I read about a person who took a 5 gallon bucket and drilled some holes in it. He put manure, kitchen waste and his lawn clippings in it. He dug a hole in his garden about 6-8 in deep and put the bucket in it. The rain would fill the bucket and leach into the garden. I would like to do this. at the end of the growing season, what ever is in the buckets would be tilled into the soil. Any thoughts?

I don't think it's cheating. The water in the bucket will brew a compost tea and leach all those good nutrients into the soil. It's a much quicker application than tending a compost pile, especially if you are gardening in a smaller space. I say DO IT and let us know how it goes

I would cover the bucket when it's not raining, as the scraps will attract possums, raccoons, and other unwanted animals.
