Post a picture of your final washcloth!!! I'm sure it will be great! I am currently working on a crochet blanket/dragon costume for my youngest and the edges are annoying me!! So even someone who crochets a lot struggles with them! I am ready to go back to rounds!!
CJ-I am planning to create a crochet tutorial on youtube soon, I'd love to know what you find tough about it so maybe I can address that if you care to contribute (there is actually a survey on my blog to see what people would like from a tutorial) if you are interested in trying again anyway! :)
I need to see which badge I'm going to focus on next....tomorrow is "badge day" in my house when the girls and I focus on working on MJF and AHG badges so we will be making some plans then.

Oh dear, CJ. You make me laugh! I say that you give it at least one more try before throwing it aside completely. Good catch on the badge sizes.

Ok Sabrina! I'll work on it this weekend. It makes me feel better to hear that. Sometimes I can be such a perfectionist.

I played around last night and figured out how to put an edge on my dishcloth. It makes it look so much better. No more wavy edges.

My daughter Leslie has really been going to town on her badges. Glad to have gotten her involved! Still working on my knitting project. I think as difficult as it is and as long as it is going to take me, I am going to use it to apply for my Expert level and do something else for Intermediate.

I read all of MaryJane's postings of Merit Badge recipients. Congratulations to all of you who earned badges.
Just found out this week that my town is recycling - started in Jan - and one of the drop-offs is a couple of miles from me. So now I am recycling and will work on that badge too.

I'm going for my intermediate Collect IT! pretty soon . . . my angel collection is pretty well established and I DO add to it when I find one I really fancy!
My intermediate UFO has to wait until I can work on a project, (which I have identified) with my daughter/best friend. I am also happy to have identified my expert level badge, a project that's been waiting about four years to be finished!

Thank you Teresa and Sabrina. I am glad you informed me and gave me the idea, Sabrina. I really like the shell look but need something bigger. I am thinking of trying the shell edge on a blanket.
Sara, I really like the recycling badge. I go out of my way to recycle as much as I can.
Denise, I’m sorry to hear that your project has been difficult but at least you can use it for your advanced project. What are you thinking of making for your intermediate badge now?

Hey y'all. I just submitted my application for beginner's Going Green today and I'm just about finished with beginner's Green Energy - I had no idea how little I really knew about where our electricity came from! Sure did learn a lot!

This is what I've learned about how energy is generated in my part of Georgia.
I contacted our local power company, Diverse Electric, in LaGrange, Georgia. They are an electric cooperative that buys their power from Georgia Power. Georgia Power generates electricity through biomass, hydropower, natural gas, solar energy, coal, landfill gas, nuclear energy and wind energy.
Biomass energy is created by burning low-grade wood waste like woodchips, wood pellets, tree limbs, agricultural crops, crop residues and farm animal wastes to generate steam, which is used to generate electricity. Georgia Power has 280+ megawatts of power purchase agreements with various biomass proxy qualified facilities.
Hydropower is flowing water that creates electricity by flowing through dams. It generates less pollution than fuel-burning power generation methods. It's a renewable source of energy and creates public recreational areas and new wildlife habitats. There are nineteen hydroelectric plants/dams in Georgia - six of those are on the Chattahoochee River which is the border between Georgia and Alabama, near where I live in Columbus.
Natural gas is removed from wells drilled into the ground. It is treated to remove impurities then piped to power plants. The power plants create electricity from natural gas in a boiler to produce steam; the steam is then used in a steam turbine to generate electricity. There is one natural gas power plant in Georgia, up in the mountains, and one pipeline that moves the natural gas nineteen miles to the power plant.
Solar energy is collected through electric power or thermal energy. Solar electric power is collected by photovoltaic cells on a roof or location with maximum sun exposure. There's a field of collectors in Richland, Georgia, which is on our way to visit our oldest son in Albany. Solar thermal energy is collected the same way as solar electric power, but stored in a storage system and used to heat homes by circulating heated water through the building using pumps. Georgia is creating initiatives and programs to get more people to use solar energy.
Coal is burned to heat water and create steam, which generates power and moves turbines to create electricity. Coal is not native to Georgia and is extracted in other states and transported to Georgia.
Landfill gas is a type of biomass energy categorized as waste energy. When organic materials decompose, the process generates methane gas. To produce power, gas wells slowly draw methane from the landfills and pipe it to a facility where it's burned to turn engines or turbines to create electricity. Superior Landfill in Savannah harvests methane for energy use.
Nuclear power plants use heat and steam to generate power. Nuclear energy is created from the splitting of uranium atoms in a process called fission. Fission releases energy that can by use to make steam and the steam is used to power a turbine to generate electricity. Georgia Power has two nuclear facilities, one of which is currently being expanded.
Wind power is when the wind turns the turbines to generate electricity. There are currently no wind farms in Georgia, although Georgia Power and Georgia Technical Institute are studying the idea of using wind power collected about five miles off the coast of Tybee Island. Georgia Power purchased wind energy from wind farms in southwest Oklahoma for the first time this year.

Jennifer, I can’t believe how many energy sources Georgia has and about half of them I have never heard of. A couple of years ago I was able to learn and see how the hydropower works and it’s quite fascinating. It sounds like you were able to learn a lot about your energy sources in Georgia. Hopefully you can finish your Beginner Level Green Energy Badge soon.
