there was a lot of peace in our home this year, and we really tried to keep the focus on the real meaning of Christmas.

A hand knit scarf from Missy and my youngest Stephanie gave me her MP3 player. She got an iPod and she knew that I've been wanting a player to listen to podcast. She was going to give it to a friend and at the last minute wrapped it up for mom.

My daughter made me an exquisite sweater in (I think) baby alpaca that she'd been working on since August. It's my favorite color and flawlessly made, but it's too small for my fat body!!! I felt terrible! I also got a Harry and David's fruit basket from my dad. He's not much one for Christmas, and hasn't sent gifts for years. I didn't realize how much that bothered me until the knot in my stomach loosened when I saw the tag with his name on it. My father hasn't much participated in my life, and it's been a source of pain for me.

I think maybe the sweater was the best. She does such beautiful work, and each stitch had love and care in it. But it's hard to choose, as you can see....

This might sound silly, but my favorite gift is a pair of Brown Dansko clogs from my husband. Our German Shepherd, Rose, ate my clogs a few months ago, and I wear a size 4.5 so it's a real struggle to find shoes! I was just heartbroken because many of the retailers I used to be able to get shoes from have stopped carrying size 5 (because that's as small as they go), and I would never pay more than $40 for my shoes. Anyway, he searched high and low for shoes for me--and found the best pair I could ask for. They're perfect and they are entirely too comfortable. It was so thoughtful, and it showed me that when I think he doesn't notice, he does. While he was on a winning streak, he went to Nine West and got me a beautiful sleek pair of high heeled black boots (Sz. 5)! Probably more for him than me, but I do love them :)
All around though, this year, gifts from everyone (except his side of the family) were very thoughtful and geared towards us personally. My mother bought me a HUGE dark brown Longaberger basket for the farmers market. She said she just thought of me at the market when she saw it.

Just think of all of the roads there are...all of the things I haven't seen....yet.

Mine was a letter from my childhood. My parents found the letter deep in their basement. They wrapped it and put it under the tree. It was so sweet. It was to me, written by my Mom while I was away at summer camp one week during childhood. It represents the secure, happy childhood I had. Nice gift.

Rebekah, I wish so much I could have a gift like that. My mother passed away ten years ago this spring, but she gave me so much unconditional love. I'm sure you'll smile every time you see it.

And Jonni, you have little bitty feet!

This year I finally got my Canon Digital Camera! Yahoo! Have been waiting for that one for awhile. I was so excited to get it & have been using it a lot since. I just have to figure out putting the pics on the computer. He knows how, just haven't had time to learn yet.

My hubby had me fooled... I though it was going to be a Kitchen Aid mixer...maybe next year I'll get that one! :)

Adorable birdhouse!! My best Christmas gift this year was spending time with my family. It started early, at Thanksgiving, when all of my brothers and sisters and their families were here, and continued to Christmas when we took our kids to Disney World and the beach for 5 days. No gift they could have given me would have meant more than that. I am at the point in my life when I don't really need "things". Spending time with someone and having fun together is much more important to me right now.
Am I getting old? :)

My best Christmas present was definitly the family that I acquired this year. The loved and accepted me into their arms. I got 3 grown daughters, 2 grandsons, grandaughter on the way, parents and a wonderful hubby to boot. I am blessed.

The gift that I received from DH was priceless....since we have been building and such...

He bought me a tool belt, and a custom hammer...I have such tiny hands..he ordered one specifically to meet my needs. He filled my tool belt with tape measure and utility knife as well. It was very sweet. Some of the females in my new family that dont share our farm dreams, gave me that look of.....pity, maybe, ...but I was in awe that he gave it so much thought. He knows that I am going to be out there with inferior tools so he made it so I am comfortable. I've never had anyone give consideration to making my life easier.
